Lonhro three-year-old colt Demerit posted an excellent win in the Group 3 Guineas Prelude at Caulfield on Saturday.
A stakes-placegetter at his debut in May this year, the Peter Snowden-trained colt resumed from a spell two weeks earlier when he recorded a facile four-length victory to break his maiden.
Ridden by Mark Zahra, for Sheikh Mohammed, Demerit settled midfield where he was posted three deep without cover.

Demerit proved too strong for the quality field and held on gamely from the fast-finishing Trusting (Tale of the Cat ex Legible by Zabeel) who came from last.
AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes victor Manhattan Rain (Encosta de Lago ex Shantha’s choice by Canny Lad) held on well to finish a neck away third after settling just off race leader Carlton Forward.
TVN’s Bruce Clark spoke with Paul Snowden after the event “There was no fluke in what he has done today, he had no luck and still was too good,” Paul said.
Zahra spoke with Clark and said Demerit was “still a bit new to the game”.
“He switches on and off. We thought he might come out and drop the bit and slot in behind them but it didn’t work out that way.”
Bred by Woodlands Stud, Demerit is a three-quarter brother to the Group 1-placed Evander (by Octagonal) and is one of three winners for the Scenic mare Shame, herself a dual Group I winner.
Demerit  has some of mums white markings with two white front joints and a small star on his head.
Demerit may not join his stable mate, Denman also by Lonhro, in the Group I Caulfield Guineas instead he may be set for the Group I Ascot Vale Stakes (1200m) on Derby day at Flemington, October 31st.
