Coolmore men perform in Hong Kong

Coolmore sires continued their strong form in Hong Kong after the worldwide breeding operation’s past and present residents produced the winners of half of the 10-race card at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Former Coolmore Stud stallion Hawk Wing (Woodman – La Lorgnette, by Val de l’Orne) sired the winner of the South Wall Handicap (1600m) when Cai Bao In (Hawk Wing – Dazzling Park) posted a 1-3/4 length before Antonius Pius (Danzig – Catchascatchcan, by Pursuit Of Love) gelding All Victory (Antonius Pius – River Princess, by Victory Prince) easily won the Carpenter Handicap (1200m).

Coolmore mainstays Danehill Dancer (Danehill – Mira Andonde, by Sharpen Up) and Encosta De Lago (Fairy King – Shoal Creek, by Fairy King) are prominent in the Hong Kong sires’ standings. Danehill Dancer is third on the General Sires’ list while Encosta De Lago sits a place lower.

Antonius Pius on the board in 2YO ranks

Former Coolmore shuttler Antonius Pius (Danzig – Catchascatchcan, by Pursuit Of Love) earned his first two-year-old win of the season when Emperor Of Rome (Antonius Pius – Miss Tee, by Youthful Legs) scored at Tamworth on Monday.

Antonius Pius notched two stakes wins from just eight runners in 2010/11 but took one runner to record his first juvenile success of the season when his son took out the Hygain Romantic Dream Plate (1000m).

Emperor Of Rome’s victory came in the first NSW two-year-old race of the new season. The gelding scored a half-length win over Nikody (Bel Danoro – Polo Lounge, by Defensive Play) in the $12,000 race.

Roman Match (Antonius Pius – Flickering Fire, by Forest Glow) completed a double for Antonius Pius with her success in the Hygain Tracktorque Handicap (1200m).

Antonius Pius now stands at Highlands Farm in South Africa.

Another former Coolmore resident, Lion Heart (Tale Of The Cat – Satin Sunrise, by Mr Leader), also produced a winner at Tamworth when Big Cat Drummer (Lion Heart – Tambourine, by Danzero) took out the Hygain Release Handicap (1400m).
