Lonhro’s outstanding son Denman continued on his winning ways at Randwick today, 26 September, in recording an impressive win in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes at Randwick.

The handsome dark brown colt, so reminiscent of his sire, was forced to set the pace early on in the 1400m contest, before settling in second position behind El Sonador. With 300m left to run, Kerrin McEvoy made his move, kicking clear of the field and despite a late surge from Run For Naara, won more easily than the three-quarters of a length margin would suggest.

Speaking after the race, trainer Peter Snowden said, “It wasn’t the way to ride the horse but in this kind of race we had no option, we had to be positive and make our own luck.”

“He is a far better horse if he sits off them, goes through his gears and drops them late, you’ll see a different horse. What he did today was just talent, when he is ridden the right way you will see a special win.”

Denman (ex Peach by Vain) will now head to Caulfield for the Guineas (1600m) in two weeks time, where he will aim to win his second Group 1  following his victory in the Golden Rose last month.

Lonhro, currently leading sire in Australia, has sired four individual Black type winners already this season including Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes winner O’Lonhro and Group 3 winners Deer Valley and Demerit.
