Hussonet’s son Weekend Hussler maybe on the easy list this spring but the stallion could still have a number of representatives in the feature events during the spring and one of those could well be the expensive colt Hus Der Lieften after his solid win in the Rosebud Inglis Bonus (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
The bay colt was offered for sale by Arrowfield Stud at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when he was knocked down for $1.2million to Tony Bott of Evergreen Stud Farm.
Bott has entrusted his valuable purchase to Rosehill trainer Gerald Ryan, who told TVN’s Richard Haynes “He’s shown me heaps from the very first gallop.”
Hus Der Lieften, hasn’t disappointed.
Running second at his racetrack debut at Randwick on the inner Kensington track at the begining of May, he then broke his maiden at Rosehill at the end of that month. On Saturday, with a new rider in the saddle, Nash Rawiller, the colt settled just behind the pace and when Rawiller asked him for his effort, Hus Der Lieften finished the race off strongly to score by half-a-length from Stryker (Fastnet Rock - Laetitia by Woodman).
The stakes placed Romanus (Encosta de Lago - Bulla Borghese by Belong to Me) was another two lengths away in third.
“Tony Bott has taken his time with him. Today I thought he needed the run, we haven’t been over hard on him. That win convinced me today that he could be the real deal. It is exciting, he is a nice horse and they paid a lot of money for him,” Ryan told Haynes.
Hus Der Lieften is out of unraced Sunday Silence mare Sunday Valentine which makes him a half-brother to the Group 2 VRC Edward Manifold winner El Daana (by Redoute’s Choice). Sunday Valentine is a half-sister to the stakes placed Musigny (by Reset) and descends from a family that’s produced plenty of black type in America and South Africa.
Hus Der Lieften will now be set for the Group I Golden Rose at the same track at the end of the month, August 29th.
His sire Hussonet (Mr Prospector ex Sacahuista by Raja Baba) stands at Arrowfield Stud and his fee this spring is $71,500 (inc gst).
