Strategic sired his 20th individual stakes winner last Wednesday, June 24, when his son Strat’s Flyer landed the $100,000 Listed Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford.
Settling towards the rear under apprentice Daniel Ganderton, the five-year-old gelding flew home along the inside rail to win the 1200m contest by a length-and-a-half. Strat’s Flyer has now won on six occasions and has been placed a further 11 times.
Bred by F J Kelly Trust, Strat’s Flyer is out of the Hennessy mare Scot’s Flyer who is also dam of the stakes-winning filly Bauble. Scot’s Flyer is currently in foal to fellow Darley stallion and World Champion three-year-old Bernardini.
Strategic, is based in Victoria at Darley’s Northwood Park stud again this season after covering a massive book of 148 mares in his first season at the property last spring. He is one of a few stallions that has not had his fee revised downwards at $16,500 (inc GST). The sire of three G1 winners Meurice, Mistegic and Strategic News, and a further seven group winners and a proven source of winners week in and week out hence his popularity with breeders.
