Shenzhou Steeds takes Ipswich Cup

Talented galloper Shenzhou Steeds (Ishiguru – Sun City, by Spectacular Love)  showed his affection for Queensland when he notched his second Stakes win in the Listed Ipswich Cup (2150m).

Shenzhou Steeds won the Listed Sunshine Coast Guineas last season before the Mike Moroney-trained gelding outfought Kinnersley (Al Maher – Miss Radiant, by Geiger Counter ) to prevail in Saturday’s $175,000 event.

Moroney purchased Shenzhou Steeds on the recommendation of his new NZ training partner Chad Ormsby. Ormsby rode the four-year-old to win his maiden during his time as a jockey and the effort prompted the rider to laud his praises.

Shenzhou Steeds is one of six individual Stakes winners for the late stallion Ishiguru (Danzig – Strategic Maneuver, by Cryptoclearance).

Ishiguru shuttled between Tweenhills Stud in England and Chequers Stud in New Zealand until his premature death in 2009.
