Melbourne, Vic  (November 20, 2009) – The family fortunes of Rich Hill Stud’s young stallion prospect Sir Percy (Mark of Esteem - Percy’s Lass by Blakeney) were recently given a boost in Ireland when the promising colt Mikhail Glinka posted a runaway victory in the Listed Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown. The three-year-old made it two wins from four appearances when he coasted away with the 1800 metre event.
Prepared by Ireland’s champion trainer Aidan O’Brien, the son of Galileo was purchased for 250,000 guineas as a yearling and is raced by Susan Magnier, wife of Coolmore Stud supremo John. Mikhail Glinka is out of the Mark Of Esteem mare Lady Karr, a sister to dual Gr 1 winner Sir Percy, who is in his first covering season at Rich Hill Stud in New Zealand.
The Epsom Derby-Dewhurst Stakes hero has been well received by breeders in New Zealand and with his unique blend of speed, stamina and pedigree.
Sir Percy has covered some quality mares this spring including Miss Sandman (dam of four-time Gr 1 winner and leading young sire Show A Heart), Liberty Song (dam of Gr 1 Spring Champion Stakes winner Sousa), Blazing Bridles (dam of Gr 3 Cambridge Breeders’ Stakes winner Geeza), Ledahead (dam of Gr 3 Waikato Guineas winner Easy Ryder), Recce (dam of Australian stakes winner and sire Grand Reve), Goodness Me (dam of Gr 3 winner Deprivation), Dear Diary (dam of Listed Northland Breeders’ Stakes winner Pocket Diary), Palace Lady (dam of Gr 3 Gold Trail Stakes winner Molly Dot Com and stakes performer Mary Ellen), multiple winner Our Tristajet (dam of stakes-performed sprinter Magic Tryst) and Our Sophie (dam of multiple winner Soph).
Also among Sir Percy’s court are Gr 2 Matamata Breeders’ Stakes winner Flying Babe, Gr 1 NZ Oaks runner-up Filante Etoile, Gr 3 White Robe Lodge Stakes winner Perceptible and Listed Otago Breeders’ Stakes winner Smitten Kitten.
