STALLIONS present a series of profiles on first season sires beginning stud duties this spring.
Amongst them is We Can Seek, who is due to start his career on $8800 (inc gst) at George and Felicity Fraser’s Ilala Stud at Scone in New South Wales.
We Can Seek was named the champion colt for the good quality Chilean circuit at three, his first year of racing. Tough and sound, he ran 11 times that year for four wins, including three group one races (1700m-2200m), and seconds in three other majors, one of them in the Group I Chilean El Derby.
We Can Seek was highly regarded he was added to the increasing flow of South Americans tackling what is arguably the world’s most competitive quality racing region, North America, racing on the New York circuit. On that circuit he finished runner-up in the Group 3 Skip Away Handicap at Florida’s Gulfstream Park, on that occasion he defeated the third horse by five lengths.
The respect for We Can Seek’s ability also saw him clash twice with another South American, subsequent dual World Champion Invasor (Arg), in two group one races in the north, the $750,000 Whitney Handicap and $500,000 Pimlico Special.
Described as an immensely attractive, powerfully built horse, We Can See has a pedigree combining Mr. Prospector and Danzig at the third generation.
A brother to another South American group one performer, he is by Seeker’s Reward, a son of one of the most influential Mr. Prospector sires,
Gone West, and from Weekend Leave, a daughter of the Danzig triple group one winner Polish Navy (also sire of Kentucky Derby winner Sea Hero), and group one performer
Home Leave (by Alydar).
Seeker’s Reward has 21 stakes performers, from a family that has been a goldmine for the production of racing excellence, including
Home Leave being a three-quarter sister to an American group one winner,
Furlough, and a half-sister to two other winners at this level, Dancing Spree
(three group one wins included Breeders’ Cup Sprint) and Fantastic Find (by Mr. Prospector).
They are all from the Riva Ridge mare Blitey, a group two winner and group one placed daughter of one of the best Sword Dancer fillies, Lady Pitt.
We Can Seek stands along side Amalfi, Classic Endeavor, Eagle Rise, Filante, Grand Reve, Honor In War, Oh Oklahoma, Sippin’ Bourbon, Techrico
and Vice Admiral.
