Darley’s Lonhro was crowned the 2009-2010 Leading Third Crop Sire with his progeny earning more than $7.4million which was enough to see him finish in third spot on the ‘Leading Sires of the Season’ table.
An outstanding result for the son of Octagonal and with the new season just days old he has kicked off the new season on a bright note, when his daughter Obsequious beat the colts in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on Saturday.
The brown filly was having her first run since finishing out of the money in the Group I Golden Slipper in April and she jumped well from an inside barrier. Travelling on the speed alongside the short priced race favourite, Solar Charged (Charge Forward - Soul Singer by Danehill), Obsequious strode away to claim her second career and most important win at just her fifth start.
Returning from an 18-week spell, the Peter Snowden-trained filly recorded an impressive barrier trial win a few weeks earlier at Rosehill, suggesting that she was capable of a bold first up performance.

Ridden by, Tim Clark, the brown filly wore the famous maroon and white colours of Sheikh Mohammed and recorded her debut stakes win in solid fashion.
Bred by Woodlands Stud she is the first foal out of the winning Commands mare Sycophant, is the families first stakes winner in four generations, and is Lonhro’s 16th stakes winner.
Obsequious is now likely to head towards the Princess Series in New South Wales with the Group 3 Silver Shadow Stakes her likely target.
Expected to cover an exceptional line of mares this season including triple Group 1 Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva, Lonhro will stand at Darley’s Kelvinside property this spring at a fee of $88,000 (inc GST).
