With the European season in full swing the Marketing Manager from Blue Gum Farm, Darryl Sherer reports, there has been a major winner in England with relevance to Astronomer Royal (USA), who recently arrived back in Australia to commence the 2010 season.
The prestigious Solario Stakes (Gr 3) at Sandown was won in good style recently by the Ed Dunlop-trained Native Khan, a son of Azamour and whose dam Viva Maria (Kendor) is currently in foal to Astronomer Royal (USA). Viva Maria is typical of the quality of mare Astronomer Royal has attracted and the emergence of Native Khan will be something to watch as the season continues.

The Solario has been won by the likes of Ravens Pass, Sri Putra and Shakespearean in recent years and the classic progress of Native Khan will only further emphasise the market acceptance of Astronomer Royal.
Astronomer Royal arrived back at the Euroa property last week after completing his quarantine period and looks in magnificent order.
“He has added more bulk and looks fantasic,” Philip Campbell said.
With an outstanding fertility figure of 88.2% in his first-season, Astronomer Royal is clearly as good in the breeding shed as he was on the track.
The Champion 3yo Miler in France and a son of breed-shaper Danzig, Astronomer Royal’s first foals are arriving here in Australia and are getting extremely favourable reports. 12 foals are already on the ground including a colt out of the Sydney group winner Throne Inn and a filly out of the North American Listed winner Treadmill (USA).
At a fee of $8,800 (inc gst) in 2010 the young stallion represents great value.
