Hong Kong an Option for Star Mare

Melbourne, Vic (Feb 6th, 2010) -  Star mare Typhoon Tracy took the $400,000 Group One Orr Stakes just the way punters had hoped, dominant and soft at Caulfield on Saturday.
Typhoon Tracy is trained at the track by Peter Moody, who said that he might head for Hong Kong with her if she can take out the first leg of the Asian Mile Challenge the Group I Futurity Stakes at the track in three weeks’ time.
Ridden by Luke Nolen, Typhoon Tracy was sent out a short odds-on favourite and allowed the fit Danzylum (Danzero – Political Asylum by Plush) to take up the running and set a moderate pace.  Sitting just off his girth for much of the race she moved up alongside him on the point of the turn. Nolen then asked the four-year-old to sprint for home and she ran a super fast last 600m in 32.86 seconds to win her third race at the elite level by a margin of a length-and-a-half over Heart Of Dreams (Show A Heart – Academy of Dreams by Royal Academy).
Sirmione (Encosta de Lago – World Guide by Defensive Play), made a cracking return to the track after a year on the sidelines, a further head away third.
Moody said that her softest wins could be the mare’s hardest saying, “They did go very easy early which admittedly set the race up for her,”

“But if you look back over her runs it is when she goes out hard and puts a space in the field that she goes on to win by big margins.”

“We will look at the Futurity Stakes now,” Moody said.

Although Moody has a dozen group one events that are suitable for Typhoon Tracy in Australia he is also considering the Asian Mile Challenge series.
The Challenge is comprised of four Group 1 races in Australia, Dubai, Hong Kong and Japan with prize money and bonuses worth US$11.2m.
The second leg, the Dubai Duty Free, is followed by The Champions Mile - the third leg in Hong Kong, and the Challenge winds up in Japan with the running of the Yasuda Kinen.
Nolen suggested that it wasn’t only her motor that was a big asset which helped in Group 1 races.
“She just has a great attitude,” he said.

“You would love to have a barn full of horses with her attitude, not just her ability, but her great manners.”

By the recently deceased Red Ransom, Typhoon Tracy is out of the Group I winning mare, Tracy’s Element (by Last Tycoon) and is a full sister to the stakes winning Red Element. She has won eight times from just eleven starts and has accumulated almost $1.5million in prizemoney.
