Coolmore Stud’s young Danehill stallion, Fastnet Rock, is having a season to remember along with three individual group one winners, on Saturday, in Queensland he chalked up stakes winner number 10 when Rothesay stamped his quality under weight for age conditions to win the Lord Mayor’s Cup.
A few hours earlier, the Group 3 Lyndhurst Stud Fred Best Classic (registered name: BTC Classic) had gone to another son of his, Stryker.

Debbie Kepitis, daughter of Bob Ingham, kisses Stryker.
Ridden by Jim Cassidy, Stryker overcame a bad barrier to settle midfield, before he produced a big finish to charge home and beat Happy Hippy (Shamardal - Springburn by Soviet Lad) and Graceful Anna (Canny Lad - Lamellar by Grand Lodge) in the Group 3 BTC Classic (1350m).
The win was Stryker’s second, with both of them coming in black-type events, after the colt had broken his maiden in the Listed Heritage Stakes at Rosehill last spring.
An expensive yearling, his owner’ Bob Ingham had paid $600,000 for him at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, when they spotted him in the draft of Segenhoe Stud.
The third foal of the Woodman mare Laetitia, who has had three foals to race and all are winners, including the stakes-placed Seeking Attention (by Exceed and Excel), Stryker is her first stakes-winner.
Less than two hours later, Fastnet Rock, chalked up his tenth stakes winner when Rothesay won the Listed BTC Lord Mayor’s Cup (1600m) by more than two lengths.

Rothesay
Rothesay, a three-year-old, he treated his older rivals with contempt when defeating six-year-old Our Lukas (Generous - Parfore by Gold Brose) by two-and-a-quarter lengths.
Hadaaf (Danewin - Belle Desire by Kenmare), a seven-year-old, was another length-and-a-quarter away in third.
Rothesay was offered for sale at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling auction when consigned by Philippa Duncan Bloodstock. Failing to meet his reserve of $150,000 the colt was retained by his breeder Mrs Sue Suduk.
Mrs Suduk races him in partnership with Mike Ryan, however, the win was tinged with sadness as Mrs Suduk passed away recently after a long battle with illness.
Rothesay has won three of his six starts and earned the partnership more than $220,000 in prizemoney. He is the second foal and first stakes-winner for minor winner Schiaparelli, a half-sister by Woodman to stakes-winners Causeway Lass (by Giant’s Causeway) and Astute Angel (by Godswalk), and is out of the triple Group 1 winner Canny Lass (by Bletchingly).
As well as being stakes winners by Fastnet Rock, Rothesay and Stryker also share another similarity being out of daughters by Woodman (Mr Prospector - Playmate by Buckpasser).
Fastnet Rock returns to the southern hemisphere this spring after serving his first northern hemisphere book at Coolmore’s property in Ireland where his fee has been set at $137,500 (inc gst).
