Melbourne, Vic (Jan 6th, 2010) - Darley recently announced the roster for its stallions in Japan and one of Australia’s best stallions, Commands, will be one its nine stallions for the 2010 breeding season.
Commands (ex Cotehele House by My Swanee), a proven Group 1 sire, is enjoying another great season. Although the season is only five months old the son of Danehill has already got four stakes winners on the board with Purple (ex Lady Viola by Zabeel), Rarefied (ex Subtle by Night Shift), First Command (ex River Serenade by Hurricane Sky) and Friday Creek (ex Candles by Al Hareb) showing the way and with another five stakes placegetters and 90 individual winners, he’s well on his way to another record season down under.
Commands descends from one of the world’s best families being a grandson of Eight Carat (by Pieces of Eight) and will stand at a fee of ¥5 million.
Another stallion making his debut in Japan is Pyro (Pulpit - Wild Vision by Wild Again).
Listed as bay or brown, Pyro won five of 17-starts in America that included the Grade 1 Saratoga Forego Stakes (1400m) and also collected the runners-up cheque in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the Belmont Champagne Stakes.
He is the first son of Pulpit (A P Indy - Preach by Mr Prospector) to stand in Japan and offers breeders a pedigree that is free of Sunday Silence blood. Pyro will stand at a fee of ¥2 million.
The third new stallion to stand at Darley’s base in Japan is the Derby winner Deep Sky (Agnes Tachyon - Abi by Chief’s Crown).
In 2008 Deep Sky used his triumph in the NHK Mile Cup as a stepping stone to a breathtaking victory in Japan’s premier Classic, the Derby. He has the female family behind him as well hailing from a family that’s produced a Japan Cup winner in Tap Dance City (by Pleasant Tap), American Grade I winners Chris Evert (by Swoon’s Son), Acorn Stakes, Mother Goose and American Oaks; Classic Crown (by Mr Prospector), Belmont Frizette and Gazelle Stakes; Winning Colors (by Caro), Kentucky Derby and Santa Anita Derby; and, Confessional (by Holy Bull), Belmont Frizette Stakes.
The best son of the outstanding stallion Agnes Tachyon (Sunday Silence - Agnes Flora by Royal Ski), whose death in 2008 was a significant loss to the Japanese bloodstock industry, Deep Sky, will stand his first season at a fee of ¥3.5 million.
John Ferguson, Sheikh Mohammed’s Bloodstock Advisor said,
“The stallion operation in Japan is going from strength to strength. It gives Sheikh Mohammed great satisfaction to be involved in the racing and breeding industry and standing both Commands and Pyro as new international sires for 2010 is proof of Darley’s commitment to the Japanese industry.”
“Sheikh Mohammed is excited by the prospect of racing with an international owner’s licence and would like to take this opportunity to thank the JRA and the Japanese owners and breeders for their support. He is determined to make a positive contribution.”
