Although he’s the cheapest horse on the roster at Coolmore with an advertised fee of just $8800, dual Gr.1 winner Aussie Rules (USA) certainly took the eye at the stud’s open day on Friday.
In a roster dominated by the likes of twice Champion Australian Sire Encosta de Lago, Dylan Thomas (IRE), Fastnet Rock, Tale of the Cat (USA), Danehill Dancer (IRE) and his son Choisir, the grey Aussie Rules drew plenty of admiring glances and it wasn’t just his “rocking horse” dapples and relaxed attitude that won him fans, because this handsome fellow could also gallop.

Aussie Rules (Danehill - Last Second by Alzao) stands for a fee of $8800 (inc gst)

Aussie Rules (Danehill (USA)-Last Second by Alzao (USA)) won twice at two including the valuable Somerville Tattersall’s Stakes-Gr.3 (7f) and then came out the following season to win the French 2000 Guineas-Gr.1 (1600m) and then beat the best older turf performers in the US, winning the Shadwell Turf Mile-Gr.1 at Keeneland. He’s been well supported in his two southern seasons, covering 76 mares in 2007 and 82 last year and he is producing great looking offspring.
Last Second, the dam of Aussie Rules, was pretty smart on the track too and won four races including the Nassau Stakes-Gr.2 and Sun Chariot Stakes-Gr.2 and this daughter of Alzao (Lyphard) is from the Crystal Palace (Caro) mare Alruccaba. Next dam Allara is by Zeddaan. This is the family of Nasrullah and NZ’s wonder broodmare Eight Carat (GB), with Aussie Rules having the flying filly Mumtaz Mahal as his eighth dam, little wonder he showed so much pace on the track.
