Melbourne, Vic (Feb 28th, 2010) - Star mare Typhoon Tracy landed her third group 1 race in a row, proving far superior to her five rivals in Saturday’s Futurity Stakes at Caulfield.
Trained at the course by Peter Moody, with regular jockey Luke Nolen in the saddle, Typhoon Tracy went within a whisper of Fields of Omagh’s course record of 1:34.28 stopping the clock at 1:34.43.
Winner of Myer Classic (registered name: Empire Rose (1600m)) at Flemington during the spring the brown mare had resumed with another win at the elite level in the CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield three weeks ago. Also the winner of the group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill during her classic season last autumn and Saturday’s victory took her record to nine wins and two placing’s from 12 starts for prizemoney of more than $1.7 million.
By the recently deceased stallion Red Ransom, she jumped smartly in the 1600m weight-for-age Futurity with Nolen keeping her on a tight hold when Joku wanted to the front and set the quick tempo.
Typhoon Tracy settled nicely in second spot and loomed up on the home turn. When Nolen asked her for an effort she quickly put a space on her rivals and comfortably defeated Dao Dao (Shinko Forest - Casual Way by Casual Lies) and Sniper’s Bullet (Bite the Bullet - Yallah Terrace by Yallah Prince).
”She’s all racehorse,” Moody said.
”When she’s made to work, she produces her best. She’ll have her next start in Sydney.
”There’s a lot of good races here for good prizemoney.”
This year Red Ransom doesn’t have any yearlings catalogued for sale at the Easter or Premier auctions. His sons, Red Dazzler (ex Vain Hill by Danehill) and Charge Forward (ex Sydney’s Dream by Bletchingly) are represented in Victoria at the Premier sale that gets under way on Monday at Oaklands Junction .
