Reigning Moonee Valley horse of the year
Kaphero extended his winning winter streak by dominating the feature event on the card the
Group 3 Ian McEwen Stakes (1000m) with a fantastic front-running effort.
Trained by Leon Corstens at Kilmore the five-year-old son of Danzero went into the weight-for-age feature with a four race winning streak, the last three of them at the Valley where he has led throughout with big weights.
Lining up with regular rider Vlad Duric in the saddle Kaphero began brilliantly from his inside gate to lead comfortably. Lucky Secret (Rubiton - Won't Tell by Rory's Jester) settled just ahead of Here De Angels, with Spectacular Saint trapped four wide. Lucky Secret started to close on
Kaphero as they cornered, however, Duric gave the entire a bit of rein and he powered away again at the top of the straight. He easily held off Morgan Dollar (Planchet - Sapphire Flash by O'Reilly), who ran on well over the final stages near the rail for second two and three-quarter lengths back.
Kaphero, had been competing in lower grade races but carrying 60 and 61 kilos and on Saturday although he rose in class, the weight-for-age scale demanded he only carry 58.5kilos, and he took the step up in fantastic fashion.
Duric had a good run in front and Kaphero had the gears to control the race from the start and change gears again off the turn. While the runner-up Morgan Dollar was able to settle near the speed as did third placegetter Lucky Secret, who had been resuming from a long spell.
Orange County ran on into fourth but the backmarkers never got into the race.
“He shot out of the gates and my biggest worry was that they would pressure him,”
Duric told TVN's Bruce Clark.
“But they left us alone so I got rolling 600m out to get them off the bridle. He wasn't totally comfortable in the ground but scooted away.”
Corstens said the win was his most dominant of his recent efforts and he told Radio Sport 927 on Sunday morning that he would tackle the Group 1 Manikato Stakes at the same track in three weeks time over 1200m.
He has now had eight starts at Moonee Valley for six wins and a second.
Kaphero is out of the Group I winning Centaine mare Kapchat. Along with the STC Winfield Classic,
Kapchat, won the Group 2 MVRC Laurent Perrier Stakes as well as being the runner-up in the
Group I MRC Thousand Guineas and the Group 2 events the VRC Edward Manifold and AJC Surround Stakes.
Kapchat has been a fabulous producer, as well as being the dam of Kaphero she has produced
PRINCESA (by Danehill), a winner of five races including the Listed ATA-Bob Hoysted Hcp and VRC Straight Six.
Wasimah (by Danehill), a winner of four races and stakes placegetter as is her full-brother Keeneland, a winner of eight races and Hidden Energy (by Dehere), the winner of two metropolitan events.
Kapchat is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to the stakes winning JAVA MAGIC and half-sister to the stakes winner
NOBLE HERO. She descends from a family that's produced New Zealand's last seasons leading sire,
O'Reilly.
Kaphero was purchased out of the 2005 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale by Lakeview Resources Pty Limited for $340,000. He has since repaid his owners in full with earnings of more than $700,000 and is by Danehill's Golden Slipper hero,
Danzero, who stands at Arrowfield Stud this spring for a fee of $27,500.00 (inc gst)

Danzero's son Hoystar showed his talent as a juvenile when he was under the care of John Hawkes. Hawkes resigned his position as head trainer for the Woodlands Stud operation and the job of bringing out Hoystar's talent was left to Peter Snowden. In between changing of trainers the brown colt became a gelding and what a difference that operation has made to
Hoystar - the racehorse.
Returning to racing in the New Year under Snowden's care,
Hoystar won a ratings based event over 1100 at Randwick, three weeks later he stepped up to open company event at the venue and finished a solid third. Two weeks later at the same venue again, Hoystar won the
Group 3 Frederick Clissold Stakes (1200m), March 1st. Another solid performance in the
Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1200m), Hoystar looked well placed on the minimum weight in the
Group 3 Nivea Visage Stakes (1200m) at Canterbury.
Having his last run for Snowden, Hoystar is due to be transferred to Chris Waller after the sale of Woodlands Stud to Darley, Hoystar got agitated in the barriers and he jumped up instead of out when they flew open in the Group 3 sprint.
Ridden by Dan Nikolic, Hoystar for the first time in his life settled although it was at the rear of the field, as Typhoon Zed raced forward to set a very fast tempo. With the horses going up to join Typhoon Zed the race was run at break neck speed, allowing Nikolic to track into the race. Once the on speed horses began to feel the pinch and with plenty of space in front of him Nikolic asked Hoystar to sprint. The four-year-old quickly gunned down his rivals to grab his second stakes win by a long head over
Strong Choice (Redoute's Choice - Princess Shoma by Last Tycoon), giving Arrowfield Stud the quinella.
Master Magic (Commands - Kinda Magic by Sackford) did best of the rest for third another 2-3/4 lengths away.
So strong was the speed of the race Hoystar set a new course record stopping the clock at 1:09.3.
Nikolic told TVN's Richard Callendar "they went very hard in the race and he got a nice run...and although it was a mistake to miss the jump it might give Chris Waller an idea how the horse should be ridden"
"He (Hoystar) is a very strong horse...one of the strongest I've ridden and normally he jumps well and you just have to go with him otherwise he'll pull and bring himself un-done. What's he done against this class of horse was massive." Nikolic concluded.
Hoystar is out of the Centaine mare Professionelle and in winning his second Group 3 event he underlined her worth as she is the dam of Sportsman (by Supremo), winner of 10 events and the Group 2 Expressway, Peter Pan and Shannon Stakes, Prisoner of Love (by Canny Lad), winner of three races including the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes and King of Prussia (by Anabaa) winner of the Listed Drumstick Gold Stakes.
With the William Inglis Easter yearling select sale to get underway in two weeks time no doubt the vendors of the
19 yearlings by Danzero will be smiling. The sale runs from April 20 - 24th with the classic session commencing a few days later (April 27 - 29) where Danzero will have another six yearlings on offer.
March 2nd, 2008
Last weekend it was Arrowfield stallion Hussonet in the lime light, this week it was his stable mate
Danzero when his group one winning son Niconero claimed his second victory at the elite level in the
Group I Futurity Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
Trained at Flemington by David Hayes, and ridden by the states leading jockey Craig Williams who had to shake off the disappointment of losing the ride on Miss Finland to ride a first class race and relegate her to third as he sent
Niconero to the line to score an emphatic victory. With nice speed in the race early with Cinque Cento and Publishing both looking for the role as pace maker, Williams was able to settle Niconero at the tail of the field in the 1600m
feature. As Publishing took up the role of pace maker at the 1200m Williams had the six-year-old son of
Danzero travelling kindly beside Miss Finland still at the rear. Waiting until the half-way mark before he made his move Williams was able to put
Niconero into the race approaching the turn. Once they had straightened up and balanced
up out in the middle of the track Niconero lengthened out to score a convincing win from
Cargo Cult (Spectrum - Cult Figure by Ahonoora) by two lengths.
Race favourite Miss Finland (Redoute's Choice - Forest Pearl by Woodman) finished the race off well to be another length away in third.
Williams told TVN's Bruce Clark, "He's (Niconero) has never raced better, he just killed them."
Williams also revealed to Clark that Hayes had given him a pep talk earlier in the week where they discussed a few things.
"I've got a sore ear and chin," he quipped.
Then when Clark asked Williams about Miss Finland, "I still love her," was his reply.
Niconero's previous victory at the highest level was the 2006 Fruit 'n' Veg Stakes (1800m) at Ascot in Western Australia, but he had been placed at Group One level many times including his last start in the Group I CF Orr Stakes when he was baulked at a vital stage.
"I'm just so pleased for this horse. To win was just fantastic and it was quite decisive in the end,"
Hayes told Clark.
"He's flying at the moment. He's clashed with Barely A Moment and Miss Finland - all the stable's great horses - and he might be coming of age now."
Hayes then said that he would have a 'long lunch' with long time stable clients Peter Devitt and Les Gordon to discuss what's next on the agenda for
Niconero. The Futurity Stakes was the first leg of the Asian Mile Challenge, and they have many options to consider including contesting one of the last legs of the challenge to try and pick up valuable prize and bonus money in either Dubai, Japan or Hong Kong.
Niconero's dam Nicola Lass (by Scenic) was also a handy racemare winning seven races with a
group three second placing in the Tristrarc Stakes to her credit at the same track. Along with
Niconero she has produced the stakes placed Recooperate (by General Nediym), a winner of two races, and the Desert King filly,
Holly Go Lightly runner-up in the Listed Hill Smith Stakes in South Australia.
But the sun shone on Danzero and less than twenty minutes later the son of
Danehill made it a stakes double when Hoystar (ex Professionelle by Centaine) showed plenty of courage to score the biggest win of his career in the Group 3 Cargo Bar Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.
Hoystar was up in grade in the stakes event and to offset that he was down in weight and with Dan Nikolic in the saddle the four year-old stepped up to deliver his fourth win at his eighth career start. In doing so he gave his trainer Peter Snowden his fifth winner on the Randwick card, following wins of El Cambio (Commands), Musket (Redoute’s Choice), Forensics (Flying Spur) and Portillo (Red Ransom) for his major backers Mr and Mrs Ingham.
Snowden gave credit to the Woodlands Stud former trainer John Hawkes saying "I had a good teacher."
Hoystar is out of the Centaine mare Professionelle and in winning the Group 3 event he became her
third stakes winner having already produced Sportsman (by Supremo), winner of 10 events and the
Group 2 Expressway, Peter Pan and Shannon Stakes, Prisoner of Love (by Canny Lad), winner of three races including the
Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes and King of Prussia (by Anabaa) winner of the Listed Drumstick Gold Stakes.
With the William Inglis Premier sale due to start in Melbourne today these results are great timing for the vendors of the 24 yearlings by
Danzero that are catalogued for sale at the Oaklands Junction complex.

On Saturday it was Moonee Valley's turn to shine, featuring Australasia's
weight-for-age championship the WS Cox Plate with a strong under card Arrowfield
stallion Danzero drew first blood on the day when Kaphero claimed the Carlton
Draught Flying Handicap (1000m).
Ridden by Damien Oliver, Kaaphero was able to settle behind Centopia who went
through on the fence ahead of Monahan Tweed and Spectacular Saint to take the
field along at an even tempo. Spectacular Saint took over on the home turn
but Kaphero, who had enjoyed a perfect run, was able to angle into the clear and
prove too strong in the run to the line to score by 1-3/4 lengths over
Spectacular Saint (My Halo - Klaudia by Spectacular Love) with City of Ruins (Tribu
- True Solo by Is It True) running on well for third another two lengths away.
Kaphero (ex Kapchat by Centaine) has a bit of a reputation for being a hard
puller settled very well for Oliver on Saturday as his trainer Leon Corstens had
applied a nose band to his bridle.

Melbourne two-year-old Masked Assassin beat the best juveniles Brisbane could assemble
to grab the Group Two $252,000 Schweppes Sires’ Produce Stakes Plate (1400m) at Eagle Farm
on Saturday.
A last start winner of the listed Gibson Carmichael Stakes at Sandown, Masked Assassin was sent out as one of the better chances in taking the first leg of what connections are hoping will be a feature race Brisbane double.
The son of Danzero is trained from Caulfield by former Queensland horseman Peter Moody and in a driving finish he pulled out plenty to hold off the challenge from
New Zealand visitor Diamond Deck (Octagonal - Miss Trump by Last Tycoon).
Moody was overjoyed at winning the race, but regretted the recent decision to downgrade the race’s Group status from
Group One to Group Two.
“They took the Group One (status) off me,” Moody commented with a laugh.
Masked Assassin was purchased by Moody for just $70,000 from last year’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale, down the road at the Gold Coast.
In the short time since he’s already earned his jubilant connections $261,200 from just six starts.
“We’ll now head to the (Group One) TJ Smith – it’s the race we brought him up for,” Moody pointed out. “Provided he comes through this well we’ll run on Monday week.”
Masked Assassin in the last foal for the top producing and former stakes winning Claudius mare Duk Duk.
“He is the last foal from Duk Duk,” Canning Downs’ Joy Mackay confirmed. “She almost died foaling him down, but thankfully we’ve still got her in the paddock at home as a nanny.”
“She (Duk Duk) actually stepped on my foot yesterday,” she said while revealing a badly bruised foot.
As well as Masked Assassin, Duk Duk, herself a multiple stakes winner, has thrown the Sydney stakes winner Royal Mask – who was also trained by Moody.
Mackay and fellow Canning Downs owner John Barnes were so taken with the colt as a yearling they sought out Moody to keep a small share after he purchased the youngster at the Gold Coast.
“We really took a shine to him and we’d had plenty of luck with Peter, so we thought we better go back in for a
share,” she confirmed.
The youngsters other part owners include Moody’s wife Sarah.

It was stakes winner number 27
for Danzero when 2YO colt Masked Assassin won the Listed
Gibson-Carmichael Stakes over 1600m at Sandown Lakeside on
Saturday.
At his previous start, Masked Assassin had
finished second to Hussonet’s extra smart son Emjay Hussey in the $100,000
Blue Sapphire Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield.
Stepping up from 1200m to a mile, Masked
Assassin drew clear from Down Under Boy at the 200m mark with the fast closing
Barachetta unable to close the gap; the official winning margin was one and a
half lengths by a short neck on a rain affected track. The
two year brown colt – just one of 39 foals born to his sire
in 2004 - has proven a consistent performer for trainer Peter Moody. In just
five starts Masked Assassin has secured two wins and three seconds and more than
$100,000 in prizemoney.
Bred by Joy Mackay’s and John Barnes’
Canning Downs Stud, Masked Assassin is the second stakeswinner out of Duk Duk, a
daughter of the Ribot line stallion Claudius. Offered at the 2006 Magic Million
Yearling Sale, Marked Assassin was knocked down to trainer Peter Moody for
$70,000.
Masked Assassin is the fifth stakeswinner for Danzero
this season in Australia joining Group 1 winners Dance Hero
(VRC Salinger Stakes) and Niconero (WATC Fruit ‘N’ Veg Stakes) as well as Group
3 winners Permaiscuous (VRC Carbine Club Stakes) and Danzippo (NJC
Newcastle Newmarket Handicap).
Danzero stands at Arrowfield Stud and his fee
has been listed at $27,500 incl GST this spring.

At Rosehill on Saturday, Danzero's latest star Hoystar
blasted the class record with an exhilarating victory in the Escape To The Races Hcp
(1100m).
Trained by John Hawkes the three-year-old is a half-brother to 2004 Expressway Stakes winner Sportsman and he proved too strong for his rivals at his first start since October.
Sent out as race favourite he settled in second place behind Matilda Princess before
his rider Darren Beadman took him the lead at the 200 metres and he quickly put the result beyond doubt.
Smashing (Hurricane Sky - Macedon Princess by Royal Academy) held on gamely for
second 1-1/2 lengths away. While the early leader Matilda Princess
(Snippets - Princess Matilda by Success Express) finished 2-1/4 lengths away in third.
The win was Hoystar's second after he made a spectacular debut at Canterbury last September when he
killed his opposition by more than five lengths. Given a spell after being beaten as odds-on favourite by Mimidae over 1200 metres at
Rosehill. He had barrier trialled well at Hawkesbury, Monday 29th, in preparation for
his return on Saturday.
November 5th, 2006
VRC Derby Day is regarded as Australia's greatest racing
day it features a
card of black type races with five of them at the highest level and Arrowfield
Stud's Danzero held centre stage.
The Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes, was
Danzero's first triumph when Permaiscuous beat the colts by leading all
the way. Owned by a group of 43 females and one token male.
Ridden a well judged race by Damien Oliver, whose wife Trish is one of the owners,
Permaiscuous (ex Permai by Rory's Jester), had plenty to spare at the post, winning by 1¼ lengths from the John Hawkes trained Patriotism
(Commands - Loyal Lyric by Sovereign Red), with Antidotes (Golden Snake -
Goldberg by Geiger Counter) battling on well for third, a long head away.
Permasicuous,
became the first filly to win the race in eight years and she ran right up to her excellent form when narrowly beaten by stablemate Miss Finland in the
Group 1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield last month.
For trainer David Hayes, the Group 3 win was the best way for him to start Cup week.
"That was a really good win and a beautifully judged ride by Ollie and its kicked off the carnival just how we want", said Hayes.
Hayes is particularly taken by Permaiscuous bold front running style, likening her to Vo Rogue, a champion of the 1980's which also liked to lead.
"I hope she's as good", said Hayes, who intends to race her on during the rest of the Spring.
"She's a tough filly and we'll probably head for the Sandown Guineas now", he said.
Hayes, who has grown accustomed to being smothered in lipstick and kisses after every one of Permaiscuous six wins, was steeling himself for a similar ordeal.
"I sat away from them during the race, but I'm shaping up now", he admitted.
Hayes did agree that the excitement generated by the bubbling mass of female owners had its good points.
"It's been very good for racing to see the enthusiasm."
Being a graduate of the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast she is qualified to run in Magic Millions' lucrative series of races and Hayes intends to aim her at the $1 million 3YO Classic at the Gold Coast in January.
"I'll see how she pulls up after the Sandown Guineas", Hayes said.
"We'll probably give her an easy time after that. Its only six weeks until the Magic Millions race and she's a pretty tough filly."
Then a little over five hours later, Danzero's
champion juvenile, Dance Hero, put on a display of pure speed to claim the Group One
Seppelt Salinger Stakes (1200m) at Flemington, and in doing so he sent his stakes earnings soaring to
past $3.8 million.
The champion juvenile of Australasia of his year Dance Hero
is showing no signs of slowing down. And a jubilant Gai Waterhouse points out he's only five.
A $90,000 yearling from the 2003 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast,
Dance Hero, shot to prominence early in his life when he proved a sensation on the track in his initial season.
There's no surprise why top senior rider Chris Munce is such a fan of Dance Hero.
"He deserved a race like that, he's a superstar," Munce said. "I just love him."
"The horse to do what he did as a two-year-old and still be able to come back and win Salingers and races like that - it's a bloody good effort for him."
After winning the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast he trained on to win the Group Three Skyline Stakes before capturing Sydney's elusive juvenile triple crown.
In the Golden Slipper he out lasted stars Charge Forward and Alinghi before beating Wager and Fastnet Rock in the AJC Sires' Produce and Wager and Savabeel in the Champagne.
For a delighted Waterhouse the win rounded out a massive day following earlier wins with
Tuesday Joy in the Group Two Wakeful Stakes and Desert War in the
Group I Mackinnon Stakes.
"He's been a wonderful horse for me," a beaming Waterhouse said.
"I bought him for $90,000 and he was the Australasian Champion Two-Year-Old - he broke every speed record ever set - he's the only horse to win the Magic Millions and the Golden Slipper double, he won the triple crown. What a horse"
"It's so nice to see him win in such devastating fashion," she added.
Dance Hero (ex Gypsy Dancer by Dance Floor), hard up against the outside fence, led from start to finish to beat Shadoways
(Encosta de Lago - Be My Pride by Pride of Place) by a length in an all ladies training finish. The runner-up is trained at Echuca by Gwenda Johnstone.
Miss Andretti (Ihitram - Peggie's Bid by Marooned) was third, another half length back.
October 2nd, 2006
On Sunday at Sandown on the Hillside course,
the David Hayes, trained Permaiscuous scored a lovely win in the opening
race on the card.
Stepping out for the first time at a trip
beyond 1200m, Permaiscuous, ridden by Hayes apprentice Ryan Hinton, took
the Arborea Hcp (1400m) with an all the way effort on Sunday.
Hinton got Permaiscuous to settle a lot better
than she had at her prior outing when she got her head up and over-raced outside the leader when third to Estelle Collection in the Group Three Champagne Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.
Hinton let her roll along out in front on Sunday.
Permaiscuous (ex Permai by Rory's
Jester) gave nothing else a chance, kicking away to beat stablemate Maha Chakri
(Beautiful Crown - Thai Lunch) by 4-1/4 lengths.
Claudia West (Westbridge - Just Stunning) was a long neck away third.
"I may run her in the Thousand Guineas. She's pretty damn good," Hayes said on
TVN.
August 28th, 2006
Danzero's three-year-old daughter Permaiscuous
made a stunning return to racing on Saturday at Moonee Valley to chalk up her
second black-type success in the Listed Crockett Stakes (1000m) for 3YO fillies.
With Industrious, Follow The Till and Aprisa
all going very hard away from the barriers, Causeway Lass found herself in a
nice position near the rails behind them. With Permaiscuous behind her.
Causeway Lass appeared to lose her action
nearing the turn and rounding it and lost valuable ground. Permaiscuous,
who was still behind her out wide was having the last run at the speedsters up
front and finsihed too strongly in the middle of the course to grab victory by a
half-length from Industrious (Zeditave - Sleep Time Girl by Century). Follow the
Till (General Nediym - Primary Vision by Strategic) was a nose away in third.
Permaiscuous (ex Permai by Rory's Jester) was
returning from a 19-week spell and she will derive plenty of benefit from the
outing.
Permaiscuous
was passed-in for $77,500 at the 2005 Magic Millions Premier Sale on the Gold
Coast and she is now raced on lease from David Hayes by a group of 40 women and
a token male. She carries very distinctive colours of black with a pink
ribbon and pink cap. The pink ribbon represents the involvement of the 40
women owners in the National Breast Cancer Foundation and they donate 1per cent
of prizemoney to the charity.
So far the group have raised between $3,000 and
$4,000 and with a bit of luck there will be more to come so the syndicate leader
Tanya Fullarton hopes.
Fullarton works for Sirecam.
The bonnie filly has strung together four wins
from six starts collecting more than $120,000. The Crockett Stakes victory
was her second as Permaiscuous had won the Listed Cinderella Stakes over 1050m at Morphettville
last season.
June 11th, 2006
On a west wintry afternoon at Randwick,
Arrowfield Stud's Danzero had a day out producing a double including the
June Stakes (1100m) victor, Vinneto.
Vinneto was
ridden by the inform, James Innes, was a long neck winner over Zarouk giving
Innes his third winner of the afternoon. Innes ended up riding five
winners from seven rides on the card.
Trained by Guy Walter it was Vionneto's
(ex Vionnet by Prego) second stakes success
and fifth overall from 16-start career and his second win in a row after Walter
produced him off a short freshen up to easily win the feature at Randwick.
Earlier in the day, the Jack Denham trained
Jackass (ex Jolity by Marscay) took out the Bigpond TV Sprint Handicap (1100m)
carrying top weight. Jackass was another to keep his winning strike rate
perfect this preparation.
Jackass had a short-head too spare over Poirot
(Singspiel - Amazing Nile by Our Maizcay) with Rubinda (Rubiton - Clarinda by
Sir Dapper) in third another three-quarters-of-a-length away.
May 29th, 2006
At Moonee Valley on Saturday, Paris Zero
was very strong in the Trailer Body Builder Magazine Handicap (1200m).
Trained by Brian Mayfield-Smith, who decided to
back the four-year-old daughter of Danzero up seven days after going too
hard in the Listed Straight Six Hcp at Flemington when sixth.
On Saturday, Mayfield-Smith elected to engage a
senior rider, Craig Williams, and carrying 57kgs' she settled much better in the
run for him. With the speed on from the jump with Illusionist and Change
of Class going hard in the lead and getting out with a good break coming the
turn the pair looked to have the race between them as they straightened. Paris
Zero, who had been ridden patiently by Williams at the head of the
field.
Riding her along, Paris Zero
raced home to grab Illusionist (Favourite Trick - Mommoot Lady by Century) and
score a length win running away.
Paris Zero (ex Spirit of Paris by Bellotto)
will be placed to advantage by Mayfield-Smith who may give her another chance at
some black type in the near future.
May 14th, 2006
Another interstate metropolitan double for Danzero
on Saturday.
In New South Wales at Randwick, Vinneto
(ex Vionnet by Prego) worked into the race from well back in the
Schweppervesence Handicap (1200m).
Trained by Guy Walter, the four-year-old will now be set for the
Listed June Stakes after he beat Ramornie Handicap hopeful Forestreno
(Shinko Forest - Santreno Lass by Pride of Karioi) by a widening three-quarters-of-a-length.
Walter said, "It was a very good win by Vionneto."
Over in South Australia, Bella's Bro
returned to racing in the Distinctive Homes Handicap (1200m) with a strong win.
Bella's Bro (ex Nobellocove by
Snippets) had not raced in 13 weeks, however, he has a great fresh record and
built on that to chalk up his fourth win in just 14-starts.
Bella's Bro had a length-and-a-quarter on Jaffa
Jonnie (Danzig Connection - Reave Me Not by Southern Appeal) with Pride of
Archway (Archway - Fine Crystal by Persian Bold) another neck away in third.
March 14th, 2006
Permaiscuous looked very promising when
recording third consecutive win in a row in the Listed Cinderella Stakes
at Morphettville on Monday.
Ridden by Craig Williams for her South
Australian based trainer, David Hayes, Permaiscuous
defeated Glory Be (Royal Academy-So Elated by Vain) by a length. Red Pluton (Real Jester-Pluton, by
Zabaleta) was a short-neck away in third.
Permaiscuous was passed-in for $77,500 at the 2005 Magic Millions Premier Sale on the Gold
Coast and is now raced on lease has been to the races four times and has
recorded three wins earning her connections just under $60,000. She is out of
the listed Liz Davenport Classic winner Permai (by Rory's
Jester).
Permai won ten races with earnings of
more than $200,000 she is the dam of five foals and three winners she is also a
half sister to Queen Saga, the dam of the stakes placed Unabated (by
Encosta de Lago), Permaiscuous is her first stakes winner.
Permaiscuous' sire Danzero has
had an impressive start with his latest crop of juveniles recording two stakes
from two individual winners and more than $160,000 in earnings this
season.
January 27th, 2006
The connections of Danzero colt, Kaphero, will wait until after his next start in the Blue Diamond Prelude before deciding whether to pay the $55,000 late entry fee into next month's Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.
Kaphero, ridden by Dan Nikolic at Sandown was a little slow away but after a slap on his shoulder he was up on the speed out wide. As the field cornered,
Kaphero was caught wide, with Nikolic keeping a good hold of his head. Not asking him for his final effort until the 400m
Kaphero opened up a winning break to do best getting home by a short neck from Snort
(Happy Giggle - Piglet's Gold) in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) on the Lakeside course yesterday.
Nikolic, rode Kaphero, who won his only other start at Flemington on Boxing Day, said that the son of Danzero was the best two-year-old he had ridden this season and wants to be on him in the Blue Diamond.
"I haven't ridden one as good as him this season and I would want to keep my hand on him," Nikolic said.
Trained by Lee Freedman who also trained Kaphero's sire Danzero to win the 1994 Golden Slipper he is out of the Group One-winning mare Kapchat. He was purchased at last year's Magic Millions sale at the Gold Coast for
$340,000.
October 31st, 2005
Danzero added further black-type success when
four-year-old gelding Danny Blue claimed victory by a long-neck in a thrilling
three-way photo-finish in the Listed York Stakes (1800m) at Ascot on
Saturday.
Sent out as the short-priced favourite Danny Blue (ex Evian, by Jon George), who
was ridden by Patrick Carbery, for trainer Trevor Andrews defeated dead-heating Chenille Prince
and Sun Konyah.
Danny Blue now has five wins and seven placings from a 19-start career for more
than $180,000 in earnings.
October 24th, 2005
Arrowfield Stud stallion, Danzero added
another stakes winner to his list when his son Niconero gave his rivals a
galloping lesson in the Group 2 Waterford Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley
on Saturday.
Ridden by Craig Williams, who saved many
lengths to stay on the rail as he rounded the home turn Niconero (ex
Nicola Lass by Scenic) accelerated away and gave nothing else a chance as he
charged home to win easily from Cargo Cult and Miss Potential.
Niconero now has seven wins and a single
placing in 14 start career for more than $340,000 in earnings.

Promising four-year-old, Vionneto gave Danzero
his 21st stakes winner when he took out the Listed City
Tattersalls Lightning Stakes on Saturday in good style.
Vionneto (ex Vionnet by Prego) had shown
plenty of promise last campaign and resumed from a autumn break with a luckless
second behind subsequent Cameron Handicap winner, Collate. With another
run under his belt in September behind Mac's Tune Vionneto looked well placed on
the minimum handicap from barrier eight at Randwick.
Prepared for Sandy Tait and his sister Jill
Nivison by Guy Walter, Vionneto defeated Imprisoned (Commands -
Sad by Sovereign Red) by 1-1/4 lengths with another half-length back to Impaler
(Dracula-Catecombe by Papal Power) in third.
In recording his third win from 10 starts, Vionneto,
stopped the clock at 56.99 covering his final section in a quick 33.99,
suggesting that there are plenty more wins in store from this fellow for the
Tait/Nivison/Walter combination.

At Caulfield on Saturday on a heavy track, Danzero's
daughter Pinzero made three successive wins in town in taking out the
Listed Vietnam Veterans Quezette Stakes (1200m).
Pinezero, ridden by Noel Callow, jumped
away from barrier one, with a good even start of the field Callow got Pinzero up
to take the lead, angling away from the rail. Managing to dictate the
early pace and tempo Callow had Pinzero travelling well within herself.
Chetwynd South who suffered from early interference was well back.
Doubting, Stormy Miss and Cayambe were also
well up with the speed. Brockman's Lass, really struggled in the ground
and Chetwynd South although still well back, but started to run on. At the
top of the straight, Pinezero still led and Callow allowed her to hang out
towards the outside rail into the better going, under strong riding Pinezero
(ex Alpine Spirit by Kenmare) held on by a neck from the fast finishing Chetwynd
South (High Yield - Rough Reality by River Rough) with Doubting (Redoute's
Choice - Sovereign Ruby by Sovereign Red) third a further length away.

Danzero's four-year-old son, Niconero
gave his trainer another welcome home present when he took out the Listed
Aurie's Star Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on Sunday.
Niconero (ex Nicola Lass by Scenic) capped a memorable start to the season for Hayes who this weekend saddled up three winners in his first group of Melbourne runners since returning from a decade training in Hong Kong.
Ridden by Craig Williams, who parked Niconero out wide and gradually increased
the tempo, although he was the first to go for the whip, the Danzero four-year-old responded, surging ahead of
classy topweight Valedictum (Umatilla - Wunderschoen by Twig Moss) to score by a half length with Tszyu
(Encosta de Lago - Valentien's Gift by Ifrad) running the race of his life another three-quarters of a length away third.
Niconero was having his first start since finishing third to Roman Arch in the Victoria Hcp (1400m) at Caulfield in March and has won six of his nine starts.
The plain looking galloper, with a big heart,
has a lot of scope to improve and will get his chance at Group One level during the
spring with his targets being set as the Dubai Racing Club Cup (1400m) on
September 17 and the Toorak Hcp (1600), on October 8, both events are at Caulfield.

Trainer John Moloney put Pinezero aside
after she won the Listed Silver Jubilee Stakes at Moonee Valley as a
juvenile believing that the filly would come back better as a
three-year-old.
On Saturday at Caulfield, Moloney's judgement
was spot on as he saddled two runners in the 3YO Fillies event, Pinzero
and Assertive Guest who gave him the quinella in the 1100-metre
Express Class Handicap.
Pinezero (ex Alpine Spirit by Kenmare),
the more fancied of the two, was ridden by Noel Callow got home by a
length-and-a-quarter from Assertive Guest (Commands - Hula Guest
by Prego) with Crevette (Danehill - Twiglet by Twig Moss), another
length-and-a-quarter away in third, at her first start for nearly four months.
Moloney has nominated The Thousand Guineas at
Caulfield, their home track, as the long-term target for the duo.

Danzero's champion juvenile son, Dance Hero
ended his classic year the same way he started his record breaking juvenile
season with an all the way victory in the Group 3 Missile Stakes (1100m)
at Rosehill on Saturday.
Dance Hero (ex Gypsy Dancer by Dance
Floor) jumped away best from barrier three, travelling well on the bridle
covering his first section in a breathtaking 29.65 seconds. Travelling on
the bridle his stride lengthened to come home in a sizzling 33.15seconds for his
final 600m to record the valuable weight-for-age victory over Snippetson
(Snippets - Snowdrift by polish Precedent) by 1-1/2 lengths.
Race favourite, Spark of Life ( Nine Carat -
Sparkling Bounty by Celestial Bounty), never appeared to travel and finished a
disappointing third a further head away.
In recording his ninth
victory off 14-career starts, Dance Hero
will have his next start at Rosehill in the Premier Stakes and then head towards
the Group I Epsom Handicap (1600m).

The versatility of the Danzero breed could hardly have been better
emphasized than it was by his daughter Mrs Gillow at The Curragh on Saturday.
Mrs Gillow became Danzero’s 35th winner in Britain and Ireland when she
claimed a 3200m event by two lengths. While most of Danzero’s British offspring have been successful over
distances up to 2000m, Mrs Gillow, out of the Alzao mare Balladera proved there is no limit to the Golden Slipper-winning sire’s range.
The win comes on top of two nice maiden winners
on that side of the world with Danger Zone (ex Red Tulle by A P Indy)
and Zendaro (ex Countess Maud by Mtoto) and is bound to increase the demand for
Danzero’s offspring who have already proved popular with European buyers who have so far gone as high as
260,000 guineas for one of his fillies.

Danzero continues on his merry way with
another stakes winner, this time across the Tasman in New Zealand when his son Savute
claimed the Group 3 Sunline Stakes at Cambridge last week.
In taking out the Sunline Stakes, Savute,
became Danzero's 20th stakes winner and his sixth this season.
Bred by Gerry Harvey and sold at the 2003 Magic Million Yearling Sale, Savute was purchased by astute New Zealand trainer Nigel Tiley for $60,000. Savute is out of the stakesplaced Marscay mare Wolf
(by Sir Ivor) who in turn is out of Ivory Maid, the dam of four stakes horses including Freckled Face, dam of
Group 3 winner Face Value.
Savute has now started 10 times for 3 wins and 5 minor placings including a close-up 4th in the Great Northern Guineas-G2 on the 5th of March this year. Savute was beaten only a length in the Great Northern Guineas by Magnetism with She’s Justa Tad second and both these horses went on to successful campaigns in Australia – Magnetism won the
Listed AJC Carbine Club Stake at his next start while She’s Justa Tad narrowly missed winning the
Group I AJC Oak when caught in the shadows of the post by Dizelle.
In addition to his outstanding success in Australia,
Danzero is fast establishing himself among the leading sires in Hong Kong
with 14 runners this season yielding $1.7 million in prizemoney.
April 3rd, 2005
The great run of Arrowfield stallions continued
at Moonee Valley on Saturday with his daughter Pinezero claiming her
maiden victory in the Listed Silver Jubilee Stakes (1200m).
Prepared by John Maloney, the rank outsider of
the five-horse field, held on in a photo-finish to beat Brockman's Lass
(Encosta de Lago - Deal Me Out by Final Card) by a half-head with the race favourite
Leveller (Redoute's Choice - Startling Miss by Star Way) a half-length away third.
Pinzero (ex Alpine Spirit by Kenmare) was kicked out of the gates by her
rider Greg Childs to track Leveller, rounding the home turn the leggy brown
filly by Danzero got the upper hand to continue Moloney's winning streak
in recent times. On Easter Monday, Maloney saddled up Run And Jump
to score at Caulfield while Rolling Rock won at Sandown on Wednesday.
Pinezero was a $58,000 Magic Millions yearling in Adelaide and Moloney gave her a chance of testing Leveller on Saturday despite just racing four times for two thirds on provincial tracks.
Leveller dominated betting after an impressive half-length win at her only start in the
Group 3 Bloodhorse Breeders Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on March 12 but
Pinezero finished fourth in the race just 2-1/2 lengths from the winner.
"You couldn't be confident with Leveller in the race but she (Pinezero) ran well the other day and she was meeting Leveller 3.5 kilos better," Moloney said.
"We knew we were fit and experienced and we were hoping we could go close without necessarily beating Leveller."
Pinezero, bred by Swettenham Stud, will now be spelled and brought back for the feature races for fillies in the spring.
"She is a really nice type and I think she could go well in the spring," Moloney said.
"She will run to 1600 metres."
March 6th, 2005
Arrowfield's champion sire Danzero sired
his fifth Group I winner when his daughter Danni Martine scored a
brilliant win in the Group I Coolmore Classic (registered name T A D
Kennedy Stakes) at only her eighth start at Rosehill on Saturday.
Trained by Guy Walter, the four-year-old
daughter of Danzero came from second last on the turn with her rider Darren
Beadman winding his way through a traffic jam at the top of the straight to
claim the coveted prize.
Despite the outside barrier, Beadman allowed Danni
Martine to find her rhythm, coming away from the rail at the 700m he got a
run up into the field, just as he went for a run the gap appeared to close
switching around heels to get clear. Beadman gave the mare her head and
she let down with a storming run to claim Forum Floozie (Danasinga -
Flying Floozie by Pompeii Court) by a length with another Walter runner, Johan's Toy
(Johan Cruyff - Extra Bubbly by Bellotto), three-quarters of a length away third.
"Darren rode her superbly, he got a long way back but that was always the plan from that alley," Walter said.
Danni Martine now heads to the Queen of the Turf Stakes at Rosehill in
two weeks time.
Danzero, didn't have to wait long for
his next winner when his champion juvenile son Dance Hero made it a
race-to-race double to put his last-start defeat behind him with a brilliant all-the-way
victory in the Group 2 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).
Last time out he was a lacklustre third to Outback Prince in the Hobartville Stakes against his own age group with trainer Gai Waterhouse still puzzled over that run.
"I don't really know what happened the other day but this was the real Dance Hero," Waterhouse said.
Dance Hero travelled kindly for Chris Munce on the bridle all the way.
None of his rivals looked like a real threat and he held Falkirk (Tale of
the Cat - Madam Valeta by Palace Music) by a length with Ike's Dream
(King of Kings - Mrs Kahn by Vain) third a short-half-head away.
Dance Hero will now take on the older horses again in the George Ryder Stakes
(1500m) in two weeks time.
February 27th, 2005
Arrowfield Stud is on a huge roll at the moment
collecting a group one double with Undoubtedly in the Blue Diamond Stakes
and Jymcarew in the Canterbury Guineas (1900m) just hours later on
Saturday night at Canterbury.
Ridden by Glen Boss, Jymcarew was last out of the gates and tailed the field to the home turn where he picked up the pace.
Just when Eremein (Timber Country - Marrego by Marscay) was being hailed the winner,
Jymcarew sprinted home hard to pick him up and win by a half neck.
Cheval De Troy (Zabeel - Better Succeed by Success Express) came through the pack for third another three-quarters of a length away after missing the start and being held up for a run.
Jymcarew is owned by a syndicate of friends who belong to the Banjo Club which celebrates the works of Banjo Paterson.
Heading the group is Australian Racing Board chairman Bob Charley and among its members are William Inglis and Son managing director Reg Inglis, Australian Jockey Club chairman Treve Williams and AJC committee member Mick Doyle.
"It's great to race horses with a group of your mates," Charley said.
"We've raced quite a few but this is by far the best."
Jymcarew is named after the character Paterson described as "always ready and always fit" and he lived up to it.
The gelding came into the race off a win in the Gosford Guineas (1600m) while many of his rivals ran in the 1400m Hobartville Stakes.
"I think the 1600 metres was ideal for him and the right stepping stone," his
trainer Bob Thomsen said.
Jymcarew was selected and purchased for the Banjo Club by Sydney bloodstock agent Vin Cox, who bid $50,000 to secure the son of Danzero at the 2003 Classic Yearling Sale.
“Reg asked me to find a ‘nice’ horse for the Banjo Club and I came up with a short list of three,” said Cox, a former Associate Director at Inglis.
“We discovered the first had x-ray issues and the second made too much money, so when Jymcarew came in he was always going to be the one and even though we went slightly over budget he’s certainly been worth the money.”
Jymcarew was offered for sale by Westminster Stud as agent and is the second foal of the Grosvenor mare Aperto (NZ), a metropolitan placed winner of three races up to 2200 metres.
“He was a knockabout type as a yearling, sound and tradesman-like, nothing flashy but the sort of horse who looked like he could be a real professional one day,” added Cox.
Jymcarew has won five races in all for earnings of $414,975 and will now be aimed towards the STC Rosehill Guineas
Gr 1 and AJC Australian Derby Gr 1.
Earlier in the day at Caulfield, Danzero's
good looking daughter Brilliant Jewel (ex A Jewel by Prego), led all the way to
easily win the Glasshouse Cafe Handicap (1100m), to give him an interstate
double.
Ridden by Steve King, Brilliant Jewel
was best away and on the turn she straightened up well clear to race away to win
as she liked by three lengths to hold off the well supported Initial Venture
(Hennessy - Dawn to Dusk by Son of Briartic) with Belle Feline (Tale of
the Cat - Belle Star by Star Way) a half-head away.
February 20th, 2005
Arrowfield Stud’s champion sire DANZERO
continued his recent success by siring a treble of metropolitan winners after
producing two stakes winners a week earlier.
The day started well for Danzero when race
favourite Vionneto (ex Vionnet by Prego) showed his class to clock
a new class record of 1:16-54 when claiming the Fairfield Advance Handicap
(1300m).
Vionneto had
three-quarters-of-a-length on his nearest rival High Priority (Strategic - Kin
by Lorenzaccio).
Five races later, four-year-old mare Danni
Martine, collected valuable black type in the Listed Wiggle
Handicap (1400m).
Danni Martine, settled well in fifth
position on the rail for her rider Glen Boss. Once the field straightened
up for the run home, Boss angled Danni Martine out to the middle of the
course grabbing the lead. She went on to score by a widening 1-3/4 lengths
from Golden Weekend (Nine Carat - Opera Weekend by Paris Opera) with Hec
Of A Party (Hector Protector - Party Dancer by Party Leader) running a bold
race for third a half-neck back.
Twenty minutes later in Victoria at Moonee
Valley, Paris Zero dashed clear of a strong field to take out the
swift signs Handicap (1200m) giving Danzero his treble.
Paris Zero (ex Spirit of Paris by
Bellotto) was the only filly in a field and was able to show off her class to
hold three-year-old geldings Watchyerback (Daggers Drawn - Ballyvaskin by
Indian King) by a half-neck and another 1-1/4 lengths back to Caulfield Guineas
placegetter Under Command (Commands - Shudder by Kenvain) in third.
The run of Danzero's progeny has not gone
un-noticed as his yearlings have sold well so far this year. At the recent William Inglis Melbourne Premier
sale they averaged $77,917.
February 15th, 2005
At Caulfield on Saturday, Niconero continued to
emerge as a genuine Australian Guineas prospect when successful in the
Wellington R C Stakes (1400m).
Aided by a brilliant Nash Rawiller ride, Niconero (ex Nicola Lass by Scenic)
took the event out by a half neck from Astrodame (Flying Spur - Tirumani by Last
Tycoon) with Wildly (Hurricane Sky - Bourbazam Lass by Kendor) a short neck further away,
giving Arrowfield stallion's the trifecta.
Trainer Tony McEvoy said, "We've been wondering what to do with
him."
"But if you look at today's field there are a lot of horses who ran in the Caulfield Guineas in the spring, and he's beaten them.
"So he has to be given his chance in the Australian Guineas."
Although he scored only narrowly, Niconero ran up his fifth win in succession, his only defeat coming at his first start.
Consistency is in the gelding's pedigree, his mother Nicola Lass having won five of her seven starts at Caulfield.
From his inside gate, Rawiller had Niconero poised behind the leaders coming to the turn and sprinted quickly through the pack to hit the front 100m out.
Astrodame ran a strong AJC Oaks trial with her second placing while the Sydney colt Shinzig did well to finish fourth.
The $750,000 Group One Australian Guineas (1600m) is run at Flemington on March 12.
Earlier in the week talented gelding Jymcarew stormed home for a great win in the
Listed Gosford Guineas. The Bob Thomsen prepared son of Danzero appreciated the jump back up to 1600 metres, a trip that has seen him find the winner’s circle on three occasions.
Jymcarew was purchased from the 2003 Classic Yearling Sale for $50,000 by Vin Cox Bloodstock acting on behalf of the Banjo Club Syndicate, whose members include Inglis Managing Director, Reg Inglis.
Jymcarew was offered for sale by Westminster Stud as agent and is the second foal of the Grosvenor mare Aperto, a metropolitan placed winner of three races up to 2200 metres.
He is yet another stakes-winner bred on the highly successful Danehill (USA) / Sir Tristram (IRE) cross, seen to the fore just last week with another new stakes-winner in Lieutenant.
Jymcarew has won four races in all for earnings of $149,500 and will now be aimed towards the STC
G1 Canterbury Guineas.

Former champion two-year-old Dance Hero made a brilliant return to the racetrack
to score a resounding win in the Group II Sovereign Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.
There was plenty of money for his stablemate Star Cat but then it also came for Dance Hero
(ex Gypsy Dancer by Dance Floor) who jumped as second elect.
The race was all over and done with though the moment the field jumped away with Dance Hero
leading comfortably and making sure that it was always going to be chaser that had to do all the work.
"The way he relaxed in front I was confident he was going to be hard to beat," said jockey Chris Munce.
"I wasn't really concentrating too hard on those behind me more on what my bloke was doing.
"Once he got to the front he pricked his ears and relaxed and strolled along really nicely.
"He's a very special horse and I really love him.
"All the owners and Gai Waterhouse believed he would come back and I tell you what, he has!"
Dance Hero's winning margin was a length-and-a-quarter from Eremein (Timber
Country - Marrego by Marscay) with Star Cat (Catbird - Magdalena by Snaadee) a half-length away third.
Dance Hero clocked 1:10.05 for the 1200m and the final
600m in 34.02, with seven wins from 10 starts for $3.2million in prize-money - not bad for a galloper who cost
$90,000 as a yearling at the 2003 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast.
Earlier in the day in South Australia at
Morphettville, three-year-old Wild Hero (ex Wild Bird Dreaming by
Is It True) made a successful debut in the Distinctive Homes Handicap (1050m).

Danzero, has another promising son on
the rise, Niconero is a horse that's destined for better things
with a classy victory in the Soultine Handicap (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Ridden by Damien Oliver, Niconero jumped from
barrier the outside gate in a field of 11, dragging Niconero back to last.
A fair clip was set by the early leader Fraar Noon with Sennet and Caridale
taking forward positions as well.
On the swing for home, many riders went wide,
however Oliver cut the corner gaining many lengths and once Niconero was
balanced angled him to be about four or five horse off the rail.
Niconero (ex Nicola Lass by
Scenic) quickly gathered in Dixiegem (Canny Lad - Peach by Vain) to score
by 2-1/4 lengths with Pappagallo (Encosta de Lago - Lottey by Bellotto) another
2-3/4 lengths away in third.
The victory was Niconero's fourth in
succession, his first in Victoria with the others being recorded in South
Australia from the Tony McEvoy stable.
Gary Fennessy, McEvoy's foreman in Melbourne
said "His mother was a skinny thing and he's the same,"
"But she could go and so does he".
"He'll be better in another 12 months or
so when he builds up a bit, but he's a bag of bones at the moment - but you
don't look at him, you just him", Fennessy added.
December 19th, 2004
An
interstate metropolitan double for Danzero highlighted by two record breaking
performances. At Flemington his sprinting son Don't Tell Tom
claimed the Red Tempo Handicap at Flemington in top class style on Saturday.
Don't
Tell Tom is a massive horse, who walks around the 600kg mark and has
been plagued with aches and pains for most of his career has returned from a
spring break in career best form winning at each of his three starts this
campaign.
On
Saturday he jumped straight into the bridle and clocked 1:02.2 to break a
14-year-old record set by Mr Cube (1:02.3) set in 1990 for the Flemington 1100m
and in doing so he thrashed his rivals.
Don't
Tell Tom (ex Imagine by The Judge) won by 3-1/4 lengths leading all the
way from Gunner Tom (Military Plume - Golden Cafe by Estaminet) with Chong
Tong (Encosta de Lago - Coqutry by Zoffany) a length away third.
His
trainer John Collins has now set his sights on the Group 3 Standish
Handicap (1200m) which is also run at Flemington on New Years day then it's onto
the Group I Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 16.
Earlier
in the day at Randwick, Danzero's son Jymcarew (ex Aperto
by Grosvenor) set a new class record in taking out the Price Waterhouse Coopers
Foundation Plate (1600m) by three-quarters-of-a-length from Saxon
(Danehill - Jeanetta Cochrane by Sadler's Wells) with the same margin back to The
Spit (Mossman - Zephyr Asset by Zephyr Zip).
November 21st, 2004
Talented sprinter Don't Tell Tom
is a brilliant speedster and in the Dual Choice Handicap at Sandown on the
Hillside course he showed his usual speed to score a first class win on
Saturday.
Don't Tell Tom took up the running and the
six-year-old gelding son of Danzero travelled out wide staying away from the
inside as he rounded the turn. Feel The Noise edged closer along the
inside with Bulbasaur and Dunrobin and as they began to struggle at the
300m, Don't Tell Tom was still full of running and went to
the line in good style to account for Dunrobin (Rory's Jester - Prima
Diva by Marscay) by a length with Super Impressive (Zabeel - Pheroz
Fantasy by Tights) getting home well late for third 1-1/4 lengths away.
Don't Tell Tom (ex Imagine by The
Judge) returned from a long spell with a good win at Bendigo against a hand
field and his win on Saturday shows that's racing as well as ever.
September 27th, 2004
A race to race metropolitan double for Danzero at Doomben on Saturday.
Naderoz is rising quickly through his classes for his connections and trainer Alan Bailey winning the
Heineken Handicap, a class six event over 1010m.
At the post Naderoz (ex Willow
Flight by Alquoz) had a length on Bigge Isle (Puissance – Advisable by Regal Advice) with Supreme Riffs (Supremo - Crested Jewel by Crested Wave) a nose away in third.
Underlining his effort Naderoz ran a new class record recording 57.35seconds covering the last 600m section in a very quick 32.91.
The victory was Naderoz’s third from his tenth start.
Forty minutes later It's Not Fair
took out the Lexus Spring Carnival Handicap (1200m).
It's Not Fair (ex Classic Belle
by Bellotto) claimed top weight Garibaldi (Favourite Trick - Spaulding by
Devils Bag) by 1-3/4 lengths with Royal Dreamer (Royal Sceptre - Slumber
Deed by Nadeed) two lengths away in third.
September 13th, 2004
Another interstate double for Danzero on
Saturday.
Niconero took out the opening
race in South Australia at Victoria Park the Collex Handicap (1450m).
In winning his third race from four starts Niconero
(ex Nicola Lass by Scenic) just lasted to score by a half-head over Sirraja
(Devaraja - Logic in Motion by Mikado).
In Queensland at the Gold Coast, Monte
Bianco (ex Ossie Cossie by Mister C) broke his maiden status by a convincing
2-1/4 lengths.
August 30th, 2004
Niconero made it two wins from as
many starts this campaign in the Tapestry Wines Handicap 91200m) at
Morphettville on Saturday.
Although Niconero (ex Nicola Lass
by Scenic) was up in class and against the older more seasoned rivals he showed
that he is above average taking out the Class 3 event by
three-quarters-of-a-length from Prior Knight (Hennessy - My Brightia by
Bellotto).
In the stable of Tony McEvoy, Niconero
may show up in a stakes event in Victoria in the coming months.

Danzero filly Soar, will target the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes at
Newmarket on September 30 after continuing her pillage of Britain’s juvenile black type trophies winning
the Group Two Lowther Stakes at York on August 19.
The exciting filly has now won three from four for owner-breeders Cheveley
Park Stud and trainer James Fanshawe.
Soar, out of stakes-placed Sharpo mare Splice, finished second to boom filly
Damson in the Group Two Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot in mid-June. Fanshawe believes Soar can turn the tables in the Cheveley Stakes.
"Soar has always been a bit special – she had to be for me to have a two-year-old
out so early," Fanshawe said.
Danzero stood two seasons at Cheveley Park Stud in England and with
19 individual winners in the northern hemisphere to date, the Golden Slipper winning sire is certainly
extending his influence to the other side of the equator.
Danzero was Champion Two-Year-Old Sire in Australia for 2003 – 2004,
taking that title by many lengths courtesy of history-making juvenile Dance Hero.
Danzero topped the table with progeny earnings of $A3,545,195 with fellow Arrowfield sires Flying Spur and Redoute’s Choice also among the top 10 sires
of two-year-olds in Australia. Danzero was fourth on the overall sires table with 71 winners and 4 stakes winners.
“Arrowfield is thrilled that Cheveley Park is enjoying success with Danzero’s progeny
such as Soar,” said Arrowfield managing director John Messara.
“You can look at Danzero’s record from any perspective right now, and the results
speak for themselves,” Messara said.
He will cover a high-calibre book with mares including Blue Diamond Preview winner
Sanziro’s dam Will Fly, Group One winner Heart Ruler (NZ) and stakes winning Marscay mare Donna Dior, out of a half-sister to Fitting.
August 15th, 2004
Naderoz gave Arrowfield
Stallions a race-to-race double at Eagle Farm on Saturday. Just Polite
(Dehere) took out the Our Rosalee Handicap (1600m) and then Naderoz
(Danzero) saluted in the Rock Show Handicap (over 1200m).
Ridden by in form jockey Jim Byrne who settled Naderoz
in second placing and content to track the front-running top-weight Qualo
(Sequalo - Miss Bierritz by Bletchingly) all the way until the 250m. It was
then, Byrne asked Naderoz for his effort.
The four-year-old responded well and moved up alongside
Qualo, but the latter wasn’t going to fold without a fight. It took Naderoz
nearly 100m to get the better of Qualo’s and inside the final 100m and
Naderoz (ex Willow Flight by Alquoz) strode away to record a comfortable
1-3/4 length victory.
July 28th, 2004.
The dominance of Danzero’s 2YO progeny is now stretching to Europe where his Northern Hemisphere bred 2YO daughter Soar impressively won the G3 Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot last Saturday.
Starting the even money favourite, Soar bided her time at the back of the field until asked to lengthen by her jockey, Johnny Murtagh, and then strode away to win the event by 1-3/4 lengths from Valentin and Kissing Lights. In so doing, Soar bettered by 2.4 seconds the time set by the colts on the same day. According to her trainer James Fanshawe, Soar will now be aimed towards the
G2 Lowther Stakes at York on August 19th.
Saturday’s win made it two wins from three outings for Soar. At her previous start, Soar had run 2nd in the G2 Queen Mary Stakes at the Royal Ascot meeting to Damson, which is regarded as one of the best fillies in Europe at this time.
Soar’s win in the Princess Margaret represented Danzero’s fifth winner of the week in Europe.
Danzero stood two season in the Northern Hemisphere and Soar, owned by Cheveley Park, is from his second UK crop. Soar is out of the G3 placed stakeswinner Splice, by Sharpo.
”It’s most gratifying to see an Australian bred Golden Slipper winner becoming
a successful sire also in the Northern Hemisphere,” said Arrowfield Managing Director, John Messara.
Danzero is ending the 2003/2004 season on a very high note in Australia as the
champion sire of 2YOs (with all-time record earnings) and also the 4th leading sire
on the General Sires List.

Arrowfield’s DANZERO is having a fantastic season and at Warwick Farm on Saturday his three-year-old son
Winbreaker kept the ball rolling by winning the Sharply Handicap (1600m).
Winbreaker had half-a-length on Pont du Gard (Danehill Dancer – Coverage by Covetous) with the same margin back to
Desert Ransom (Desert Prince – Harem Queen by Al Hareb) in third.
In chalking up his third career victory from six starts Winbreaker (ex Winitski by Kinski) took his earnings past $73,000 for his connections.
June 6th, 2004
Winbreaker showed his true
colours at Rosehill, a senior rider in the saddle Winbreaker, did
the rest scoring a good win in the Frank Dowling Memorial Series (1300m) on
Saturday.
Having his fourth career start, Winbreaker
had proved to be a handful for his young rider Ronnie Stewart last time out at
Rosehill, racing fiercely.
On Saturday with Robinson up Winbreaker jumped away well,
Robinson settled him at the back of the field, and as the field set off for home,
the Danzero youngster went to the outside getting home to score a long-head win from
Sunset Run (End Sweep - Skating by At Talaq). Dane Fever
(Danehill - Campbell Fever by Bluebird) finished three-quarters-of-a-length away
in third.
The win was Winbreaker's (ex
Winitski by Kinski) second from only four starts and took his earnings past
$44,000 for his connections.

Trainer Bill Mitchell took a moment to reflect on what might have been after
Zero Drama scored a long-overdue win in Saturday's Geoff Torney Cup (1514m) at Moonee Valley.
"It would have been interesting if I had run him in the 1400 metre handicap at Warrnambool during the week," said Mitchell who finished one win short of winning a Mercedes-Benz four-wheel drive as the leading trainer at the carnival.
"I should have had him in that race as it was a wet track and down there and he might well have won it.
"It would have been handy."
Zero Drama had run second seven times in 18 starts since his last win at Flemington on May 28 last year but on Saturday broke through aided by a clever frontrunning ride from Dan
Brereton.
Zero Drama (ex Diorama by Zeditave) refused to be denied, fighting back to score by a short half-head from
My Gibreel (El Moxie - Kath's Angel by Adayoun) with Kayano (Our
Poetic Prince - Before Her Time by Karou Star) a short head away third.
Zero Drama was having his 50th race start and has now won seven races and posted 12 seconds and four
thirds and has proven a handy country Cups horse winning the 2003 Kilmore Cup and finishing fourth this year.
April 25th, 2004
Danzero's versatility was on show at Moonee
Valley when his son Spadanza raced on the speed to win the
Just Fruit Handicap (2040m) on Saturday.
Spadanza was able to work across
the field without much trouble to the lead them as they left the straight the
first time and set a strong even tempo. Ridden by Bill Nolan shook Spadanza
up with a couple of cracks with the whip at the 800m peg to get him
racing Charnwood Green (Charnwood Forest - Pine Lodge Girl by
Ideal Planet) who raced upsides him and head Spadanza.
Nolan, knew his charges capabilities and had Spadanza
(ex Sparkplug by Western Symphony) travelling keenly and kicked again inside the
last 100m to score a tough win by a head over Charnwood Green. College
Crest (College Chapel - Pleasure by Nassipour) was
three-quarters-of-a-length away in third.
April 18th, 2004
At Randwick on Saturday, Dance Hero
became only the fifth horse in history to take out the coveted juvenile treble
of the Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill, the AJC Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m)
and the Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.
Dance Hero did it the hardest way with
the last two legs run seven days apart, previously they were two weeks apart, to
join Baguette (1970), Luskin Star (1977), Tierce (1991) and Burst in 1992.
Dance Hero showed, toughness to back up on three consecutive Saturdays
and most of all he showed how much class he has by breaking two race records,
firstly in the Golden Slipper and then the Champagne Stakes.
Trained by Gai Waterhouse who is the first person to produce a juvenile to win
the Magic Millions Classic in January and then to bring them back up again for a clean sweep of the triple crown.
The gelding son of Danzero deserves all of the
accolades.
Dance Hero dominated and led throughout to score by 1-1/4 lengths from stablemate
Wager (Flying Spur - Occasional Gain by Lunchtime) with Savabeel
(Zabeel - Savannah Success by Success) a further 1-1/4 lengths away third.
April 14th, 2004
If Dance Hero can win next Saturday's
Champagne Stakes and the rise in distance to 1600m he will become the first
horse in 12 years to capture the juvenile triple crown after he led throughout to claim the
G1 Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained Danzero gelding snared the first leg of the coveted treble, the $3 million Golden Slipper, last Saturday and added the second leg to his tally with another dominant display.
Burst (1992), Baguette (1970), Luskin Star (1977) and Tierce (1991) are the only other gallopers to achieve the rare feat.
Waterhouse can find no reason Dance Hero won't claim the Champagne Stakes and add his name to the history books, rating him potentially the best she has trained.
Arrowfield Stud stallions and Waterhouse landed the group one quinella, with Wager
(Flying Spur - Occasional Gain) three-quarters of a length away second
with Fastnet Rock (Danehill - Pccadilly Circus) 1-1/4 lengths away in
third.
April 4th, 2004
Danzero's son Dance Hero
displayed speed, strength and stamina when he jumped quickly to take control of
the G1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
In doing so Dance Hero, ridden by Chris
Munce and prepared by Gai Waterhouse recorded the fastest time ever in the history of the
premier juvenile race, becoming the first Magic Millions hero to collect the
coveted event.
Munce, jumped Dance Hero away well from
barrier 2 and he went straight to the led with Flying Firebird (Stravinsky) and Tahni Girl
(Redoute's Choice) just sitting off him. Munce won the race in the first
600m section running 34.33 seconds. Dance Hero hugged the rail with
Munce rating him well to breeze home in a slick 34.27 seconds.
The son of Red Ransom, Charge Forward
(ex Sydney's Dream by Bletchingly) tried hard to pick up Dance Hero to beaten by
a short-neck with the race favourite Alinghi (Encosta de Lago - Oceanfast
by Monde Bleu) three-quarters-of-a-length away in third.
Dance Hero now heads towards the second leg of the Triple Crown -
at Randwick the Sires Produce (1400m) with his final juvenile start in the Champagne
Stakes (1600m).
A $90,000 purchase by Gai Waterhouse, Dance
Hero is by Arrowfield Stud’s 1994 Golden Slipper winner Danzero out
of the Dance Floor (USA) mare Gypsy Dancer. A winner of two races in South
Australia Gypsy Dancer is a daughter of Racy Belle (Straight Strike) a daughter
of the top-class Sir Tristram mare Tristabelle winner of the 1984 SAJC Sires
Produce Stakes. This is the much-acclaimed “Belle” family descending from
Belle Fox, which also produced the 2000 Golden Slipper winner Belle du Jour
(Dehere).
Tristabelle was out of Lady Belle (Taipan 11), a half-sister to Asgard (AJC
Australasian Champion Stakes, WATC Western Australan Derby), Honey Belle
(Wellington Guineas) and to the Adelaide Guineas winners Chiming and Son of
Cyrus. Lady Belle is a half sister to Belle Rosa (Instinct) the fourth dam of
Belle Du Jour, and Belle Time (Summertime) the fifth dam of G1 Doncaster
Handicap winner Grand Armee (Hennessy) who finished a fighting second to the
champion Lonhro (Octagonal - Shadea) in the Group 1 George Ryder
Stakes some 50 minutes earlier on the day.
Dance Hero is the first horse bred by Tony Akkari’s Saint Stefan
Bloodstock. A Lebanese immigrant who runs a civil engineering business in
Sydney, Akkari purchased Gypsy Dancer after being sent a tape by bloodstock
agent Danny Power. A self proclaimed fan of Danzero Akkari sent Gypsy
Dancer to Arrowfield Stud for her first season. The result of that mating is Dance
Hero. Surely no breeder has had a more brilliantly successful entry into a
business that is renowned more for its disappointments and heartbreaks.
Akkari keeps his two-mare band at Kerrie Tibbey’s Goodwood Park who consigned Dance
Hero to the 2003 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
Gypsy Dancer has a yearling filly by Fuji Kiseki and a weanling full sister to
the Golden Slipper hero and Akkari intends to keep both. Danzero served
Gypsy Dancer again last season.
Most stallions that have spent some time at stud drift in and out of fashion. Danzero
fits into that category. He began his stud career at Chatswood Stud in Victoria
in 1995 before moving to Arrowfield Stud the following year when Flying Spur,
which carried the Arrowfield colours to victory in the Golden Slipper the year
after Danzero, took his place on the Chatswood roster. It was in the days
before stud farms realized that breeders had an insatiable appetite for sons of
Danehill, which Arrowfield has since capitalized on brilliantly by now
standing three of the most commercial sons of the breed shaping son of Danzig.
Danehill has sired five Slipper winners and Danzero becomes his first son
to sire a Slipper winner.
Dance Hero is the third group one winner for Danzero following AJC
Australian Derby (G1), Spring Champion Stakes (G1) and STC Canterbury Guineas
(G1) hero Fairway and AJC Flight Stakes (G1) winner Danglissa.
Danzero has seven yearlings on offer at the Sydney Australian Easter
yearling sale which begins April 13th.
March 28th, 2004
Daneforce appreciated the class
drop to claim an all-the-way victory in the Smoke-Free Handicap (1600m) at
Morphettville on Saturday.
Daneforce had been racing well in
tougher races and on Saturday although he was up in weight to 57kilos, Jeremy
Gask engaged a three-kilo claiming apprentice, Cody Morgan allowing the
seven-year-old son of Danzero's chalk up win number eight.
Daneforce held Umanoola
(Umatilla - Noble Peace - New Regent) by three-quarters-of-a-length with Our
Harvest Time (Church Parade - Harbour Princess by Harbor Prince) the same
margin away in third.
March 22, 2004
Triumphant Unicorn made a big
impression in Hong Kong at Sha Tin on Sunday by bolting away with the opening
race on the Derby card.
Triumphant Unicorn was bred and offered for sale by John Baxter’s Ruane Stud at Menangle, fetching $240,000 at the 2002 Australian Easter Yearling Sale. The three year old is by Danzero from the stakes-placed Canny Lad mare Have Love.
March 14th, 2004
Another metropolitan double for Danzero including
a stakes victory by his juvenile son Dance Hero who scored an all-the-way
victory in the G3 Skyline Stakes (1200m) at the Canterbury night
meeting.
Dance Hero, the winner of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January, needed
the victory to ensure his place in the G1 Golden Slipper field as his prizemoney from the rich Gold Coast race does not count towards Slipper qualification.
Chris Munce made sure of the result when he jumped the gelding straight to the front where he dictated the pace and held off the challenge from
Fastnet Rock (Danehill - Piccadilly Circus by Royal Academy) by a
half-length with Econsul (Pins - Gypsy Sould by Centaine) third another 3-3/4 lengths away.
Prepared by Gai Waterhouse, who said after the race that she was unsure whether Dance Hero would run again between now and the Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 3.
"We'll play it by ear," Waterhouse said.
"I'm not sure if he will run again or if he needs to."
A little under an hour-and-a-half later in Victoria at Moonee Valley, Danzero's
daughter Brilliant Jewel jumped straight into the bridle for an all-the-way win in
the Business Network Luncheon Handicap (1000m).
A striking brown three-year-old filly prepared
by popular trainer Bill Mitchell, looked in great condition before the
race. Ridden by Steve King who only gave Brilliant Jewel (ex A Jewel by
Prego) only two taps with the whip over the final 200m of the race.
Brilliant Jewel's winning margin
was 3-1/2 lengths over Pop Weasel (Weasel Clause - Haughty Vain by Vain)
with another 2-1/4 lengths back to Takook (Keltrice - Star Silk Lady) in
third.
February 16th, 2004
In Hong Kong on Sunday at Sha Tin, Danzero
four-year-old Zero In improved from two recent placings to score
his first win. He led throughout over the 1400 metre journey and showed good
fight to repel a late challenge.
Zero In was purchased by renowned bloodstock agent John Foote for
$52,500 at the 2001 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne.
Offered by Chatswood Stud as agent, he is from
the good metropolitan winner Onbellera, a sister to the dam of stakes-winners
Slipstream and Blazing Aspect.
February 15th, 2004
Tiny Danzero filly Sharp showed
that her win in the Satellite Stakes was no fluke when she claimed the scalps of
some of the better fillies in the land to win the Light Fingers Stakes (1180m)
at Randwick on the Kensington track on Saturday.
As expected, the early pace was on to the turn where the whole field skirted wide
as the pattern was for the day. Once Sharp was balanced Corey Brown gave
the filly more reign and she ran away from her rivals to score a
three-quarters-of-a-length win.
The Bart Cummings prepared Generosa (Generous
- Cousins by Danehill) flashed home for an eye-catching second, while another Danzero
filly Hinting (ex Won't Tell by Rory's Jester) was a short-head away in third.
In winning her fifth career start from only 13
starts Sharp's earnings edged past $260,000, adding to the outstanding run being enjoyed by her
sire Danzero.
Sharp was purchased for $90,000 from the Widden Stud consignment at the 2002 Easter Yearling sale. She is the second foal and second winner out of the winning Don’t Say Halo mare Snarl a half-sister to the ill-fated filly
Angst.
Snarl has a two-year old filly by Belong To Me named Forever Mine. Her yearling colt by High Yield was passed in at January’s Classic sale when bidding fell short of her $60,000 reserve. Snarl foaled a colt by Royal Academy on October 19 and was not served this season.
Danzero is currently in eighth spot on the general sires table and he
heads the two-year-old sires list with a $450,000 plus lead.
February 2nd, 2004
The news just keeps getting better for Danzero
with news out this morning from Hong Kong.
John Moore and Shane Dye combined forces to win the griffins race with
a Danzero first starter Winning Power. The two-year-old began fairly but had to be ridden hard to stay in touch over the 1000 metre journey and did a great job to run down the early leader.
Winning Power was purchased by Olympia Bloodstock at the 2003 Classic Yearling Sale for $85,000. He was prepared by Woodlands Stud as agent and is from the good metropolitan winner
Charismatic (by Al Hareb), a half-sister to stakes-winning juveniles Spend and
Volts.
February 1st 2004.
Tiny flying three-year-old filly, Sharp
showed her class beating the older horses the Listed Satellite Stakes at
Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
Sharp's win in the feature gave Danzero
his 14th stakes winner, his third during January, joining Dance Hero
(ex Gypsy Dancer by Dance Floor) the winner of the GCTC Magic Millions 2YO
Classic-RLR and Sanziro (ex Will Fly by Will Dancer) winner of MRC's Blue
Diamond Preview-Gr.3.
Sharp jumped away well from barrier five travelling fourth into the
Rosehill straight, giving her the last crack at the classy top-weight Star Of Florida
(Telesto - Try It On by Snaadee) who had set a cracking pace, to race home 1-1/2
lengths ahead of him. Britt's Best (Danehill - Bal Des Sirenes by
Warning) was another 1-1/4 lengths away in third.
In recording her fourth victory, all at the
1100m journey, from just 12 career starts, Sharp
stoped the clock in course record time of 1:02.52.
Later in the day in Western Australia at Ascot,
Danzero struck again with another juvenile winner in the Reeces Hire
Handicap (1000m). Danny Blue (ex Evian by Jon George) made a
successful debut beating My Leo (Metal Storm - Miss Amico by Drought) by
three-quarters-of-a-length.
January 10th, 2004
Danzero further enhanced his status as a
top sire making an immediate impact with his current crop of two-year-olds, when
his son Dance Hero turned on a brilliant exhibition of strength and
sustained speed to win the rich Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions Juvenile Classic
(1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Prepared by Gai Waterhouse and ridden to perfection by Chris Munce, both etching
their names further into Magic Millions history as Dance Hero's win gave both
Waterhouse and Munce their third win in the race and their second together.
Munce jumped Dance Hero away from
barrier 7, landing in front of the big field and he was never headed. Dance
Hero held a winning margin of three-quarters-of-a-length from Not A Single Doubt
(Redoute's Choice - Singles Bar by Rory's Jester) with Marie Madeleine
(Redoute's Choice - Star Plume by Military Plume) 4-¼ lengths away in third.
In winning his second race from only three
career starts, Dance Hero set a race record clocking 1:08.75 taking .27 of a second off the old record set by
Catnipped (Rory's Jester) in 1998.
Waterhouse said “They are a wonderful group of owners who have been with me through thick and thin since I started training 12 years ago.
Dance Hero is just a natural athlete who has got brilliant gate speed and is a very exciting horse and we are all thrilled to be associated with him."
Dance Hero cost Waterhouse $90,000 at last year’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale and his win today took his earnings to $609,250.
The race was a triumph for Arrowfield Stud
as they stand Danzero, the sire of Dance Hero, Daneforce (ex
Dance Attendance by What A Guest) and Sharp (ex Snarl by Don't Say Halo)
recording a metropolitan treble of winners in three states and Redoute's
Choice, who produced the placings - Not A Single Doubt and Marie Madeleine.
In October 2003, at Tattersalls Yearling Sale in England a yearling filly from
Fleeting Rainbow by Danzero sold for 260,000 guineas, setting the bar higher for
the quality sire.
“We were always confident that Danzero would have a good season this
year from the strength of the reports from trainers,” said Arrowfield Managing
Director John Messara.
“He [Danzero] has covered excellent quality books of mares the past few
seasons and this has reflected in the sales ring and now on the racetrack. It is
also gratifying that his stock is sought after in the Northern Hemisphere,”
added Messara.
December 29th, 2003
At Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, Dance Hero
lived up to his early hype to stake his claim for next month's Magic Millions
when he scored a strong win in the A Royale Handicap (1100m) on Saturday.
Sent out a short priced favourite, Dance Hero jumped straight to the lead and was never headed to score a hollow 5-1/2 length victory
over Nawaaf (Danehill - Small Timer) with Gaze On (Intergaze -
Joleur) another 1-3/4 lengths back in third.
Connections paid $90,000 for the son of
Danzero, who was having just his second run after bombing the start but finishing hard to grab third to Charge Forward in the Listed Breeders Plate in October.
Danzero, chalked up a double when It's
Not Fair (ex Classic Belle by Bellotto) won the Class 1 Handicap (1200m)
at the Gold Coast by a short-half-head.
December 14, 2003
The small but very quick Danrego earned a start in the Group Two weight-for-age Norman Carlyon Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley next month after landing successive wins at the Valley with a course record-breaking victory.
Danrego ran a sizzling 1:10.16 in the Functional Packaging Solutions Hcp (1200m) to break the previous 1200-metre track record of 1:10.25 set by Before Too Long.
Trainer Lee Freedman said he had given the daughter of 1994 Golden Slipper winner
Danzero and Marscay mare Marrego only one track gallop since she won at the night meeting at Moonee Valley on November 20.
"You have to keep her fresh," Freedman explained.
"She goes very well here. She is very small and lightly framed so the idea is to keep her down in the weights."
Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, Danrego sped to the front and that was where she stayed, holding out topweight
Raja Lane (Devaraja - English Lane by Francis Bacon) by three-quarters of a length with
Raven Protector (Hector Protector - Raven Runner by Storm Bird) a similar margin away third.
December 7th, 2003
Debut success on a slow track for Conrod
Straight in the Stargames Handicap (1000m) at Randwick on
Saturday. Conrod Straight is from the Marscay mare Artheena
who was successful in the wet and his grandam Flitter (Bluebird) was a
fantastic mare in the soft going, so his pedigree indicated that he would handle
the conditions well.
Conrod Straight jumped away well
from barrier six, landing in front relishing the soft going the front running role
came naturally to Conrod Straight, who never looked in danger from
then on in and scored by a comfortable 1-1/4 lengths.
Nawaaf (Danehill - Small Timer by
Lyphard) couldn't make any ground on the winner to run second with 2-3/4 lengths
to Connecticut (Danehill - Milva by Strawberry Road) third.
Conrod Straight was the last horse
that the late Max Lees bought at the 2001 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale ($85,000) as he had trained both the dam and
grandam, it was fitting that the brown colt by Danzero could carry on the tradition of success in the family with
Max's son Kris in charge.
Conrod Straight covered the five
furlong journey in 58.59 seconds and he covered the final 600m in a nippy 34.93.
November 23, 2003
On a wet, grey day in Sydney on Saturday
afternoon, Danzero mare Incarnation gave her connections
something to smile about when she ran out a convincing winner in the Devils Lair
Handicap (1400m) at Randwick.
The four-year-old mare had too much class for
her rivals and won by a comfortable 2-1/4 lengths, beating Erin Bee
(Anabaa - Crusading Lil by Crusader Sword) and Southern Rose (Unbridled's
Song - The Roscoe Rose by Thorn Dance) 1-1/4 lengths away in third.
In recording her third victory from just 10
race starts, Incarnation's prizemoney passed $65,000.
November 9, 2003
On the last day of the famous Flemington
Melbourne Cup carnival, Danzero's juvenile son, Sanziro took out
the G2 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m).
Sanziro had settled third behind Love
Jeddah (Danehill - Fayfa by Slip Anchor) on the rail side of the straight as
the eight-horse field divided into two sets of four.
Ridden by Brett Prebble, Sanziro
travelled as seasoned racehorse and all Prebble had to do was peel off the pack
and make his winning run . Sanziro went to the line strongly to defeat
Love Jeddah by 1-1/4 lengths with Insurgents (Commands - Partisan
by Canny Lad) a short-neck away grabbing third and completing a trifecta for the unstoppable Danehill
tribe.
Sanziro showed the benefit from his previous
outing when second to Squad (Quest For Fame) in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial (900m) at Flemington on October 4.
Todate Sanziro's two race starts have netted his connections $115,000 in earnings.
“He is a very nice colt,” said winning trainer Lee Freedman.
“He showed that a month ago at his debut as I know John Hawkes has a very good opinion of the winner (Squad)”.
“We came here pretty confident, he had the straight track experience and
he had worked very well.”
A year younger half-brother to the promising Bubble Gum Fellow filly Church On Sunday,
who has been placed at her only four starts, Sanziro was a $135,000 purchase by the Freedman Brothers at this year’s Easter Yearling Sale.
He is the second foal of the top class racemare
Will Fly the winner of nine and placed in 16 of her 48 starts for earnings of $432,640. A daughter of the Green Dancer stallion Will Dancer, Will Fly’s six stakes victories included the SAJC Adelaide Guineas (G3) and another four at Group 3 level. Will Fly is the only named foal of her dam Flying Aureole (Don’t Say Halo) who was exported to Thailand eight months after foaling
Will Fly.
September 22, 2003
Danzero's three-year-old filly Hinting
proved that her tip-top win at Flemington on September 6th was no fluke, as she
was too powerful for Ashenti (Ashkalani - Toneya by Blazing Saddles) to
earn her first stakes success, in the G3 Jumeirah International Stakes
(registered name Tranquil Star) at Caulfield on Sunday.
Trained by Bill Mitchell whose stable is firing
after a slow start following the transfer from Randwick to Caulfield, Hinting
broke her maiden with a nose victory over 1200m at Randwick on New Years day
then earned a big pay cheque when second to Secret Land in the $400,000 Inglis
2yo Classic on January 18.
A $32,000 purchase by Paul Moroney at the 2002
Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Hinting took her record to 3 wins 1 second
and 1 third for earnings of $216,850.
Hinting is the second named foal and
first winner out of the Rory’s Jester mare Won’t Tell who failed to win in
10 starts for Lee Freedman but was placed three times in Melbourne including a
third in the Listed VRC Neat 'n' Trim Uniforms Stakes. Won’t Tell has a
two year old Redoute’s Choice filly named Miss Discretion, a yearling
colt by Spinning World and was served by Rubiton last season.
September 7, 2003
The opening event at Flemington on Ascot Vale
Stakes day was won by the big Danzero filly Hinting (ex
Won't Tell by Rory's Jester) for Caulfield trainer Bill Mitchell.
Hinting raced down the flat side
of the straight course third behind a wall of horses and her jockey Brett
Prebble had to use all of his skill to secure a run through the pack to score by
half-a-head from Slice of Paradise (Encosta De Lago - Oceanfast by
Monde Bleu) who raced down the middle of the track, with Crown Princess
(Beautiful Crown - Antolomeo by Tolmeo) on the flat side of the track to finish
three-quarters-of-a-length away third.
Then in Western Australia, Waikopou
Bay (ex Puddles by Zoffany) made it an interstate metropolitan double
for Danzero when the six-year-old gelded son took out the Handicap
(1400m) at Belmont by three-quarters-of-a-length.
August 31st, 2003
Arrowfield Stud's, Danzero is on a roll
not only did he produce an interstate double on Saturday with two very
impressive three-year-old fillies, he's moving up the first season sires list in
Great Britain with eight individual winners from just 15 starters.
The consistent Sharp (ex Snarl by
Don't Say Halo) franked her form with a 2 ¼-length win in the Cadbury Roses Handicap
at Rosehill while punters were not so enamoured with the win of 20/1 shot Sundiva
(ex Our Summertime by Zabeel) at Morphettville.
In England, Jamie Osborne sent o |
