The best racehorses in training will contest the $500,000 Group I Turnbull Stakes the feature event on a nine race card where only quality will rise to the top and be able to claim a prize on Saturday at Flemington.
Every race on the card is either a Group or Listed event with last seasons Emirates Melbourne Cup winner Viewed (Scenic - Lovers Knot by Khozaam) trained by Bart Cummings to carry saddle cloth number one in the Turnbull.
Another Cup winner, Efficient (Zabeel - Refused the Dance by Defensive Play) along with Cox Plate winners Maldivian (Zabeel - Shynzi by Danzig) and El Segundo (Pins - Palos Verdes by Oak Ridge) add spice to the event. As does the 2007 Caulfield Cup winner Master O’Reilly (O’Reilly - Without Remorse by Bakharoff) and they will all test the form of the two four-year-olds Predatory Pricer (Street Cry - Shady Stream) and Roman Emperor (Montjeu - Gussy Godiva by Last Tyocon).
The nine race card offers more than $1.8 million in prize money and it includes the Group 2 $201,500 Blazer Stakes (1400m), $251,500 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) and $251,500 Gilgai Stakes (1200m), continuing the VRC’s proud tradition of providing first class racing.
“The Victoria Racing Club is proud to herald in spring racing at Flemington with such a high-quality racing program. The statistics tell the story: eight Group 1 winning horses and a combined $27.5 million in prize money amongst the runners in the Turnbull Stakes alone,” said Dale Monteith, VRC Chief Executive.
