Champagne d’Oro proved that her win in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes was no fluke as she posted an impressive four-and-three-quarter-length win in the Grade 1 Test Stakes at Saratoga, New York,  on Saturday.

Jumping quickly, Champagne d’Oro raced on the speed in the 1400m event with Mike Smith in the saddle.  Trained by Eric Guillot for Southern Equine Stable, Champagne d’Oro raced alongside the pacemaker Pica Slew until into the straight then quickened away to easily account for Bonnie Blue Flag and record her second win at the elite level.

A US$210,000 Keeneland September sale yearling, the three-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro  also recorded a runners-up cheque in the Grade 1 Prioress Stakes recently. With four wins and as many placings, Champange d’Oro has only missed picking up a cheque for her owners four times in her 12 race start career.

Bred by Liberation Farm, Champagne d’Oro is out of the stakes-winning Grade 1-placed mare Champagne Glow (Saratoga Six), herself a half-sister to Grade 1 winners Jurado (by Alleged) and Grand Canyon (by Faffiano).

Champagne d’Oro is one of five career Grade 1 winners for Medaglia D’Oro (ex Cappucino Bay by Bailjumper), who is enoying a big year with three winners at the elite level in 2010.

The brown son of El Prado travels to Australia for the first time this spring and will cover mares at a fee of $88,000 (inc gst) at Darley’s Kelvinside property in NSW.
