CLOSE inbreeding to Mr. Prospector has produced another good horse in Drenalin, the James Lyons (Deagon) trained and part owned 4-year-old Monashee Mountain gelding who made it seven wins from 15 outings when successful in the $175,000 Prime Minister’s Cup (1300m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Got at the Willowbend stud at Beaudesert, Drenalin is by one of the best credentialled successful sires standing in Queensland, the fleetfooted American bred Ireland performer Monashee Mountain, a son of Danzig and a Mr. Prospector dual Group 1 winner and an American Broodmare of the year, Prospector’s Delight.

Maternally Drenalin is from Gee I Jane, a smart race filly by Clang, a good winner getter by the prolific Mr. Prospector sire Bellotto. Also sire of Calaway Gal, a Golden Slipper winner, and Clangalang, a winner of the AJC Derby and Epsom Handicap and an emerging quality sire at Eliza Park in Victoria, Clang is a resident at Willowbend, a stud that shuttled Monashee Mountain out for the six years 2001-06.

The Monashee Mountain result to date has been over 150 winners (in Australia - 352 worldwide) headed by Drenalin, La Montagna (million dollar earner; seven wins included QTC Stradbroke), Mount Verde (six wins, STC Maurice McCarten Stakes), Cherry Creek (eight wins up to a Listed event in New Zealand), Sweet As (7 wins), Sir Monashee (6), Monashee Dancer (8), Patties Mate (7), Momentously (6), Mowhawk (6), Monaseeci (6) and Larrikin Joe (10), too mention few.

Two years ago Brisbane racing leader Kevin Dixon bought Monashee Mountain from his overseas owners and installed him alongside Success Express’s three-quarter brother Greenwood Lake, one of the top two juveniles of his generation in America, and also the Grand Lodge AJC Spring Champion Stakes and Randwick Guineas winning Hotel Grand at the upmarket Racetree stud he established on the former Noble Park stud in the Innisplain valley near Beaudesert.

The now 13-years old Monashee Mountain has had two good books of 91 mares each at Racetree with the first of them including daughters of Danehill, Dehere, Last Tycoon, Thunder Gulch, Clang, Marauding, Show a Heart, Snippets, Encosta de Lago, Grand Lodge, Volksraad, Stranvinsky, Vain, O’Reilly, Lion Hunter, Success Express, Falvelon, Marscay, Sequalo, Rory’s Jester, Scenic, Don’t Say Halo, Sir Tristram and Zeditave. The results will
be two in 2011-12.

Some of the new breed of the Monashee Mountain progeny like Drenalin are inbred to Mr. Prospector, a pattern that is producing more and more winners.

Recent stakes winners in this part of the world doubling up Mr. Prospector have included Once Were Wild (by Johannesburg; won AJC Australian Oaks), Willow Creek (Tale of the Cat, won STC Magic Night Stakes, second AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes), Bright Expectations (More Than Ready, STC Pago Pago Stakes), Returntosender (Elusive City, SAJC Queen of the South Stakes) and Time Keeper (Stravinsky, Group1 Ellerslie Easter Handicap).
