News from Doncaster Bloodstock Sales (DBS) that buyers expressed ‘frustration’ during the first day of selling at the DBS Premier Yearling Sale. Strong trade was highlighted with many of yearlings proving difficult to buy.  This in turn returned a set of figures that were on a par with the same session last year.

An average of £27,457 was matched by an aggregate of £5,134,500 this was coupled with a median of £21,000 and a clearance rate of 82%, with four yearlings making more than £100,000.

The joint highest price was achieved by Furnace Mill Stud, who was consigning on behalf of breeders Laundry Cottage Stud selling a full-sister to the Listed placed Mister Hardy for £120,000.   The racy daughter of Kyllachy and Baladonia (by Primo Dominie) had recently received a pedigree update when her half-brother Wootton Bassett (by Iffraaj) won his third race from as many starts at York.  The bay colt has been touted by his trainer as a future group winner and holds an entry in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes which caught the attention of David Redvers before the hammer came down in favour of Dwayne Woods who was bidding on behalf of Eddie Stobart CEO Andrew Tinkler and plans to have the filly in training with Bryan Smart.

Sir Robert Ogden was active throughout the day and his spending was topped by a son of Le Vie Dei Colori who was also bought for £120,000. Offered by Rathbarry Stud, the colt is out of a half sister to the Group 3 winning Eastern Purple.

Two lots made £105,000 including an Elusive Quality half-brother to the Grade 1 winning Careless Jewel who was bought by Hugo Merry for £105,000. Offered by Grove Stud, he was another to catch the attention of Dwayne Woods before Merry made the final bid. Highclere Stud offered a daughter of Oasis Dream from the Group 1 winning family of Lemon Souffle who was knocked down to David Redvers for the same final figure.

Demi O’Byrne has been absent from the DBS buyers sheet for a number of years and his spending included a easy moving son of Dylan Thomas who was offered by Newsells Park Stud. A half-brother to Bunbury Cup winner St Moritz, the colt caught the attention of Gill Richardson and Adrian Nicholl before the hammer came down in favour of the Coolmore representative at £90,000.
