Lightly-raced filly Trim continued a spectacular Spring carnival for the Darley stallions when she won the Listed TCL Electronics Stakes (registered name: Red Roses) on Oaks Day at Flemington providing the stud with two stakes trifectas on the day.
Trim was resuming from a spell and had gone into the Red Roses event without a trial under her belt. She showed that she has class - as the race was a strong event down the famous straight six course.
Trim had won at her debut in April and travelled north to Queensland for the Winter carnival where she picked up black type placings. Her subsequent return to racing this spring was delayed when she hurt herself in the sand roll so her trainer, Peter Snowden, was pleasantly surprised that she was able to put away the Red Roses in good fashion under the circumstances.
Ridden by stable jockey, Kerrin McEvoy, Trim jumped from an outside barrier and found cover. She responded quickly when asked to beat Marquardt (Shamardal - Centrefold Angel by Centaine) by half-a-length. The early leader, Cinecitta (Exceed and Excel - Malagra Miss by Barathea) held on well for third.
Trim races in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed and was bred by Woodlands Stud. She is out of the Group 3 winning Night Shift mare Firm who hails from the family that’s produced the Group 3 winners Desuetude (by Strategic), Sustaad (by Kaapstad) and Faithful Thought (by Water Mill).
Trim is likely to have a summer spell and is the fifth stakes winner for her sire Lonhro this season, joining Denman, Demerit, Deer Valley and O’Lonhro.
