The final days’ trade in the Deauville sales ring hosted some spirited bidding on day 4 of the August Yearling Sale. The average price for the 112 horses sold progressed to reach €46,250 while the clearance rate was stable at 77%. Turnover for the day (including 10 private sales concluded outside the sales ring but reported
to the sales company) was €5,419,000, marginally down from 2008.
There was an impressive diversity on the score sheet, with French purchasers coming to the fore and
international professionals including Peter Doyle, Charles Gordon-Watson, Will Edmeades and Gill Richardson still signing the docket, a feature that reflects the higher standard of horses throughout the
four days of sale.
Highlights of day 4:
Lot 391 - the top lot of the day, being knocked down for €140,000 to Alain Decrion. This filly by Enrique is a half-sister to ZAGORA, who won first time out in great style at Deauville just a few days before the sale. She was consigned by Haras des Capucines.
Lot 357, from Haras de la Louvière, realised €135,000 on the bid of Paul Nataf.  By Medicean, this filly is the second foal of the smart SANDSNOW, who ran 3rd in the Prix Panacée (L.) and 4th in the Gr.3 Prix d’Aumale.
Lot 380, a Nayef colt from Haras du Petit Tellier fetched €105,000 and went the way of Marc- Antoine Berghgracht’s MAB Agency.
Lot 360 was knocked down for €100,000 to Chantilly-based trainer Nicolas Clément. Consigned by Haras de la Pérelle, this grey colt is the second foal out of Saudade, a daughter of Linamix from the family of GENTLEWAVE, and hails from Shirocco’s first crop.
