King Cugat (USA) featured in New Zealand last week with a two year-old winner when the Mark Walker trained Cougar King scored an impressive win at
Riccarton.
Starting a short priced favourite, the gelding won the 800 metre juvenile open event by a length and a half on debut in 46.25 seconds.
A $40,000 purchase for David Ellis from the draft of Timberlee Thoroughbreds at the 2008 NZB Select Yearling Sale, Cougar King was a successful pinhook having been bought from the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale for $7,000.
Cougar King is a half-brother to Group Three placed mare Savannah being from the Whiskey Road (USA) mare
Megalong Maid.
Cougar King made it a race-to-race double for King Cugat, who sired the previous winner Hold It Harvey.
A stakes-winner last season at three, the Terri Rae trained Hold it Harvey won a Ratings 90 event over 1400 metres taking his overall record to four wins and nine placings from 19 starts with earnings in excess of $110,000.
Australian bred Hold It Harvey is prepared at Riccarton by Terri Rae, who travelled to the Gold Coast to purchase her charge at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale in 2006.
Hold it Harvey was bred and offered for sale by Gerry Harvey under his Baramul Stud banner, fetching $16,000 to the bid of Terri Rae at the 2006 Magic Miullions National Yearling Sale.
He is the first foal of the Best Western mare Daly Charm, a half-sister to stakes-placed Chanted and grand-daughter of French
Group One winner Princess Lida.

King Cugat's Xavier claimed his fourth career win on Saturday at Rosehill
when successful in the Upstream "Print Less" Handicap (1400m).
Trained at Warwick Farm by Bart Cummings Xavier was slow to begin with Blake
Shinn letting him settle into his rhythm. Once balanced up in the straight
he produced a strong finishing sprint to win the three-year-old Handicap by
2-1/4 lengths from Seraphino (Fusaichi Pegasus - Quinsigimond by Formidalble)
with Barbarino (Zabeel - Ugachaka by Danasinga) another length away third.
Shinn told TVN's Richard Callendar that he intended to go forward but he
didn't hit the ground running - adding "I didn't get the run I expected but
he had them covered a long way out."
King Cugat stands at Widden Stud again this spring.

King Cugat (USA) produced his sixth black type winner when Quizzical
Lady raced away with the Listed Glenlogan Park Stakes at Doomben on
Saturday.
Ridden by Brad Pengelly, Quizzical Lady finished off the race strongly
when getting the better of the race favourite Chinchilla Rose (Lion Hunter -
Chiara by Last Tycoon) to grab her eighth and most important win.
Quizzical Lady had improved off her length seventh in the Listed
Gold Coast Stocking at her previous outing.
Quizzical Lady is from the American bred mare No Scruples (by Blushing
John a son of Blushing Groom), winner of a lone race in America over 1200m and a
half-sister to My Sugar Magnolia (by Opening Verse) a black type
winner.
No Scruples comes from a family that's produced the Grade I Woodbine
Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies and Belmont Frizette Stakes winner Storm Song (by
Summer Squall).
Quizzical Lady is the third southern hemisphere black type winner for King
Cugat along with the Group I winner Devil Moon (VRC Turnbull Stakes)
and the New Zealand black type winner Hold It Harvey.
King Cugat is by Kingmambo out of a half-sister to Seeking the Gold.
He was a stakes winner and multiple graded stakes placed on the turf at two, and the following year matured into the leading U.S. turf middle-distance performer of his generation. At that age he won five black-type events, including the Jamaica Handicap
(G2), Bowling Green Handicap (G3), Arlington Classic (G3) and Crown Royal American Turf Stakes
(G3), he also took second in four grade one events.
In the Northern Hemisphere, King Cugat has another three stakes winners,
the Arlington Classic Stakes
(G3) winner, Kingship; Display and Charlie Barley Stakes winner Seaside
Retreat; and the El Cajon Stakes winner Latin Rhythms. He
stands at Widden Stud again this spring.

Come On Cugat got punters off to a great start when he won the first
race on the Golden Rose card at Rosehill on Saturday. Ridden by Nash
Rawiller, who had the four-year-old handy in the run, in the Ratings 86 event
over 2000 metres, he defied all challengers to win by a head, taking
his overall earnings past $180,000.
Come On Cugat is one of four winners for his dam Come On Klaire (by Sir
Tristram), a three-quarter sister-in-blood to the Group I winning and
proven sire Kaapstad and half-sister to the stakes winning St Klaire
and stakes placed Eire. The family has recently had a new stakes
placegetter appear in the first generation as Come On Klaire's daughter
Hootenanny (by Best Western) is the dam of the Listed VRC Flemington
Festival of Racing Stakes runner-up Sidereus (by General Nediym).
Come On Cugat is one of a number of smart horses sired by King Cugat (USA) this season including Group One winner Devil Moon, Kiwi stakes-winner Hold it Harvey and good metropolitan winners Quizzical Lady, King of the Nile and
Xavier.
King Cugat has good representation at the forth coming Magic Millions Yearling Sale
at the Gold Coast with 17 yearlings catalogued (March 24- April 2nd).
January 27th, 2008
Lightly raced King Cugat three year-old Xavier made a good impression with his bold win at Randwick on Saturday over 1600 metres.
Stepping up to a Ratings 88 event after breaking his maiden at his previous start, the Bart Cummings trained Xavier handled the class rise with ease in leading throughout to beat the favourite Kingda Ka by a neck.
“Type-wise he is as good a horse as you will see,” said winning jockey Danny Nikolic.
“I was able to get a pretty good run and I knew he would have a good kick in him.”
Xavier was purchased for $80,000 by King Thoroughbreds at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and has already returned $66,750 in
prize money for his syndicate of owners.
Bred and offered for sale by Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud Xavier is the third foal of the Danehill
mare Vintage Power, a half-sister to stakes-winner Great Anna from the Group Two winning stayer Great Vintage, who ran fourth in the Group One VRC Melbourne Cup when trained by Bart Cummings.
Xavier is one of a number of smart horses sired by King Cugat this season including
Group One winner Devil Moon, New Zealand stakes-winner Hold it Harvey
and good metropolitan winners Quizzical Lady, King of the Nile and Come on Cugat.
January 6th, 2008
Leading third season sire King Cugat (USA) featured at Randwick on Saturday
when Xavier won the Vili's Maiden Hcp (1400m).
Trained on course by Bart Cummings the three year-old bay gelding won at his
seventh start after improving off an encouraging fourth when he resumed at Randwick on December
22. On Saturday, Xavier finished off strongly to score by a long neck.
An $80,000 purchase for King Thoroughbreds from the Baramul Stud draft at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Xavier is the third foal of the Danehill
mare Vintage Power, a three-quarter sister to stakes-winner Great Anna and daughter of Group Two winner
Great Vintage.
Bred to improve over ground he could pay to follow this preparation as he matures and gets up to more suitable distances.

Widden Stud have had cause to celebrate over the last few weeks with Group One success for Bon Hoffa, a horse they bred and sold, and now a Group One winner for their young sire King Cugat
(USA) in Devil Moon, winner of the VRC Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.
“It’s been a great start to the season for our clients with Group One wins for Bon Hoffa and now Devil Moon, who looked outstanding in winning the Turnbull on Saturday to give King Cugat his first Group One winner,” said Antony Thompson.
Bred and raced by long time Widden client Harry Perks of Toorak Park Stud in South Australia, Devil Moon has been in slashing form this spring winning her last three starts in succession and taking her overall record to eight wins and three placings from 16 starts with earnings of $832,750.
Her efforts have propelled King Cugat to be the leading Australian third season sire by earnings and his success is not confined to Australia, the son of Kingmambo also represented by a three year-old stakes-winner in New Zealand last week in Hold it Harvey, winner of the Listed Ray Coupland Stakes at Ashburton.
Prepared at Riccarton by Ms Terri Rae, Hold it Harvey scored impressively in the 1400 metre event, racing clear to win by close to two lengths leaving record priced colt Saperavi in his wake.
”King Cugat was a top class turf performer in North America with an impeccable record of seven wins and eight placings from 16 starts,” said Thompson.
“His best form was at three and four and he was effective up to 2400 metres, so you always suspected his stock would need some time to hit their straps and that is exactly what we’re seeing now.”
Devil Moon’s dam Classy Babe (NZ) is at Widden Stud where she gave birth to a colt by Dubawi (IRE) last week and is booked back to visit King Cugat again this spring.
Closely related to champion US sire Seeking the Gold, King Cugat is free of Danzig blood so is suitable for a wide range of mares and his fee of $8,800 is certainly value as the sire of five stakes-winners highlighted by one of the stars of the spring carnival in Devil Moon.
September 23rd, 2007
Just three starts into the campaign, Devil Moon has stamped herself as one to watch in the major events of the 2007-2008 campaign. She finished-up last Autumn with a hat-trick of wins in the H. C. Nitschke Stakes, Port Adelaide Guineas and Auraria Stakes
(G3), before ending her year with a third in the Australian Oaks (G1), her first attempt at 2000m. This year after a first up run over 1200m., Devil Moon has added the Let’s Elope Stakes
(G3) and W. H. Stocks Stakes (G2).
Devil Moon is a member of the first Southern Hemisphere crop sired by
King Cugat. An extremely well-bred horse – he is by Kingmambo out of a half-sister to Seeking the Gold –
King Cugat was a stakes winner and multiple graded stakes placed on the turf at two, and the following year matured into the leading U.S. turf middle-distance performer of his generation. At that age he won five black-type events, including the Jamaica Handicap
(G2), Bowling Green Handicap (G3), Arlington Classic (G3) and Crown Royal American Turf Stakes
(G3), he also took second in four grade one events. In the Northern Hemisphere, King Cugat has three stakes winners from his first two crops: the Arlington Classic Stakes
(G3) winner, Kingship; Display and Charlie Barley Stakes winner Seaside
Retreat; and the El Cajon Stakes winner Latin Rhythms.
Devil Moon is out of the New Zealand-bred Classy Babe. This daughter of Masterclass, was a three time winner between 1100 and 1250m., and earned black-type with a third in the Port Adelaide Stakes. Classy Babe was half-sister to
Skybeau, winner of the Rain Lover Stakes, two renewals of the Birthday Cup (G3), and also runner up in two runnings of the Adelaide Cup (G3). The grandam, Beaumont Babe – a daughter of Sky Diver – gained a graded win in the Escort Cup (G3), and is half-sister to the Irwin Stakes (G2) winner, Montrose Lass. We don’t find anything particularly outstanding in the next couple of generations of Devil Moon’s female line, but her sixth and seventh dams, Gold Flight and Francolin were major New Zealand tap-root mares. Among the notables descending from Gold Flight are Railway Handicap (G1) winners Ajasco and Silver Liner; South African grade one winners Hoeberg and Petrava; Metropolitan Handicap (G1) hero Victory Smile; and Australian Derby, VRC Oaks and Queensland Oaks victress Show Ego. Other stars descending from Francolin are Queensland Oaks winner Winnipeg; Loughanure, who took the Auckland Sires Produce Stakes; and Oakleigh Plate (G1) winner Turf Ruler and her Perth Cup winning son, Philomel.
Devil Moon is one of three stakes winners bred on the cross of Kingmambo
and mares from the male-line of The Minstrel, the others being Kingmambo’s English group winning son,
Governor Brown, and English listed winner Army of Angels, a son of King’s Best. It’s no surprise that this cross works well: The Minstrel has been a good foil for Mr. Prospector in general, and Kingmambo has also done well with mares descending from The Minstrel’s three-parts-brother, Nijinsky II, this cross producing group and grade one winners
Tawqeet, Russian Rhythm, Alkaased and Rule of Law.

It was a race card full of stars on Saturday at Moonee Valley with the
running of the Group I Manikato Stakes and with four group races on the
undercard where the competition was stiff - the results kept happening in
keeping of the theme of the day where only the best survived.
Devil Moon, was one of those. She's a top class mare and in the
Group 2 Independent Cranes Stakes (registered name: Stock Stakes 1600m), she
turned in an awesome performance to claim her second stakes race within seven
days.
Ridden again by Michael Rodd, Devil Moon, had to content with another
horror barrier draw, and this time Rodd elected not to lead. He sat deep
with cover and she travelled as though she was racing on the fence, Rodd told
TVN's Bruce Clark. "The ride wasn't pretty"
"She's just unreal".
In turning in a top class performance Devil Moon was elevated to the seventh
line of Caulfield Cup betting at $17 - she was a $50 chance before Saturday.
Jumping from barrier 18, Rodd was stuck on a limb, but showing his quality he
refused to panic, and just looked for cover as Empire Dancer set a strong pace,
clocking a slick 59.1seconds for the first 1000m. Rodd kept Devil Moon's
momentum going and she showed her quality as she kept going. In the end
she held Brom Felinity (Encosta de Lago - Brompton Cross by El Qahira), who had
the blinkers back on after her shocking effort in the Group 3 Lets Elope
Stakes the previous Saturday at Flemington, by a length.
Hidden Strings (Weasel Clause - Shining Sue by Buoy) was another 1-1/4
lengths away in third.
Devil Moon is out of the New Zealand-bred Masterclass mare, Classy Babe
who has three wins and a third placing the Listed Port Adelaide Guineas
to her credit in South Australia. Classy Babe is a half-sister to Skybeau (by
Dahar), a winner of eight races and the Group 3 SAJC Birthday Cup and
Rain Lover Plate. He also finished second in the Group I Adelaide
Cup and Group 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup and third in the Group I Melbourne
Cup during his racing career.
Skybeau's dam Beaumont Babe (by Sky Diver) is the winner of 13
races including the SAJC Group 3 Escort Cup.
September 9th, 2007
Flemington racecourse was back in action on
Saturday, with the 'new' track receiving praise by trainers and jockeys who were
glad to be back racing at 'headquarters' - even though no sectional times were
available and the two audio systems of Flemington TV and TVN crossed each other
at the most inopportune times it didn't seem to matter. The sun was
shining and after a 10-month absence from racing at 'headquarters' smiles could
be seen all round.
Especially on the face of Flemington's newest trainer, Mark Kavanagh who
saddled up the Group 3 Let's Elope Stakes (1400m) winner, Devil Moon.
Although the daughter of King Cugat had drawn barrier 20 Kavanagh
instructed his rider Mike Rodd to ride her positively and use her gate
speed. The gamble paid off as Rodd gave her a masterful ride and Devil
Moon cruised to the lead from her wide gate and relaxed beautifully and
travelling very kindly by the time they to got to the 1000m mark. Rating
her at a strong tempo Rodd waited on Devil Moon till he got to the 300m and then
he let her down and home she cruised with the win never in doubt to score by a
widening 1-1/2 lengths from Eskimo Queen (Shinko King - Cold Type by
Icelandic).
Devil Moon is out of the New Zealand-bred Masterclass mare, Classy Babe
who has three wins and a third placing the Listed Port Adelaide Guineas
to her credit in South Australia. She is also a half-sister to Skybeau (by
Dahar), a winner of eight races and the Group 3 SAJC Birthday Cup and
Rain Lover Plate. He also finished second in the Group I Adelaide
Cup and Group 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup and third in the Group I Melbourne
Cup during his career.
Skybeau's dam Beaumont Babe (by Sky Diver) recorded 13 wins during her
career with stakes success in the SAJC Group 3 Escort Cup. So Devil
Moon's family has plenty of staying depth within.
Devil Moon will continue to contest mares races with her main target being
the Group I Caulfield Cup where she has a feather weight of
50.5kgs. The Caulfield Cup (2400m) is run on Saturday, October 20th.

King Cugat (USA) was represented by a new stakes-winner in North America last Friday night when three year-old colt Latin Rhythms won the El Cajon Stakes over a mile on the all weather track.
Second at his most recent start in the Group Two La Jolla Stakes on turf, Latin Rhythms improved to score a good win and showed a real liking for the synthetic surface on which he has started three times for as many wins.
“I went a little wide with him, but I thought I was on much the best horse, so I rode him that way,” said winning jockey Jose Valdivia Jr.
“Ran down the stretch on his wrong lead and still broke the track record. That tells you how good a horse he is.”
The Ronald Ellis trained colt has now won three races and placed twice from five starts earning $US152,240 in prizemoney.
A $US140,000 purchase from the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic October Yearling Sale, Latin Rhythms is from the Seattle Dancer mare Chris Rocket Girl, a half-sister to stakes-winner Wild Har.
He becomes the fifth stakes-winner worldwide for King Cugat (USA), joining Australian Group Three winner Devil Moon along with Kingship, Seaside Retreat and Reina Musical.
Kind Cugat (USA) did not travel to the Northern Hemisphere this year so is safely in residence at Widden Stud where he is available to breeders at a fee of
$8,800.00 (inc gst).
April 15th, 2007
Classy three year-old King Cugat (USA) filly Devil Moon continued
on her winning way at Cheltenham on Saturday afternoon when she raced to her third consecutive stakes victory in the Listed SAJC Port Adelaide Guineas.
Backing up from a convincing win in the Group 3 SAJC Auraria Stakes on March 31, the Mark Kavanagh trained filly dived through late to score by a length, boosting her overall record to five wins and two seconds from 11 starts, her prizemoney soaring to $255,750.
Bred by leading South Australian farm Toorak Park Stud, Devil Moon is the third foal and first stakes-winner for her dam, stakes-placed Classy Babe, a half-sister to quality stayer Skybeau from Group Three winning racemare Beaumont Babe.
Skybeau was one of the best stayers of his time and placed third to Saintly in the 1996 Melbourne Cup, so it will be no surprise if Devil Moon measures up as an Oaks filly.
April 2nd, 2007
In-form Adelaide trainer Mark Kavanagh could do no wrong on Saturday with a Group One win
with Divine Madonna in the Queen of the Turf Stakes (1500m) after victory
earlier in the day in the Group Two Tulloch Stakes (2000m) with Tipungwuti and
in South Australia at Morphettville he claimed the Group Three Auraria
Stakes (1800m) with Devil Moon.
Devil
Moon was coming off a good win in the Nitschke Stakes (1400m) at her previous start
where she raced on the speed and showed a good turn of foot a week
earlier. The extra 400m in Saturday's event assisted the bay filly as she
raced in a forward position and proved too strong for her rivals to claim her
second stakes win in two weeks by three-quarters-of-a-length over Zedazest (Fuji
Kiseki - Zest by Marauding) and Tahnee Tango (Grand Lodge - Tahnee by
Lake Coniston) another two lengths away in third.
Devil Moon is building an impressive resume with four wins and two seconds from 10 starts with earnings of
more than $195,000.
Bred by leading South Australian farm Toorak Park Stud, Devil Moon is the third foal and first stakes-winner for her dam, stakes-placed Classy Babe, a half-sister to quality stayer Skybeau from
Group Three winning racemare Beaumont Babe. Skybeau was one of the best stayers of his time and placed third to Saintly in the 1996 Melbourne Cup, so it will be no surprise if
Devil Moon measures up as an Oaks filly.
Devil Moon is one of a 13 Australian winners this season for her sire
King Cugat (USA).
March 25th, 2007
Former US Champion Turf Horse, King Cugat (USA) was represented by his first Australian stakes-winner on Saturday when the Mark Kavanagh trained filly
Devil Moon captured the Listed SAJC HS Nitschke Stakes at Cheltenham over 1460 metres.
Ridden forward from a wide gate,
Devil Moon cruised to the lead on straightening and was never troubled in scoring by the best part of two lengths over Classic de Lago and Zedazest.
A brilliant winner at Caulfield last spring on Cup Day in an open fillies event,
Devil Moon has always indicated a stakes win could be on the agenda and has now delivered on that potential.
Devil Moon has three wins and two seconds from nine starts with earnings of $115,750 and can doubtless be placed to further advantage in coming weeks.
Bred by leading South Australian farm Toorak Park Stud, Devil Moon is the third foal and first stakes-winner for her dam, stakes-placed Classy Babe, a half-sister to quality stayer Skybeau from
Group Three winning racemare Beaumont Babe.
Devil Moon is one of a dozen Australian winners this season for her sire King Cugat (USA) who has shuttled to Widden for the last five years and remained in Australia at the end of the last season for a well-earned rest.
October 22nd, 2006
Classy King Cugat filly Devil Moon made a great impression in scoring an easy win in the first event
on the Caulfield Cup card on Saturday.
Trained in South Australia by Mark Kavanagh, Devil's Moon was well supported in the betting ring and ran right up to expectation in settling just off the pace before chiming in with a strong run to win the 1400 metre event by a length and a half.
“She’s a promising filly who had no luck last start when she got skittled and then finished off well in what was probably a stronger race,” said Kavanagh.
“We’ll probably look at running her next in a race like the Great Western on Melbourne Cup day.”
Bred by leading South Australian farm Toorak Park Stud, Devil Moon is the third foal of stakes-placed Classy Babe, a half-sister by Masterclass (USA) to Group Three winning stayer Skybeau, who ran third in the 1996 Group One VRC Melbourne Cup behind Saintly.
Devil Moon’s grandam Beaumont Babe was also a high-class galloper winning 13 races up to 1600 metres highlighted by the Group Three SAJC Escort Cup.
Devil Moon has won two races from five starts earning $63,450 and is one of seven individual Australian winners for her sire King Cugat this season.
Worth noting is that King Cugat is by champion international sire Kingmambo, sire of Caulfield Cup winner
Tawqeet (USA). A champion turf horse himself, King Cugat is currently serving his fifth book of mares at a
very reasonable fee of $9,900 (inc gst).
July 2nd, 2006
Widden Stud’s King Cugat (USA) was represented by his fifth winner and first metropolitan winner when the Jack Denham-trained
Kooka took out the Two year old Handicap over 1200m at Rosehill Gardens
on Saturday.
Having her fifth start, Kooka, a bay filly, had put the writing on the wall at her previous
outing at Canterbury when a fast finishing second to Typhoon Zed over 100m at Canterbury
two weeks ago.
Ridden by James Innes, Kooka defeated Something Anything (Magic Albert -
Maline by Kala Dancer) by a short neck with Punchinello (Rory’s Jester - Plot
by Tierce) a further one-and-a-quarter-lengths away in third.
Kooka is a half-sister to the multiple Group 3 winner Kootoomootoo (Danewin),
and she is the seventh named foal of the Marscay mare Cachelle, a winner of three races in Sydney.
It has been a good week for King Cugat whose three-year-old son Seaside Retreat took
out the Listed Charley Barley Stakes over a mile on the turf at Woodbine on June 26.
January 8th, 2006
Just a day after recording his first southern hemisphere winner, exciting Kingmambo stallion
King Cugat had another success when his colt Chateau Cugat won at Woodville in New Zealand on Saturday.
Partnered by Lisa Cropp, the colt won at his second start over 1100 metres going away by two lengths from Tiger Magic (Sandtrap) with Didee Blue (O’Reilly) a further neck away third.
Trained by Cambridge-based Chris and Colleen Woods, Chateau Royal was a $25,000 Inglis Classic sale purchase offered by Redman Park
He is owned by P B Cogswell, K L Trust, G H Mander, G J McMahon & R P Rosenberg.
Chateau Cugat is out of Fairy King mare Chateaux Loire, a sister to VATC Quick-Eze Stakes (Gr 2) winner The Bandette.
King Cugat’s first Australian winner Heza Bonus will target the $500,000 Inglis Classic (1200m) at Rosehill on February 11 after winning on Friday in a fashion that suggests there is plenty more in store.
Heza Bonus, a $20,000 Inglis graduate, won a 2yo maiden over 1000m at Taree, sitting off the pace early before coming home three wide to fight neck-and-neck with well-backed Mr Genuine (Mr Henrysee, prevailing by half a neck with Milk ‘n’ Cookies (Twining) leading the rest home, four lengths away in third.
”He will be at his best when he gets up over a mile,” reported trainer Tas Morton.
“He had to be shaken up yesterday as he is very green, he gets to the front and sits there. He won well within himself,” Morton added.
“He will be a very nice racehorse when he learns what it is all about.”
Heza Bonus is a half-brother to three winners including the stakes placed Blonde Jester (Rory’s Jester) from the mare Stray Bullet, whose five wins include the WATC Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic (Gr 3).
Champion US turf horse King Cugat is the sire of two stakes winners with Seaside Retreat winning the Listed Display Stakes (1700m) in late November by almost four lengths. Seaside Retreat was stakes placed when third in the Grey Breeders’ Cup Stakes on October 1, initially won on debut on August 14 and again in mid-September.
King Cugat opened his Group One winning progeny account when the Reina Musical notched a decisive 3-1/2 length victory in the Camarero Stakes in South America.
Reina Musical has won three races and was second in the El Comandante Clasico Campeon Nativo Vuelve.
By Mr Prospector's champion sire Kingmambo, from a half-sister to champion sire Seeking The Gold, King Cugat has proven very popular with breeders seeking a Northern Dancer-outcross.
King Cugat's first Australian crop of yearlings fetched up to $460,000 and averaged $56,680 with 25 sold across all sales in 2005
The first youngsters by the highweighted USA turf horse met with approval from purchasers such as John O'Shea, Tim Martin, Paul Moroney, Tony Wildman, Bruce McLachlan and Hong Kong buyers.
In North America, King Cugat's 2005 crop of yearlings has averaged $US120,434 to date.
