Melbourne, Vic (March 17th, 2010) - With only two days to go the first meeting of the huge Golden Slipper Festival has drawn together great fields for the feature races on Saturday the  Group I Ranvet Stakes and Coolmore Classic at Rosehill.

The Ranvet Stakes (registered name Rawson Stakes), his the four-time group one winner Theseo (ex Ozone Sand by L’Enjoleur) lining up for a second win in the weight-for-age event.

It’s not going to be easy for the chest son of Danewin as Bart Cummings is backing up the Group I Australian Cup placegetter Moatize (Danehill Dancer - Shezabeel by Zabeel) along with last seasons Australian Derby winner Roman Emperor (Montjeu - Gussy Godiva by Last Tycoon).  While, last seasons Australian Oaks winner, Daffodil (No Excuse Needed - Spring by O’Reilly) returns to NSW after a fruitless Melbourne Cup preparation last spring.

The Ranvet is generally won by a very good animal with past winners including Super Impose (1991), Veandercross (1993), Tie the Knot (2000 & 2001), Universal Prince (2002), Grand Armee (2005) and Tuesday Joy (2008).

The Group One Coolmore Classic (registered name TAD Kennedy Stakes) generally serves as an important precursor to the rich AJC Doncaster Hcp (1600m) and it always attracts the best fillies and mares in training throughout Australasia.

Run over 1500m, the Coolmore Classic, with prizemoney of $600,000, is the richest race on the opening day of  the Golden Slipper Festival.

Typhoon Tracy claimed the event in 2009 and her trainer, Peter Moody, is lining up
Set for Fame (Reset - Northpoint by Dehere) a week after her runners-up effort in the VRC Australian Guineas.   While the Group I winners, Allez Wonder (Redoute’s Choice - Luna Tudor, by Military Plume ) and Neroli (Viscount - Dalquarren, by Canny Lad) will ensure the contest is another tough one.

A must attend event, for all racing fans, the Golden Slipper Festival has something for everyone from the best horses, jockeys and trainers to fashion, food, wine and music to be enjoyed.
