Acorns staged in a good old slug fest to prove superior in the Listed
Golden Stakes Plate at Doomben on Saturday.
The Secret Savings gelding came into the stakes even with a good
effort in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic behind Augusta Proud and a win in the
Listed Meynink Stakes a start earlier.
Stepping out as the punters elect Acorns was ridden by Stathi Katsidis
and settled up front sharing the led with Feline Flyer (Catbird Wreckage).
Running along at a solid tempo they got away from the rest of the field and
turned for home well clear. With Feline Flyer refusing to allow Acorns get
away. Youthful Jack (Youthful Legs - Fomative by White Bridle) launched his
challenge charging from well back down the middle of the track, as Feline Flyer
began to tire in the shadows of the post to get within a half-head of
Acorns. Left Standing (Stravinsky - Anatomy by Thunder Gulch), also
finished hard from well back nosing his stable mate, Feline Flyer, out of third
prizemoney in a thrilling finish.
The win of Acorns, gave Katsidis a reason to smile as he tries to put his troubled past behind
as he had only returned to riding two weeks ago from a self-imposed lay-off to get his weight under control and
the gelding gave him his first winner since his return.
Trained by one of Queenslands top trainers Bruce McLachlan, Acorns,
was having his first run in blinkers and didn't appear comfortable in them, and
will now be aimed at the Group Two QTC Sires' Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm on May 31.
"I'll think about the blinkers, that was his first go in blinkers and he might learn a lot from that," McLachlan
told Larry Olsen of Sky Channel.
McLachlan selected Acorns at the 2007 Magic Millions Adelaide yearling
sale where he paid $62,000 for him and with three wins from his five-start
career and $165,000 in the bank he has more than repaid his owners. By
Secret Savings out of the Danewin stakes placed mare Shouq, Acorns
is her only stakes winner. Shouq is a half-sister to the stakes
placed six-time winners Kapuna (by Pirate Army) and Young Bill (by
Snaadee).

It was Magic Millions day at Wyong on Sunday and with a good crowd in
attendance Cent Per Cent showed he was more than just a wet track
specialist when he came with a determined bid to claim the Listed Gosford
Guineas.
The win has given the son of Secret Savings the ideal preparation as he heads
towards the $1 million Golden Rose at Rosehill next month.
Cent Per Cent had won both starts back from a spell on heavy tracks, including the Listed Gosford Guineas, but on a firmer surface on Sunday, punters sent the Allan Denham-trained Isurava out as the favourite.
The filly camped outside the lead and battled to the line for fifth but it was Cent Per Cent who
worried Court Award out of the prize to claim the $100,000 race by a short head.
The lightly-raced Malambo was doing his best work late another length away in
third.
Trained at Randwick by Graeme Rogerson who said that Cent Per Cent
would run in the Golden Rose and then he may back up into one of the Magic
Millions races.
Cent Per Cent was ridden by Dan Nikolic who believes he has the scope to get further than the 1300 metres of Sunday's race.
The Golden Rose (1400m) is at Rosehill on March 15 with the Magic Millions at the Gold Coast nine days later.
Cent Per Cent was purchased out of the 2006 Magic Millions Gold Coast
Yearling sale by Graeme Rogerson for $120,000 and he is out of the multiple
winning daughter of Snippets, Minnie Me a half-sister to the stakes winning, Courvoisier
and stakes placed Snow Beauty and Ice King. A little
further back in his pedigree the Storm Bird mare, INDIAN SKIMMER, winner
of the Group I Chantilly Prix de Diane, Longchamp's Prix d'Ispahan
and Prix Saint-Alary the Irish Phoenix Champion Stakes and the Newmarket
Champion Stakes. Along with TOUCH OF THE BLUES (by Cadeaux Genereux),
the winner of eight including the Group I Woodbine Atto Mile Stakes.
MISSY'S MIRAGE (by Stop the Music), also features with 14 wins and
the Grade I Belmont Hempstead Hcp and Shuvee Hcp win along with CLASSY
MIRAGE (by Storm Bird), 13 wins and the Grade 1 Saratoga
Ballerina Hcp.

The offspring of Secret Savings (USA) has continued its excellent run
since the resumption of racing in Sydney following the Equine Influenza shutdown.
Last Saturday at Rosehill in Sydney a talented member of the breed,
Swissac (ex Curvaceous by Zabeel) saluted in the Boat Show Hcp (1300m).
While in Melbourne at Flemington the highly promising Viatorian collect
black-type when he finished third in the Group 3 C S Hayes Stakes (formerly the
Debonair Stakes).
Viatorian is the first foal of Viator, a two-time winning daughter of Snaadee (USA)
who had success in Sydney as a juvenile. She in turn is a daughter of Walk Whatcha Talk (USA), whose 2006
colt by Al Maher is to be offered in the Emirates Park draft to be presented at the 2008 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale at Oaklands Junction during the first week of March.

Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Graeme Rogerson produced a double for Secret
Savings when Cent Per Cent and No Name For A Lady both ploughed through the mud to
claim races on the Rosehill card on Saturday.
No Name For A Lady (ex Sheher by Scenic), got the ball rolling when she took out
the Ambassador Travel Hcp (1300m) when she defeated Angel Girl (Rory's Jester -
Windana by Danehill) by a half-length.
No Name For A Lady's win was her sixth career victory and it took her
earnings past $230,000, a tidy profit for her connections as Graeme Rogerson
purchased No Name For A Lady from the 2004 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale
for just $13,000.
Three races later, Cent Per Cent made a triumphant return to the races after
an equine influenza spell when he claimed the www.theraces.com.au Hcp (1200m).
Cent Per Cent was a 2006 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling purchase when
Rogerson gave $120,000 for the grey son of Minnie Me (by Snippets). His
victory on Saturday took his earnings past $180,000. Minnie Me is a
half-sister to the Group 2 Gloaming Stakes winner, Courvoisier (by Hennessy) and
the stakes placed duo Snow Beauty (by Danehill) and Ice King (by Snaadee).
Cent Per Cent's pedigree has plenty of depth as the five-time Group I hero
Indian Skimmer (by Storm Bird) hails from the family.
Rogerson told Richard Calendar of TVN, "He's a nice horse and the staff have all done a great
job."
Cent Per Cent finished fourth to Apercu in the Group One TJ Smith (1600m) at Eagle Farm during last year's winter carnival and Rogerson again plans to test him in better grade this time in, with the upcoming Gosford Guineas and the $1 million Golden Rose on March 15 among the options.
Secret Savings has a great winners to runners strike rate of 59.9%, 224
winners from 374 runners, with his stock retained by breeders, he does have two
yearlings on offer at the New Zealand Select Sale at Karaka (Jan 30- Feb 1st)
and another four at the WA Magic Millions Perth Yearling sale (Feb
15-22nd).
April 29th, 2007
Secret Savings gelded son, Cent per Cent, kept his unbeaten record in tact
with a good win in the Crowne Plaza Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
Trained at Randwick by Graeme Rogerson, Cent Per Cent (ex Minnie Me by
Snippets), carried top weight of 58 kilograms to victory on a heavy track.
Performing so well he earned himself a trip to sunny Brisbane where his main
mission will be the Group One TJ Smith Stakes and Group 2 Sires' Produce Stakes.
Cent Per Cent's win followed a gutsy debut victory at Randwick on Easter
Monday. On Saturday, he was ridden by Zac Purton, and trailed the speed and when a run presented itself inside leader Richaz in the straight Purton
asked Cent Per Cent to sprint and he went through the gap to go on and score a comfortable 1-1/2 length win over
Kingda Ka (Flying Spur - Fizzi Lizzi by Royal Academy). Richaz (Zariz -
Oil Rich by Valiant Prospect) was third another length and-a-quarter away.

Two days after STALLIONS highlighted Bikkie Tin Blues as a rising star the
son of Secret Savings again gave his opposition the shakes as he cleaned them up
in the Giannis Restaurant Hcp (2040m) at Doomben on Saturday.
Ridden by Brad Pengelly, Bikkie Tin Blues (ex Ritual Music by Gregorian) made
it look all so easy in collecting his eighth career victory by two-and-a-quarter
lengths over Cold Start (Biscay Wonder - Balmerino Miss by Balmerino).
The Newcastle Cup (2300m) and the Group I AJC Metropolitan (2600m) are Bikkie
Tin Blues next goals.
August 26th, 2006
It sounds like lunacy, I know. Nonetheless STALLIONS is going to make Bikkie Tin Blues an eight year old veteran of 36 starts the next RISING STAR. His recent astounding nine length win in near course record time over 1800m at Eagle Farm had experienced racecaller Alan Thomas comparing him to Kingston Town and Tulloch. After the race he qualified those comments slightly by saying it was the most improved performance he had ever seen from a racehorse in all his years of calling.
Bikkie Tin Blues turned for home under a stranglehold and went to the line in the style of a horse whose rider might well have been instructed to give the horse as easy a barrier trial as possible and not to knock him about under any circumstances.
But he beat a team of walkers, I hear you say. Well not exactly, for the runner-up Mitanni is the winner of 12 races and over $415,000 and was in top form having won his previous start to bookend a string of two wins, three seconds and two thirds from his last seven starts, collecting over $115,000 in the process. Those seven runs alone would qualify him as an A runner under the APEX rating system devised by Bill Openheim and recently published exclusively in the Australian Bloodhorse Review.
No walker then, and beaten nine lengths under a hold. But he’s an 8YO and surely cannot have much of a future, I hear you say. Well perhaps, but there is no intrinsic reason a thoroughbred cannot perform well at six years or older, it’s just that most have given their best by then in the search for early returns.
As all racing historians would be aware, the mighty NZ stayer Great Sensation won the FIRST of his three successive Wellington Cups over two miles in 1961 as an eight year-old. There have been others but the point is made.
Why haven’t we heard of him before, I hear you say. Well, who knows, it is one of the mysteries of racing. Bikkie started his career in Victoria, where he amassed the creditable but unspectacular record of two wins, 12 placings and just over $54,000.
A move north to Queensland into the stable of Brian Smith (trainer of the legendary Balmerino) has seen him transformed into a rising superstar, winning his last four in a row, taking his Queensland record to five wins and two seconds from eight starts adding earnings of $122,450.
If the Cox Plate were run tomorrow he’d be a good thing. Okay, okay, so I’m getting a bit carried away. Nevertheless if he holds his form, a ‘big one’ is within his grasp this coming spring.
Bikkie Tin Blues has a number of inbreedings within seven generations to the staying influences Tourbillon, Prince Rose, Princequillo and Mahmoud but his pedigree is perhaps most notable for lack of significant inbreeding close up. He was bred by Emirates Park who sold him for a mere $22,000 at the QBBS Classic Sale in 2000. He is a half-brother to four other winners, the best being Roses and Wine by Akaaber who was a metropolitan winner of 13 races and $116,225 in Victoria.
The record of STALLIONS rising stars has been pretty good, so even though this might look like one from left field, there’s only one thing left to say. Go
Bikkie!
August 14th, 2006
At Eagle Farm on Saturday, veteran stayer Bikkie Tin Blues, reminded
breeders' what great value his sire Secret Savings is, when he destroyed his
opposition in the Exhibition Handicap (1800m).
Ridden by Brad Pengelly, Bikkie Tin Blues (ex Ritual Music by Gregorian), was
the punters elect and jumping away from barrier seven he cantered behind the
speed set by Minanni until the 800m. Travelling kindly for Pengelly they
strode past the inform Mitanni (Danewin - And a Hug by Ivor Prince) at the top
of the straight and scored by nine lengths.
Adavale Hornet (Admiralty - Bound to Happen by Not Too Soon) was a further length away third.
The win by Bikkie Tin Blues was his fourth in succession and it would have
given his trainer Brian Smith something to smile about.
Watching the race from afar - I must say that I've never seen a horse, let alone an eight-year-old,
annihilate an open class race so easily and run good time to boot! He ran
1:47.35 for the 1800m - now that's a good gallop.
News reports have his trainer saying that Bikkie Tin Blues will be set for the
Group Three Newcastle Gold Cup (2300m) at Newcastle on September 21 and
then on to the Group One Metropolitan Handicap (2400m) at Randwick on October
7.

Secret Savings took the honours at Scone on Friday at the clubs
biggest meeting of the year when he finished the day with a double including the feature
event, the Scone Cup.
Ridden in the cup by Kathy O'Hara and taken to the front to set a genuine
tempo Fighting Fund was never headed to score a three-quarter-of-a-length win in
the rich mile.
Fighting Fund's effort was matched when Cooder scored an amazing come from behind win in the Quality (1100m).
Secret Savings has proven himself as one of the country's leading sires - with other classy performers including stakes winners and Magic Millions graduates Shamekha, Dash for Cash, Super Savings and Maybe
McLaren.
Buyers looking to Secret Savings for their potential star galloper should start analysing their catalogue for June's Magic Millions National Sale on the Gold Coast.
He has eight yearlings scheduled to go under the hammer as part of the quality packed catalogue for the National Yearling Sale.
Among them are colts from stakes winning mares Love de Tor and Adeewin and a half sister to Almazyoon from the Roberto mare Luv
Luiana. Secret Savings is also represented by three weanlings
April 30th, 2006
The main meeting in New South Wales on Saturday was at the picturesque
Hawkesbury course with one of the feature races on the card being the City
Pacific Finance Hawkesbury Rowley Mile worth $100,000.
Ten horses lined up for the Rowley Mile with Warwick Farm trainer Guy Walter
supplying two of them, Lantwin and Fighting Fund. Lantwin (Victory Prince
- Lanatash) went out as the punters elect after a very game third in a Welter
during the AJC Autumn carnival, Lantwin a natural leader appeared well suited to
the tight layout of the Hawkesbury course. His stablemate Fighting Fund
had struggled at his past two outings so Walter had fitted blinkers to the
horses gear with Kathy O'Hara in the saddle.
O'Hara rode an inspired race having Fighting Fund tucked away midfield and as
her rivals left the rail at the 700m looking for better going O'Hara stayed
close to the rail and got a dream passage through and the chestnut son of Secret
Savings pricked his ears and sprinted home strongly to grab the feature by a
long head.
Spirit of Tara (song of Tara - Gagoosh by Marauding) did best of the rest out
wide for second. While Coalesce (Zabeel - Essylt by Artaius) got
home well for third another three-quarters-of-a-length away.
Walter said after Fighting Fund's victory that he would set the four-year-old
for the Scone Cup in May. His other runner Lantwin, who led but tired to finish fourth,
is now likely to go for a spell.
January 22nd, 2006
At Randwick on Saturday, Cooder showed he had plenty of miles left in his
seven-year-old legs to claim the Sledmere Hcp (1200m).
Down in the weights after only winning once since 2004, Cooder had shown a
glimpse of his best form getting home well last start on the same course in the
listed Carrington stakes. With the dead rated track he looked well placed
by his trainer Michael Clout.
Top-weight, Fox Lake went very hard up front, Cooder (ex Brown Teal by
Imperial Prince) was back at the tail of the field and once his rider Adrian
Robinson had him straightened up he came with a late sprint down the outside as Fox Lake compounded.
Cooder did best to claim Ganamac (Anabaa - Zero Hour by Avon Valley) by a long neck with another two lengths to Scotch
Gem (Langfuhr - Gemspray by Whiskey Road).

Super Savings, a bargain buy for top trainer Graeme Rogerson at February's Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale, is likely to head south and chase more black type success following his brilliant win the Breeders' Plate at listed level at Randwick
on Saturday.
A $20,000 yearling sale purchase, Super Savings romped home winning by two lengths in a race record winning time of 57.8 seconds.
"He's a nice colt," winning trainer Graeme Rogerson said. "We'll send him now to Melbourne for the Maribyrnong Plate and then set him for the Adelaide Magic Millions."
Super Savings (ex Arkadina by Myocard) cruised home to beat fellow Magic Millions graduate
Just Mambo (Danehill Dancer - Royal Subject by Kingmambo) by two lengths,
with Mentality (Flying Spur - Synaethesia by Quiet American) another long neck away.
A son of former quality racehorse Secret Savings, Super Savings has proven to be yet another great advertisement to one of the country's great yearling sale - the Adelaide Yearling Sale at Morphettville.
"I keep telling people about the exceptional value at the Adelaide sale," MM's Adelaide manager Grant Burns said today. "Where else can you buy a Breeders Plate winner for $20,000?"
"Graeme Rogerson has been a great supporter of Magic Millions sales and he is a regular and active buyer at the Adelaide Sale each year."
"I'm always amused at how a number of buyers willingly spend hundreds of thousands of dollars more at expensive interstate sales when the Adelaide sale is proven at the top level in every state of Australia."

Outstanding mare Shamekha claimed her second Group One race in a week after storming home in the All-Aged Stakes at Randwick.
Last Saturday, Shamekha lowered the colours of Fastnet Rock and Alinghi in the TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) and
she was just as effective on Saturday as she stepped up to 1400m and sounded a warning to her Stradbroke Handicap rivals.
Regal Roller was not allowed to take up his customary leader's role with Falkirk taking charge of Corey Brown and racing fiercely with the pair going through the first 800m in 45.43s.
What was happening up front played into Darren Beadman's hands aboard Shamekha as she
followed race favourite Only Words.
With Regal Roller tiring and Falkirk deciding to hang out at the top of the
straight, Only Words took control. Shamekha (ex Lifetime Story by
Don't Say Halo) had the last shot at Only Words (End Sweep - What Can I
Say by Khozaam) and a three-quarter-of-a-length break at the post.
Our Egyptian Raine (Desert Sun - Egyptian Queen by Karioi Lad) ran her
usual honest race for third two lengths further away.
"It's absolutely fabulous and full credit to the mare," trainer Gai Waterhouse said.
"The way the race turned out suited her and she just motored home."
Beadman was confident a long way out.
"They were flying up front and she's a very tractable mare and settled well for me," he said.
"In the straight she knew the race was on and hit the line hard."
March 27th, 2005
Talented Secret Saving's mare, Shamekha gave Gai Waterhouse her
2000th career winner in the group one race named after her late farther
T.J. Smith when she delivered a knock out blow to one of Australia's hottest
sprinters Fastnet Rock at Randwick on Saturday.
Shamekha, last year's Coolmore Classic winner, who had not won since, went into the race fresh with Waterhouse always targeting the sprint, long before she knew the
glamour three-year-olds would be there.
"I set her for this race and she was spot-on," Waterhouse said.
"I wasn't as confident when the rain came because she was unknown in the wet.
Both Fastnet Rock and Alinghi eased in betting with known wet-tracker Only Words well supported in the ring.
Shamekha (ex Lifetime Story by Don't Say Halo) settled fourth in the six-horse field with Fastnet Rock and Alinghi behind her, but as they struggled to find their feet she kicked to the front.
On the line Shamekha had a long neck over Fastnet Rock (Danehill
Piccadilly Circus by Royal Academy) with Only Words (End Sweep - What
Can I Say by Khozaam) a long head third and Alinghi (Encosta de Lago -
Oceanfast by Monde Bleu) fourth.
March 6th, 2005
On a wet cold grey day at Caulfield, Under the Floor made the day a
whole lot brighter for his connections grabbing a listed victory at his
second start in the Pol Roger Stakes (registered name Chairman's Stakes) at
Caulfield on Saturday.
A neat chestnut, Under the Floor, made his debut at Moonee Valley two
weeks earlier running second to the very smart Opportunity. With
the benefit of the experience he handled the windy day at Caulfield with
ease. Jumping away well from barrier 12, Under the Floor was
settled in the second half of the field behind the speedy Ablazing and Redoute's
Roses.
Ridden by Damien Oliver, Under the Floor was covering a little extra ground
out wide with cover. Once Oliver made his move on Under the Floor they
moved up quickly as they cornered with Danger Looms and Ready to Mombo just
behind him. Once Oliver got the spilt at the 250m, Under the Floor raced
away to score a very soft win by 2-1/4 lengths from Danger Looms (Dangerous -
Diamonds Forever by At Talaq) with Ready to Momb (More than Ready - Miss Mombo
Queen by Kingmambo) a head away in third.
Owned by another big Slade Bloodstock syndicate who purchased Under the
Floor from the 2004 Inglis Classic yearling sale from the Emirates Park
draft for $45,000.
Under the Floor's (ex Courteous by Affirmed) victory was very
impressive and he will keep improving.
January 31st, 2005
Secret Savings three-year-old daughter, Love And Money
was too strong for the boys in the W. H. Buchanan Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm
on Saturday.
Love And Money (ex Cherished by Citidancer) crossed the line
three-quarters-of-a-length ahead of Rast Sim (Lion Hunter - Mistsar
by Tsarbaby) with race favourite Fleet Baron (Afleetaffair - Baron's
Fault by Imperial Baron) a long neck away in third.
In chalking up her third career win from eight starts, Love And Money
took her earnings past $94,000.
November 14th, 2004
At Eagle Farm on Saturday, Jazz Fund was rewarded for his
consistency scoring in the Luminia Class 6 Handicap (1200m).
Jumping away well from barrier five, Carl Spry settled Jazz Fund
behind the early speed on the rails enjoying a nice run. As the field
straightened for home Spry elected to stay on the rail and wait for a run on the
fence and when it came in the last 100m Jazz Fund carried his 58kgs to
victory comfortably.
Jazz Fund (ex Karioi Dixie by Karioi Prince) had a neck on Tudor
Quest (Spectrum - Dolly Will Do by Rubiton) with Naderoz (Danzero -
Willow Flight by Alquoz) a short-head away third.
June 15th, 2004
At Flemington on Saturday Secret Savings sired the winner of the
opening and last race on the tough winter program.
In the opening race on the card, the Hilton Nicholas Handicap (1400m), Tantat
Secret kept his perfect record in tact scoring his third win from as
many starts.
Tantat Secret, carried equal top weight of 58kgs jumping away
from barrier 2 and ridden by Nick Ryan, who elected to stay next to the inside
rail down the Flemington straight.
Tantat Secret (ex My Juliet by Canny Lad) enjoyed a good run
and raced to the lead inside the 200m and was going strongly to score a long
neck win over Captain Zero (Danzero - Currabahah by Northern Spring) with
a half-neck back to Tara's Halls (Racer's Edge - Santa's Vixen by
Kingston Rule) in third.
Honest mare Maybe McLaren (ex Caerleon's Edge by Caerleon),
showed plenty of fight to score in the Geoffrey Levett Handicap (1100m).
In a tight finish, Maybe McLaren only had a nose too spare from
Tessuto (Barathea - Apache Girl by Best Western) with half-length to Run
Just Run (Just Awesome - Dolly Dewdrop by Raffindale) in third.
May 30th, 2004
At Moonee Valley on Saturday, Tantat Secret made it two wins
from two outings in the Metropolitan Hotel Plate (1200m).
Tantat Secret began quite well from barrier two, his young
rider Blake Shinn elected to stay out of the early speed battle with Hollow
Bullet (Tayasu Tsuyoshti - Beat the Bullet) and Marzotto (Perugino -
Dapper's Pride).
Tantat Secret (ex My Juliet by Canny Lad) steadily made ground
from the 600m peg getting into the clear at the 300m. Hollow Bullet
was well clear at the 120m but she started to stop quickly over the final stages
and Tantat Secret came at her strongly to get up right on the line
by a nose.
Three-and-a-quarter lengths back was Dun Mears (Anziyan - The Titan
Strike by Straight Strike) in third, who had got into plenty of trouble early to
run on well in the straight to just grab the tiring Marzotto.
May 23rd, 2004
At Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, Wagstaffe made a successful
return to racing after a long spell in winning the Maildra Series.
Wagstaffe had shown at a recent barrier trial that he would be
competitive first time out with an impressive win, but it was still a big effort
from the five-year-old as he had been off the scene for more than a year.
Wagstaffe (ex Najett by Bletchingly) scored by a half-neck over
Keeping The Faith (My Patriarch by Leap of Faith by Kangaroo) with 1-1/2
lengths back to Andre Marcel (Strategic - Breathless Miss by Mighty
Zephyr) in third.
Wagstaffe set a new class record running 1:04.00 over the 1100m
covering the last 600m in 34.33 seconds.
May 9th, 2004
At Moonee Valley on Saturday the soft going didn't worry Where's Dad's Cash
who stuck his head out at the right time to claim the Tony Hodgson Handicap
(1000m).
Where's Dad's Cash has now won four of his 18 starts and just over $85,000 in
prizemoney and he has shown a liking for Moonee Valley where he has won twice and been placed three times from eight
starts.
Where's Dad's Cash (ex Gourmet Lady by Lunchtime) edged out
popular veteran sprinter Bomber Bill (Air de France - Lady Special by
Alzao) who will attempt to win his second Group One Goodwood Hcp next week
dead-heating with Datari (Toy Pindarri - Datelle by
Consolidate).
March 21, 2004
Shamekha gave Secret Savings his second group one winner
when she won the Coolmore Classic (registered name: NSW Thoroughbred Breeders
Stakes 1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
Prepared by Gai Waterhouse’s and ridden by Jim Cassidy who rode an inspired race to get the
three-year old filly home by half-a-lenght over the outstanding Danehill Dancer mare Private Steer
(ex Lisheenowen by Semipalatinsk) from and the consistent Forum Floozie
(Danasinga - Flying Floozie by Pompeii Court) three-quarters-of-a-length away in
third.
The Coolmore Classic is the only group one race in Australia for fillies and mares
and Waterhouse had Shamekha at her top with just two runs in consecutive weeks after a five
month layoff a fantastic training performance.
Sold for $70,000 at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale Shamekha races in the colours of Emirates Park principal His Excellency Nasser Abdullah Hussain Lootah who raced and stands
Secret Savings at his Murrurundi based stud.
The three-year old bay filly is the third foal of the winning Don’t Say Halo mare Lifetime Story a half
sister to top-class racehorse and sire Brave Warrior (Cossack Warrior).
The day was a success for Secret Savings as he also produced another
two interstate metropolitan winners. In Queensland at Eagle Farm, Jazz
Fun (ex Karioi Dixie by Karioi Prince) won the Australia Self Storage
Handicap (1200m).
Jazz Fund's winning margin was 1-1/2 lengths over Sir Bisc
(Sir Laurence - Melange by Otehi Bay) with Tom Coureuse (Beautiful Crown
- Coureuse by Tierce) in third.
In the meantime at Cheltenham Park in South Australia, Maybe McLaren
(ex Caerleon's Edge by Caerleon) easily won the Smoke-Free Handicap (1000m) by a
1-3/4 lengths.
Secret Savings has five yearlings catalogued for the William Inglis Easter
yearling sale including a full sister to Dash For Cash, a colt from the family of Flying Spur and Encosta de Lago, a full sister to stakeswinner Secret Land, a filly from the
stakes winning Danehill mare Almazyoon, and a half brother to three winners from a half sister to Irish 1000
Gns winner Al Bahathri.
February 15th, 2004
Riverman mare Zaghaareed progeny are on fire at the moment. Her
five-year-old daughter Treasure Time stuck her head out when it
mattered most in the Schweppes Handicap (1260m) at Cheltenham on Saturday.
Treasure Time's win was the second metropolitan victory within
seven days for the Riverman mare, as last week at Morphettville, Zaghaareed's
daughter Subella, also by Secret Savings, comfortably won
the Feltex Classic Carpets Handicap (1050m).
Treasure Time's win was her sixth career victory and took her
earnings past $110,000, a tidy profit for her connections, as Max Lees purchased
Treasure Time from the Inglis Classic sale in 2000 from the
Emirates Park draft for just $32,500.
Subella has also more than paid her way for her connections
earning more than $57,000, as Stuart Gower purchased Subella from
the Magic Millions Adelaide sale in 2001 from the Emirates Park draft for just
$32,000.
Zaghaareed has a three-year old filly also by Secret Savings named Al
Yafil in training with Graeme Rogerson.
February 11, 2004
Four-year-old Secret Savings mare Subella (ex Zaghaareed
by Riverman) landed her fourth win from just 14 starts at the weekend when she
won the Feltex Classic Carpets Handicap (1050m) at Morphettville on Saturday.
Prepared by Stuart Gower, Subella had not raced in five weeks,
however she had recorded an earlier win at the track and distance first-up in

Secret Savings mare Maybe Mclaren, gave her new
part-owner Cheree Buchiw, who had ridden her exclusively to four victories
of her previous seven starts until her horrific race fall where she lost the lower part of her left
leg, a wonderful thrill at Victoria Park on Saturday when she took out the
Stuart Crystal Handicap (1000m) in brilliant fashion.
Maybe Mclaren's owners saw fit to give Buchiw a portion of the mare in recognition for all the work she has done on
her, Jeremy Gask told Sport 927 the morning of the race.
"I think it's a great gesture and Cheree is thrilled. She loves the horse."
At Victoria Park, Maybe Mclaren was partnered by Simon Price,
settling her just off the speed. When Price got to the 200m peg, he kicked
her away from the pack to stride home three-quarters-of-a-length ahead of Prince
Regal (Dehere - Regal Sea by Dahar) with a half-head to Stand By Me
(Umatilla - New Bond by New Regent) in third.
Maybe Mclaren is being set for the G2 Swettenham Stud Stakes
in February, her next start will be in the G3 Irwin Stakes.

Emirates Park young stallion Secret Savings sired a notable double at
Rosehill on Saturday, which included the emphatic victory of Shamekha in
the G2 Tea Rose Stakes (1500m).
Shamekha (ex Lifetime Story by Don't Say Halo) stamped her authority with
a classy 2-1/2 length win. Unearthly (Zabeel - Snippets' Crown by
Snippets) brushed home from the tail of the field for second with Miss Ivy
(Gold Brose - Midori Splice by Last Tycoon) a long-head away in third.
Ridden by Jim Cassidy, who parked the filly behind race leader Sky Cuddle
and when Cassidy gave Shamekha some reign, she rounded the leader up and
streaked away from the field.
Shamekha's next start will be in the G1 Flight Stakes (1600m)
at Randwick on October 4, the final leg of the Princess
Series.
Earlier in the day at Rosehill, Fawaz (ex Gulab by Marscay)
stuck his head out when it mattered most in the Cherry Coke Handicap (2000m).
Fawaz defeated Kreisler Mirage (Kreisler - Imposing
Belle by Imposing) by a nose with Kingston Classic (Kingsttenham - Turf
Classic by Palatable) 1-3/4 lengths back in third.

Emirate Park Stud's Secret Savings is a rising young star in the sire
ranks. His three-year-old daughter Shamekha put up the most impressive
performance on the Randwick card, when she cruised past the top-class General
Nediym filly, Regimental Gal to win the $100,000 Group 3
Furious Stakes by 2-lengths on Saturday.
Shamekha will now try to capture the remainder of the Princess Series
en route to the G1 Victorian Oaks. Having her first start since an
unplaced effort in the G1 Sires' Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm on May 31, Shamekha
trailed the speed set by Regimental Gal (ex Hallaya by Yallah Prince)
then motored home to score a strong win over the Queenslander.
Waterhouse has indicated she would press on with plans to run the Secret
Savings filly in the remaining Princess Series races, the Tea Rose Stakes
(1500m) on September 20 and the G1 Flight Stakes (1600m) on October 4.
Her main mission this spring will be the Victorian Oaks and jockey Jim
Cassidy is confident Shamekha (ex Lifetime Story by Don't Say Halo) has the
stamina to get over ground.
