The Hong Kong Jockey Club has approved a proposal that the Cathay Pacific International Trial races be opened up to international competition.
The three races, which will this year be run on 15 November (Cup Trial, 2000m) and 22 November (Sprint Trial, 1200m and Mile Trial, 1600m) are all HK Group 2 races, designed as lead up events for the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International races (CXHKIR), which will as usual be run on the second Sunday in December.
Horses trained outside Hong Kong will only be eligible to run in the Trials if invited by the CXHKIR Selection Panel, and only horses which are guaranteed an invitation to run in the Hong Kong International Races will be considered for selection. In addition, the maximum number of overseas-trained horses invited to run in each of the trials will be four.
