It’s a day where the very best horses in training compete and few wins are easy.  But the win by Typhoon Tracy in the Group I Myer Classic (registered name: Empire Rose)  at Flemington on Saturday was amazing.
Typhoon Tracy had beaten the mares, when she was a ‘girl’ last season; that was when she made all in the Group I Coolmore Classic (registered name: TAD  Kennedy Stakes) with a light weight.  Now a four-year-old she had 56.5kilos against some of the very best mares in the land.  The field featured the Group I winning Neroli and Zarita, the promising Hot Danish and in-form six-year-old Lady Lynette.   Sent out as the punters’ elect, Typhoon Tracy began brilliantly under Luke Nolen.

A battle for the early lead then unfolded with Jolie’s Shinju, Gold Water and Typhoon Tracy in a line of three.  Nolen asked Typhoon Tracy to steady and she did, taking a sit in third with Hot Danish behind her.
Rounding the home corner Nolen allowed Typhoon Tracy to stride to the front and she lengthened out to leave her rivals standing!
Typhoon Tracy’s winning margin was 4-3/4 lengths.
Lady Lynette (Ladoni - Queen’s Own by Coronation Day) finished the race off well to pick up the valuable group one runners’ up position, with Zarita (Pentire ex Gin Player by Defensive Play)  another three-quarters-of-a-length away in third.
The win, Typhoon Tracy’s seventh from just 10 starts, was the second leg of a Group 1 double for trainer Peter Moody and jockey Luke Nolen.
The pair combined earlier in the day to win the $500,000 Coolmore Stud Stakes (registered name: Ascot Vale Stakes 1200m) with three-year-old filly Headway (Charge Forward - Chatelaine by Flying Spur), by the barest margin.
Moody was fulsome in his praise of the four-year-old daughter of Red Ransom, who will now have a nice rest before being set for the Group I Newmarket Hcp at Flemington next autumn.
Moody told Flemington TV, “trained at these distances, six, seven furlongs or a mile, there’s not many horses in the land that would roll her. She’s something special at that trip,” he said.
She’s one of the horses that makes your job very easy,” he added.
Typhoon Tracy is out of the Group I winning Last Tycoon mare, Tracy’s Element.
Tracy’s Element has built one hell of a record as she is the dam of the stakes winner Red Element, a full brother to Typhoon Tracy, and the stakes placed Kylikwong a full sister to both stakes winners.  An unraced daughter, Traceable (by Rahy), is the dam of the STC Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes winner and young stallion, Shaft (by Flying Spur).
Tracy’s Element is a sister to Towkay (three wins and the Group 3 MVRC C.S. Hayes Stakes), a half-sister to the Group I QTC Stradbroke Hcp winner and successful sire Danasinga (Danehill), Topasannah (six wins including the Group 2 Woolavington Cup in South Africa) and Cullen (four wins including the Group 3 MRC Rubiton Stakes).
Tracy’s Element was no slouch on the track either winning 11 races from 1000m - 1400m with four of those wins at the elite level in South Africa.
Red Ransom (Roberto - Arabia by Damascus) is a great resource for breeders in the southern hemisphere.  He’s free of Northern Dancer, produces stakes winners year-in and year-out, his sons are firing being the sire of Charge Forward and most importantly his stock thrive on our tough, fast racing circuit.  Although he’s getting on in years Red Ransom has retired from shuttling duties so he gets to spend all his time at Vinery Stud in the Hunter Valley where his fee is listed at $66,000 (inc gst).  The breeders down under are lucky to have access to a stallion like him.
