Racing and BreedingClare Lindop will be looking to add a little more ‘girl power’ to the Caulfield carnival after Michelle Payne’s maiden group one victory in the Group I Toorak Hcp on Allez Wonder last Saturday when she rides Majestic Music in the Group I Schweppes Thousand Guineas on Wednesday.
Lindop recorded her maiden Victorian group one win aboard Rebel Raider in last year’s VRC Derby for popular South Australian-based trainer Leon Macdonald.
Majestic Music goes into the Guineas after a solid win in the VRC Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington and has drawn barrier seven in the 14-strong feature at Caulfield.
Macdonald will have a strong hand in the $503,000 feature also saddling up Miss With Attitude (barrier four) with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle, as he looks for another Thousand Guineas heroine after saddling up Serious Speed in 2007.
Redoute’s Choice progeny have a wonderful strike rate at Caulfield; not only is he the sire of Saturday’s Toorak Hcp winner, Allez Wonder, his daughter Gallica won the 1000 Guineas last year and his son God’s Own won the Caulfield Guineas in 2005. On Wednesday he will have Melito (barrier five) and Sister Madly (barrier two) running for him.
Another stallion with multiple runners is Fastnet Rock; he has race favourite Irish Lights (barrier eight) and Jolie Brise (barrier three) gunning for him as the Coolmore resident searches for his first winner at the elite level.
My Emotion (barrier 12), Silent Surround (one), Fomalite (10), Mont Fleuri (nine), Music in the Park (14), Faint Perfume (13), Johanski (11) and Lamichi (six) round out the feature.
The rail remains in the true position and the ground is currently rated as ’good’ with a rating of number 3.
