The outstanding form from the Magic Millions 3YO Trophy in January came to the fore again on Thursday when quality colt Latin News won the $151,500 listed Gosford Guineas (1200m).A member of the Bart Cummings stable, Latin News was racing for the first time since running a 2-3/4 length fourth in the $1 million feature behind Graceful Anna.
Tallow who ran second in the race has subsequently won at group level at Flemington, while Shoot Out, who ran unplaced, won the AJC Derby.
A colt by Hussonet, Latin News has trialled once leading up to the feature and he ran an eye catching second under regular rider Blake Shinn.
Shinn had the promising young galloper in second last place during the early and middle stages before coming with a well timed run in the straight.
At the post Latin News (ex Email me) held a full length margin over Flowerchild, who raced just off the speed throughout. Rothesay made ground from the back of the field to finish third, another short half head back.
The outsider of the field Verballed finished a close up fourth after a bold run from the front.
Already the winner of over $230,000 in just six starts, Latin News was purchased by Cummings for $180,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
The exciting prospect was bred and sold by Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud.
Latin News gave the Arrowfield based Hussonet his 71st individual stakes winner. The chestnut son of Mr Prospector and Sacahuista (by Raja Baba) is only open to breeders for foal shares this spring and is the sole winner to date for the Sydney and Brisbane winning Danehill mare Email Me, a three quarter-sister to stakes winning sire Springsteen, from a group performed Sir Tristram sister to Marauding.
