Melbourne - Vic (November 17, 2009) - Racing in Hong Kong stepped into carnival mode last Sunday when the HKJC celebrated its 125th anniversary raceday in style at Sha Tin with the running of the Anniversary Cup.
   The Anniversary Cup produced a thrilling finish with Always Something (ex Mi Gazelle by Mi Preferido), ridden by Douglas Whyte on his 38th birthday, got up in the final strides to deny the odds-on favourite, Taverner (Flying Spur - Atom Angel by Defensive Play). 
   Under the care of John Size Always Something is buliding a very good record with just five career starts todate the brown son of Black Minnaloushe has won three of them with more than AU$200,000 in the bank.   Not a bad return on investment considering  Always Something (formerly known as Calk) was sold at the 2007 William Inglis Classic Yearling Sale for just $45,000. 
   Thirty minutes earlier, Collection (ex Lasting Chance by American Chance) threw down the gauntlet to the world’s best horses when he guns for the homeside in the International  Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup December 13, with an awesome display in International Cup Trial.   
   The winner of last season’s Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Derby Collection was highly impressive taking the event by two lengths from Unique Jewellery (O’Reilly - Aulide by Snippets).  
  Trained by John Moore, Collection was handled by Weichong Marwing, after the stable rider Darren Beadman chose to ride Moore’s other runner Viva Pataca.    Marwing settled Collection midfield behind a steady pace and cut loose on the Peintre Celebre gelding just before the turn for home to took command at the furlong. 
   Collection is out of Lasting Chance (by American Chance) and hails from a family that’s produced the outstanding Rachel Alexandra (by Medaglia d’Oro).
