Laguna - NSW (Feb 3rd, 2010) - Beautifully bred young sire Al Samer had his first winner when Custom Design raced away with a juvenile event over 1000m at Tamworth on February 1.
Having her first start, the Paul St Vincent-trained Custom Design defeated  Northern Mark (Youthful Legs) and Regent’s Folly (Magic Albert) by a length and 2-1/4 lengths in 59.01.
Al Samer (Redoute’s Choice-My Lady’s Key by Key to the Mint) won the Canberra Black Opal Stakes-Gr.3 (1200m) at two and the Darby Munro Stakes-LR (1300m) at Rosehill the following season before entering stud at Emirates Park, Victoria in 2006 where he stands at $11,000.
An intensely inbred horse, he has the mare Spring Adieu (Buckpasser-Natalma by Native Dancer) 4fx3f and there are two additional crosses of her half-brother Northern Dancer in the pedigree of his sire Redoute’s Choice.   He is also inbred 4×3 to the brothers His Majesty and Graustark.
Custom Design, who was bred by Emirates Park and sold for $14,000 at the 2008 Inglis First Season Sires Weanling Showcase Sale, is the seventh living foal of Amalee, a daughter of Bletchingly and Celebrity Flight (Luskin Star). Her five winners include stakes placed Lord Danalee (Danewin), while her dam is a half-sister to stakes winner Jewel Flight (Baguette), dam of Gr.1 winner Diamond Shower (Zephyr Zip). Custom Design’s only inbreeding in six removes is a 5mx2f cross to Bletchingly, while her dam is inbred to Star Kingdom (3mx4m) and his grandsire Hyperion (5mx6m,5f).
Al Samer has also been represented by the placegetters Magnetosphere (dam by his relative El Moxie, a grandson of Natalma) and Valsamer (High Regard).
Al Samer has seven yearlings listed for sale at the Inglis Premier yearling sale at Oaklands Junction in March (1st - 4th).
