Aussie Rules switch

Group 1 winner Aussie Rules (Danehill – Last Second, by Alzao) has been acquired by Lanwades Stud and Denford Stud who have joined forces to acquire the Classic-winning son of Danehill stand the 2012 season at Kirsten Rausing’s Lanwades Stud in Newmarket.

Aussie Rules was a top-class performer for Aidan O’Brien, winning the Gr 3 Somerville Tattersalls Stakes at two, and Gr 1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains and Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile at three.

A fee of £5,000 has been set for Aussie Rules, who was originally announced as standing 2012 at Coolmore in Ireland for €5,000.

Aussie Rules is set to end this season as a top five leading European second crop sire by money won thanks to performers such as Group 3 winner Djumama, the Preis der Diana runner-up who was also the champion German two-year-old of 2010, and the unbeaten Italian Group 3-winning juvenile Duck Feet. In all, he is the sire of seven stakes winners from just two crops of racing age.
