Sales NewsMelbourne, Vic (Jan 31st, 2010) - The half-brother to outstanding galloper Scenic Shot will stay in his home state after being purchased for $180,000 during Friday night’s third session of the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale at Belmont. Victorian based bloodstock agent Damon Gabbedy, buying under his Belmont Bloodstock Agency banner, selected the youngster for a local client.
“I thought he was the colt of the sale,” Gabbedy said. “And at the price I thought he was good value.”
“He’s a half brother to a horse who’s won 15 races and $2.5 million - you don’t often get the chance to buy half relations to champions.”
The colt by Victoria Derby winner Blackfriars ( Danehill - Kensington Gardens by Grosvenor) was a member of the quality draft from Gray and Jan Williamson’s Mungrup Stud.
“I purchased the dam Sweepshot in foal to Blackfriars for Mungrup - so it’s nice to be able to buy the colt for a client.”
Sweepshot, a stakes performed and five time winning daughter of Dr Grace, has produced two stakes performers.
As well as the mighty Scenic Shot, Sweepshot is the dam of the Magic Millions 3YO Trophy winner and group placed filly Bletchley Park.
The next top seller at the sale was a full brother to Time to Climb made $120,000.
The Bearcat (Danehill - Fitting by Marscay) colt was purchased by Time to Climb’s buyer, renowned Perth Bloodstock agent John Chalmers.
While leading West Australian trainer Lindsey Smith continued his buying spree at the sale with the purchase of a cracking filly by the Aussie performed Oratorio for $150,000 a few lots later.
