Melbourne - Vic (November 15, 2009) - Consistent filly Marquardt is heading home to Sydney for a nice summer holiday after taking out the  Snowhite Stakes at Sandown on Saturday.
A member of the Patinack team, the bay, by Darley’s young stallion Shamardal, claimed a very soft win in the Twilight Glow Stakes 1400m (registered name).
Ridden by Blake Shinn, for owner Nathan Tinkler, Marquardt settled off the speed and enjoyed a nice run behind the speed set by her stable mate Happy Hippy (Shamardal - Springburn by Soviet Lad).

Marquardt proved far too strong for her rivals under hands and heels riding by Shinn to score over Europa Point (Rock of Gibraltar - Gambei by Dehere) with Happy Hippy running out of her skin to claim a valuable black type placing in third.
Trained in Sydney by John Thompson, from Tinkler’s Warwick Farm base, Marquardt had earned black type as a juvenile when a very close second in the Group 2 STC Magic Night Stakes.
A lovely type, Marquardt will mature again and will be one to follow next Autumn, she is out of the Centaine mare Centrefold Angel, a half-sister to the Ballarat Cup winner McGuane (by McGinty).  She was bred by Little Avondale Trust, who sold her at New Zealand’s Premier Yearling Sale for $100,000.
Later the same day on the other side of the world in France, Shamardal two-year-old Zazou (ex Zaza Top by Lomitas) finished third in the final Group One event of the European turf season, the Criterium de Saint-Cloud.
Zazou was having his sixth career start, and he is building a good record with two wins and three placings.  The black type placing will give his female line a boost.  It’s a family that has ties with Australia as the German bred colt hails from a family that has produced the Northern Dancer stallion Danzatore and the Group I AJC Flight Stakes winner, Danarani (by Danehill).
