The Queensland Oaks could be on the cards for exciting filly Femina Fashion following her impressive on speed win in Saturday’s $125,000 listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m).
Prepared at the track by Trevor Whittington, Femina Fashion has always been touted as an Oaks filly, but those plans were in disarray when she was stung by a wasp last month.

Whittington said the filly missed a week’s work and decided not to lodge an entry for the Queensland Oaks.  “She’ll head to the Doomben Roses now and if she happens to win that we’ll probably pay the late entry (for the Oaks),” he told Greg Irvine.

“Early on I always thought she was an Oaks style filly, but after her run at Doomben two runs back she was stung by a wasp and we didn’t enter her for the Oaks.”

With Brisbane senior rider Shane Scriven in the saddle, Femina Fashion showed plenty of fight in the straight to hold out Marheta (Al Maher - Geeta by Generous), who had a tough run being posted deep the entire trip, and win by a length-and-three-quarters.

While Status Quo (Lonhro - Step by Grand Lodge) was another 2-3/4 lengths away in third.

A graduate of leading Queensland thoroughbred nursery Racetree, Femina Fashion was purchased by senior part owner Judy McCallum for just $35,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.  As it stands she has already earned more than $140,000 and is a valuable broodmare prospect for the future.

Femina Fashion is the only runner to date for her dam So Tempted - a beautifully bred, city winning daughter of Jeune.

So Tempted, who won over 1250 metres, is a full sister to the former glamour filly Lolita Star - a winner of three races including the Wakeful Stakes and earner of over $300,000.   Lolita Star, has a  bay weanling colt by Fastnet Rock, catalogued for sale at this month’s Magic Millions National Weanling sale at the Gold Coast and is lot 301.

Shamardal (ex Helsinki by Machiavellian), an outstanding racehorse in his day is by Giant’s Causeway, has enjoyed recent success in Australia with his stakes winning progeny including Faint Perfume, Shamoline Warrior and Happy Hippy.     Breeders who had mares booked to be covered by him last season and missed out when he wasn’t able to complete his covering duties due to an injured wither will be happy to see he’s returning to Kelvinside this spring where his fee has been listed as $66,000 (inc gst).
