Melbourne, Vic (Feb 28th, 2010) - Zavite made it win number nine at his 49th career start when he took out the $100,000 Moonee Valley Night Cup (2500m) on Friday night.
Winner of the 2009 Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) and four other stakes events took his career earnings past $1.1million.
Trained at Caulfield by Anthony Cummings the seven-year-old enjoyed the drop in grade and although he was burdened with top weight of 60kilos and a wide barrier he was able to beat Jeuneys End (Jeune ex Nishani by Military Plume ) by a length with Portland Paije (Portland Pirate ex Enchanting Style by Nassipour) another two lengths away in third.
Zavite is another great advertisement for the William Inglis Easter yearling sale. He was selected by Cummings from the draft of Fairdale Stud in 2004 and cost $80,000.
By New Zealand’s leading sire Zabeel out of the Alleged mare Miss Vita, Zavite is her only black type winner. She descends from a family that has produced the Group I Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Suave Dancer (by Green Dancer).
Inglis have 14 yearlings by Zabeel catalogued for its Easter yearling sale in April, which runs from Tuesday 6th through to Thursday 8th.
