Melbourne, Vic (March 31st, 2010) -  The Chairmen of the Melbourne Racing Club and the Mornington Racing Club have  announced that their respective Committees had endorsed a joint working party recommendation that the two Clubs merge, effective 1 August 2010.
Melbourne Racing Club Chairman, Mr Peter Young said “The proposed merger follows an extensive due diligence exercise undertaken over the past six months and the merger will result in a powerful racing entity with diverse operations that will provide additional benefits to Members and stakeholders.”

Mornington Racing Club Chairman, Mr Rod Fenwick said “The proposed merger will ensure that the Mornington Racing Club will maintain its identity and strong local presence, whilst the scale of the merged entity will bring to our members and stakeholders at Mornington a standard of racing and facilities that we otherwise could not have achieved.”

“The merged entity will create the strongest Racing Club in Australia that will deliver Metropolitan racing and significantly improved facilities and members benefits to the Mornington Peninsula and in doing so, elevate the Mornington Racing Club to the premier status of a City Club”.

Mr Fenwick added Racing Victoria Limited Chief Executive Officer, Rob Hines, offered his support for the proposed merger indicating that such an association will provide many important benefits to the industry.

“RVL is very supportive of the proposed merger between the Melbourne and Mornington Racing Clubs and we commend both Clubs for their foresight and initiative,” Hines said.

“This merger can only be positive for the Victorian racing industry delivering improved outcomes for Members, participants and punters.”

Both Clubs will now put the proposition to respective Club Members for their decision at Special General Meetings to be convened in May/June.
