Melbourne - Vic (November 15, 2009) - Nine Tales broke through for his first stakes victory when proving too strong in the Group 3 MRC Race Tech Stakes (registered name: Sandown Stakes) over 1500 metres at Sandown on Saturday.
Trained at Caulfield by Mick Price, Nine Tales was coming off a good runners-up effort in the Sale Cup behind Bolle.  Well supported by punters, Nine Tales settled midfield under Craig Newitt before finding the line strongly to score by three-quarters-of-a-length over the tough on pace gelding, Jungle Ruler (Lion Hunter - Calista by Zeditave) with Itsamonty (Kenny’s Best Pal - Montenique by Noalcholic), who ran on strongly late for third a nose away.
“We all needed that, me, the owner, the jockey, the breeders, all of us,” Price told TVN’s Richard Callander.
“He’s just an honest gelding. That’s about his level.
“I thought he (Nine Tales) deserved a nice race like this. He broke a run of outs for the trainer at the same time which is terrific.”

Price said Nine Tales would head to the spelling paddock with races at a similar level to be targeted next preparation.
Perhaps a race like the Victoria Handicap, a Group Three over 1400 metres on his home track could be a winnable race for him.”
Retained to race by his breeder John Hoare of Devon Park Stud, Nine Tales has won six of 20 starts earning in excess of $230,000 in prizemoney and is from Silk, a half-sister by Barathea to stakes-winner Bislotto.
Silk has a yearling colt by Rock of Gibraltar, but no foal this year as she missed last season.
Nine Tales is the 59th overall stakes winner for Tale of the Cat and his 15th Australian stakes winner and the second this season in Australia for the son of Storm Cat, whose top class son Gio Ponti ran a brave second to the superstar mare Zenyatta in the Group One Breeders Cup Classic last weekend.  Tale of the Cat (ex Yarn by Mr Prospector) stands at Coolmore’s base in New South Wales for a fee of $38,500 (inc gst)
