Melbourne Cup favourite Efficient is out of the ‘race that stops a nation’ .Trainer John Sadler and Efficient’s owner Lloyd Williams will not be paying the final acceptance fee of $45,000 for the Group I Melbourne Cup (3200m).
The grey son of Zabeel was fabulous when he won the Group I Turnbull Stakes at Flemington last month.  Unfortunately for Sadler and Williams, Efficient didn’t pull up in first class order after the win and the stable have been  managing ’issues’ with him.  Racing Victoria Ltd Stewards spoke to radio Sport 927 on Saturday morning informing listners that his owner Lloyd Williams wasn’t prepared to risk his star galloper and he would not be amongst the final acceptances later today.
Another horse that won’t be lining up in the Melbourne Cup is Kirklees.    The Godolphin owned galloper was inspected by his trainer Saeed bin Suroor on Saturday morning and he too has informed Stewards that Kirkless will not be amongst the final acceptances for the Cup.
Final acceptances for the Melbourne Cup are taken at 5pm Saturday, October 31st, with the barrier draw to follow at Flemington upon the completion of the Derby day card.
