The Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) has launched a new initiative exclusively for members of the club at its Memsie Stakes meeting, on Saturday, to promote racehorse ownership when they unveiled the ‘Members Horse Club’.
Developed to offer members more entertainment and interest in racing for their annual membership subscription renewal it gives all members the chance to experience the thrill of ownership for no additional financial outlay.

The scheme will operate under the banner of the ‘MRC Members ‘Horse Club’ where all financial members of the MRC became ‘owners’ of two fillies that the club has leased from Swettenham Stud, run by Adam Sangster in Victoria.
Mick Price and Robert Smerdon were selected by the club to train the fillies.
Haumea, by Encosta de Lago, will be trained by Price and although she is yet to break her maiden after six starts, the filly hails from a family that has produced the Group I winner, Champagne (by Zabeel).
Smerdon will apply the polish to an un-raced filly by Swettenham stallion, Bianconi.
Members of the club will get the opportunity to suggest a name for the filly, and, for those inclined to design a set of colours for both fillies to carry when they appear at the races.
Horse Club members will enjoy all the race day privileges that all owners get to experience, stable and stud tours, tips and website updates on the progress of the fillies. Since there is no additional financial outlay, any prize money that either filly may earn during her career on the track will be returned to the club and go towards future funding of the club.
