Racing in New South Wales was held at Rosehill on Saturday and the eight race card featured the Listed Winter Stakes (1500m), sponsored by Sydney Banana Wholesalers, and the event was taken out in emphatic style by Strat’s Flyer.

Strat’s Flyer had been very unluckly beaten two weeks earlier at the course in the Listed Civic Stakes (1400m) when held up for the length of the straight.  On Saturday, with Hugh Bowman in the saddle again, history didn’t repeat and Bowman ensured the five-year-old chestnut son of Strategic had plenty of room to take out his second stakes event within three weeks by 2-1/4 lengths.

Bay Window (Nothin’g Leica Dane - Vicajemi by White Bridle) tried hard but was no match in the end and collected the $20,000 runners-up cheque for his connections.  Mr Unforgettable (Rubiton - La Marama by Luskin Star) was another length-and-a-half away third.

Strat’s Flyer a $75,000 Inglis Classic purchase in 2005 was bred by the F J Kelly Trust and is out of Scot’s Flyer (by Hennessy), who only raced once.  He is her second stakes performer with the other being Bauble (by Hurricane Sky), Listed MVRC Alexandra Stakes.    The family is a little light on for black type performers in the next couple of generations, however, in the fifth remove the wonderful Caulfield Cup hero, Sobar (by Sobig) appears as does the Group 1 SAJC Derby winner, Tasman (by Sir Tristram) and the Group I South Australian Oaks winner, Ramyah (by Raami).

The win by Strat’s Flyer was his seventh at his 27th career start and now has earnings of more than $430,000.

His sire, Strategic, stands at Darley’s  Northwood Park stud in Victoria at a fee of $16,500 (inc GST), was heavily used by breeders in the state being a consistent source of winners.  He is also the sire of Group One winners Meurice, Mistegic and Strategic News along with this seasons VRC Group 3 Danehill stakes, winner Aichi.
