ARMIDALE Stud in Tasmania has secured the MRC Autumn Classic-Gr.2 winner and VRC Australian Guineas-Gr.1 runner-up Alpine Eagle (High Chaparral (IRE)-Zephyria (NZ) by Zabeel) who was described by his trainer Tony McEvoy as “without doubt one of the best horses I have ever trained”.  Bred on the same cross as Gr.1 star Dundeel (now at Arrowfield), he won four of his 12 starts, one at two by 4.5 lengths on debut, from 1100m-1800m, was twice second and once third.

He showed an amazing finishing burst to win the Autumn Classic and was narrowly beaten by Wandjina in the Guineas. By English Derby winner and outstanding sire High Chaparral, whose 90SW also include So You Think, Shoot Out, Toronado and Monaco Consul, Alpine Eagle is from a winning Zabeel mare whose three named foals, all winners, include Listed winner Every Faith (Not a Single Doubt), while his imported second dam, Warning Express, a dual winner in Sydney, is by successful sire warning from Ivoronica by Tagowice. He carries the three-quarter brothers Sadler’s Wells and Nureyev 2x4.
