The continuing success of this year’s Kentucky Derby winner
Big Brown has put Minardi, who stands at Palmaday Stud, at Beaudesert, under the spotlight.
For like Big Brown, Minardi is by the Danzig horse Boundary, who has achieved an exceptional winners-to-runners ratio of more than 70 per cent.
A 10-year-old Minardi was an outstanding performer in his own right with wins in the Middle Park
Stakes-Gr.1, at Newmarket, and Phoenix Stakes-Gr.1, at Leopardstown, which led to him being acclaimed as European Champion Two-Year-Old in 2000.
Added to that Minardi is from the Mr Prospector mare Yarn, who is also the dam of Gr.2
winner and successful sire Tale of the Cat as well as Myth, whose progeny features World Champion Two-Year-Old and
sire Johannesburg.

Kiko's Return recorded his sixth win in a row
on Sunday finishing six-lengths ahead of the other 15 runners to take out Malaysia's
Listed Perak Derby (2400m).
Underlining the strength of the win was the
fact it was the four-year-old gelding's first start in open company. Ridden
by Saimee Jumaat in the prestigious event
for his trainer Johnny Lim who also prepared the third placegetter Gold Arrow.
Breezing up over the 200m at the 2005 Ready to
Run Sale in New Zealand in 11.13, Kiko's Return caught the eye of Wilming Yeo who purchased the two-year-old from the Java Lodge draft for $20,000.
Kiko's Return is from Joe's Girl, an unraced half-sister to Listed ARC Soliloquy Stakes winner
Leigh Filou (Sky Filou), who has also produced the stakes-winning Rijeka
(Sound Reason). He has now had ten starts for six wins and two second placings for prizemoney of
more than AU$180,000.
