Darley Stud’s young stallion, Shamardal, had a day out in Australia on Saturday with an interstate stakes winning double.
Shamardal, one of last season’s leading first-season sires, recorded two black type winners within minutes of each other when his juvenile colt Run For Wilson landed the Listed NSW Breeders Plate  (1000m) on his racecourse debut at Randwick.   Just fifteen minutes later, Shamoline Warrior showed he was right on track for the Group I VRC Derby won last year by his half-brother Rebel Raider (by Reset), with a first class win in the Listed UCI Stakes (1800m) at Flemington.

Run For Wilson, owned by Nathan Tinkler’s Patinack Farm,  became Shamardal’s (Giant’s Causeway ex Helsinki by Machiavellian) first Australian Stakes winner when he flew down the outside to record a length-and-three-quarters victory in the Listed NSW Breeders Plate over 1000m.   Making the result event sweeter for Darley was the runner-up cheque was lifted by Jigsaws, also by Shamardal, and owned by the stud’s prinicpal Sheik Mohammed.  Jigsaws (ex Picture Puzzle  by Gone West), is the first black type earner for his dam a  sister to Came Home, winner of the Grade 1 Pacific Classic at Del Mar in America.
In doing so both gave Shamardal a valuable juvenile black-type quinella.
Run For Wilson, was bred by Mr D Parker, and is out of the multiple metropolitan winner Ocean Bridge (by Dolphin Street), and was selected for Patinack by the studs Bloodstock Manager, Rick Connolly from the Inglis Melbourne Premier sale when he paid $22,500.00 for the brown colt.

Shamoline Warrior was bred by Toorak Park Stud and he is another yearling out of the Inglis Melbourne Premier sale.  He was selected by his trainer Mark Kavanagh for the Delbridge Racing syndicate, managed by Mark Leo.  Out of Picholine (Dehere), not only is he a half-brother Rebel Raider, they descend from a family that’s produced the Listed winners Brief Kiss (by Brief Truce), A Little Kiss (b Sackford), and Hong Kong Group I Champions Mile winner, Able One (by Cape Cross).
As a racehorse, Shamardal was crowned Champion two-year-old in Europe, following his dominating victory in the Group One Darley Dewhurst Stakes. He went on to win three further Group One contests in his classic season, winning all three starts, being the Group I French Guineas and French Derby before he ran away with the Group I St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
He has been well supported by breeders in both hemispheres and stands at Darley’s Kelvinside property in  New South Wales for a fee of $27,500 (inc gst).
