Talented juvenile Denman has booked himself a berth in next month’s Group 1 $1 million Golden Rose Stakes after a very easy win in the MVRC Purrealist Inglis Bonus (1200m) at Sandown on the Lakeside course.
The brown two-year-old colt, who started as the punters elect, jumped well from his wide barrier, 14, under Victoria’s premier rider, Craig Williams. Caught out wide he travelled on the speed. Williams, had the colt relaxed and he elected to push forward and control the race, a winning move.
From then on none of his rivals stood a chance as Williams rated the colt beautifully and kept him focused to score a very easy victory.
Denman was coming off an outstanding win at Flemington on good ground when he raced off the speed. On Saturday he showed that special ‘x’ factor good horses have. Adapting well under his rider, he simply had too much class for this grade.
Owned by Sheikh Mohammed, Denman is by Darley’s Lonhro out of the Vain mare, Peach a wonderful producer, being the dam of Preserve (by Canny Lad) winner of the Group I VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes and her full sister, Rio Osa, winner of the Listed Scone Dark Jewel Classic and the Listed VRC Festival of Racing Stakes.
The pedigree has plenty of black type including the Group I Golden Slipper winner, Dark Eclipse (by Baguette).
Lonhro is having a wonderful season and currently sits in second spot with his progeny earning $2.1 million on the Leading Second Crop sires of Season list behind his barn mate, Exceed and Excel ($3.2million), and only $26,000 more than another barn mate, Reset ($2.1milion) in third spot.
