The Fernhill Handicap opened the Doncaster card at Randwick last Saturday and Bart Cummings stepped out Kudakulari in the Listed event over a mile and the colt duly broke his maiden in the best possible way by collecting some black type.

By the WS Cox Plate and AJC Spring Champion Stakes winner, SavabeelKudakulari was having just his third raceday start, to notch his earnings past $70,000.

Selected by Cummings out of the 2009 NZ Bloodstock Karaka sale for $140,000 from the draft of Little Avondale Stud, Kudakulari is built in the mould of a stayer in the making, thus, the juvenile stakes victory would be seen as a bonus by his connections.

The colt now heads to this Saturday’s Group 1 Champagne Stakes over 1600m at the track if he pulls up well.

The win by Kudakulari gave Savabeel his fourth individual stakes winner for the Waikato Stud based son of Zabeel.

Out of the lightly raced Oenotria (by O’Reilly), a half-sister to stakes placegetter Tell the Court (by Pompeii Court), Kudakulari was the second black type earner for the mare, adding to the family’s strong black type history.   As the grandam, Dalmator (by Western Symphony) is the grandam of the dual Group I winner, Dorabella (by Postponed), descending from the VRC Wakeful Stakes winner, Our Lafite (Sovereign Edition).
