Laguna, NSW (March 22nd, 2010)- High profile Coolmore shuttler Holy Roman Emperor (IRE) (Danehill-l’On Vite by Secretariat) opened his account in the northern hemisphere when first crop juvenile High Award won the first race of the Irish flat racing season, the 5f Tally Ho Stud EBF Maiden, at the Curragh on March 21.
High Award (ex Tarascon by Tirol) sat behind the leaders in the early stages and grabbed the lead with 100m to go to beat Suntain (Bachelor Duke) by three-quarters of a length with Clondinnery (Choisir), a neck back in third on the slow track.
Trainer Tommy Stack’s son Fozzy described the colt as “tough and professional” and said he would be much better at six or seven furlongs, earmarking the Listed Marble Hill Stakes at the same track as his next assignment before a probable trip to Ascot.
The 425,000 guineas weanling was bred by the trainer’s wife Liz and Jane Rowlinson and is owned by Susan Mangier.
Holy Roman Emperor, a dual Gr.1 winner at two when he was Champion 2YO in France, is a brother to the Australian Listed winner Milanova, their second dam being the champion Northern Dancer mare Fanfreluche (family of Flying Spur and Encosta de Lago). He began stud duties in Ireland and Australia in 2007 and stood the 2009 southern season at $35,750, covering 107 mares.
High Award’s dam Tarascon (ex Breyani by Commanche Run) won the Moyglare Stud Stakes-Gr.1 and Irish 1000 Guineas-Gr.1 and is from the same family as local stakes winners Fravashi, Pure Joy, Snowland, Portillo and Snippetson and to Gr.1 winner and shuttler Myboycharlie (Danetime) and Gr.1 winner and sire Al Hareb (El Gran Senor). Tarascon’s five foals to race are all winners.
