Choisir continued on with his great season at Randwick on Saturday when Magic Model claimed a last stride win in the Still An Inspiration Hcp (1400m). Trained at Rosehill by David Payne, Magic Model was having her second start this campaign after scoring at her home track over 1400m in an open 2YO Hcp (1400m). Stripping fitter, and given a sweet ride by Glyn Schofield, Magic Model travelled off the speed as the well tried Gigas (Dubai Destination – Pinwherry by Selkirk) took them along at a muddling tempo.
Schofield allowed her to corner wide and the bay hit top gear in the closing stages to grab Gigas and score by a short half-head.
Payne told TVN ‘s Richard Callendar that he would give Magic Model a short break and prepare her for the first Group I of the new season the Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on August 29th.
A little over an hour later Choisir’s three-year-old son, Dreamscape (ex Faith In Dreams by Ferdinand), returned from a spell with an all-the-way effort in the Jim Beam Hcp (1200m).
Winner of last springs’ Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1400m), Dreamscape took his record to three wins from five starts. Bred by his owners’ Gooree Pastoral Company, Dreamscape descends from a family that’s produced the champion stallion Sadler’s Wells. Still a colt if Dreamscape continues to build on his record he’ll be an appealing stallion prospect in the future.
Choisir is enjoying a great 2008-09 season with nine stakes winners, 10 stakes placegetters on his resume. With 96 individual winners from his 200 plus starters, Choisir, has produced 10 individual juvenile winners this season including the stakes winning Choistar (ex Sveldte by Star Watch) Listed AJC Fernhill Hcp (1600m), Horizons (ex Ubiquity by Hurricane Sky) Listed AJC Widden Stakes (1100m) and Kid Choisir (ex Friendly Seas by Mister C) Listed WATC Supremacy Hcp (1100m).
A son of Danehill Dancer and the Lunchtime mare, Selection, Choisir is one of the very few stallions that had his fee increased from last year’s rate of $33,000 (inc gst) to $35,750 (inc gst) this season.
