When Conquering Journey claimed his second career win at just his third start in the Runaway Kid Hcp (1200m) at Sandown on Wednesday it posted a subtle reminder about the value his sire Good Journey offers at Lindsay Park this spring.
Good Journey, with a Group 1 winner Grand Journey and Group 2 winner Sound Journey to his credit, has a handy type in the shape of Conquering Journey.
A bay three year-old colt, Conquering Journey (ex Allimac by I Conquer) worked hard early at Sandown to hold off the late challenges to score in solid style.
Conquering Journey’s win complimented a win a day earlier of Face Off (ex Garden Flower by Dayjur), by another Lindsay Park based stallion, Face Value, who broke his maiden at Bendigo.
Face Off, a gelding, came from well off the pace in the 1000m maiden to score an emphatic 2-3/4 length victory and in doing so defeated a handy field.
Bred by Mr, Denis O’Brien, who raced Face Value (ex Freckled Face by Polish Patriot) himself, the chestnut is another example of the value out of the Great Southern Sale held by Inglis where he sold for $36,000 to the bid of New Zealand based bloodstock agent Paul Willetts.
Face Value, a Group 3 winner, has covered medium sized books since his retirement and is now in his sixth season at stud.
The young son of Red Ransoms’ statistics suggests he’s going about his new career the right way. Already this season he has 22 individual winners from 52 runners, two of them are juvenile winners, with more than $700,000 in earnings. While his barn mate, Good Journey (ex Chimes of Freedom by Private Account) has clocked up the same number of individual winners, 22, from 49 runners with more than $555,000 in earnings from limited numbers.
The Group 1 winning son of Nureyev has his first crop of weanlings bred at Lindsay Park on the ground and recently some of them were offered at the Inglis Great Southern Sale and a bay/brown colt from Just Pete (by Royal Academy) sold for $30,000.
This spring Good Journey’s fee has been set at $13,200 (inc gst) while Face Value is listed at a very reasonable $5,500 (inc gst).
