Racing and BreedingMelbourne - Vic (November 25, 2009) - Impressive metropolitan wins by Umanugget and Spirited Eagle gave their Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale bound yearlings a pedigree boost last weekend.Half relations to both winners will be offered for auction at the Gold Coast which gets away with Session One on January 6.
A half-sister to Spirited Eagle, the Wolf Blass owned winner of the Sportingbet Plate (1000m) at Morphettville, is heading north. Trained by the partnership of Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas, Spirited Eagle beat the favourite Cloud Buster (Galileo) by a long neck in a driving finish.
The two-year-old son of Not a Single Doubt was purchased by renowned Adelaide based bloodstock agent Adrian Hancock for $85,000 at this year’s sale. Arrowfield Stud, who sold Spirited Eagle, will present her half sister by Hussonet at the 2010 sale in January.
Catalogued as lot number 531, the filly is the latest yearling from the city winning Carnegie mare Rezidencia - a half sister to three stakes gallopers including Society Beau.
In the opening race at Sandown, The Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond 1st Acceptance Hcp (1400m ), saw an impressive win posted by Umanugget (by Mossman).
In leading home a Peter Moody quinella Umanugget chalked up his second career victory at his 11-start and impressed his supporters with a brilliant win - racing away to score by a widening length-and-a-quarter margin.
“I got it wrong in the spring and trained him to stay,” Moody reported. “It took me a few runs to work it out.”
“His form showed he was pretty superior to these.”
Winning rider Jason Maskiell was impressed with how Umanugget sprinted when asked for in the straight.
“He relaxed perfect in the run and hit the line really nice,” he noted.
Yarramalong Park have a half-brother to Umanugget, by red hot Glenlogan Park based sire Falvelon, heading to the sale.
A chestnut, like Umanugget, the colt has been catalogued as lot number 904 and will offered during the fifth session of the famous sale on Sunday, January 10.
